Cicadashriek had been unable to continue mentoring young Icepaw, and the apprentice needed a new mentor. Murkystar couldn't shake an eerie feeling that crept up her spine as she thought of the tom, maw clenching as she jumped up Jaggedrock. "ShadowClan! Gather in the shadow of Jaggedrock."
Icepaw slowly opened her eyes when she heard Murkystar’s call from the Jaggedrock. She didn’t want to move. Her bones felt stiff. She knew she had to though; it was a Clan meeting and she was an apprentice now. It didn’t always feel that way, with how often Cicadashriek was gone. In fact, she hadn’t seen her mentor in quite a while. Cicadashriek always seemed busy.
She pushed herself up and walked out to the Jaggedrock where she sat down and gazed up at her leader. She still felt miles away, but at least her body was present for this meeting.
Icepaw appeared among the other members of ShadowClan, and Murkystar's breath caught. The apprentice had changed, but what cat hadn't after the last Gathering. She was worried about the young cat... But uncertain of how to approach her. She would have to try to talk to her later, after she had gotten accustomed to her new mentor. Hopefully the mentor she had in mind would do well for the she-cat. "ShadowClan, I'm sure you all have heard about Cicadashriek's inability to continue to train his apprentice by now. It is very unfortunate, and I ask you all to continue to look after him. Icepaw, please step forward." She mewed, calling out to the apprentice. Once she had responded, Murkystrike continued. "Icepaw, your training must continue. With that in mind, I am going to select a new mentor for you. Thalia will be your new mentor. She is an experienced warrior, and I trust that you both will be able to lean on each other and grow together." She mewed before leaping from Jaggedrock to end the ceremony, stepping forward to gently touch her nose to Icepaw's head.
A new…mentor. She knew that Cicadashriek hadn’t been feeling well lately, but she hadn’t realized it would result in a change entirely. She stepped forward dazedly and looked out at the other cats. Her eyes slowly searched over the crowd until she caught sight of Thalia, the cat in question. They hadn’t interacted at all before, and Icepaw wondered vaguely if they would be a good match for mentorship at all.
“Thank you, Murkystar,” she meowed softly when Murkystar had finished her announcement. She didn’t know how to feel, so she kept her words short.
Thalia was surprised to hear her name called as part of any announcement, let alone one of mentorship, but rose to her paws and approached the young apprentice. It wasn't the first time she'd been named as a mentor, but this time she was entrusted with finishing the training another warrior had started, and she could only hope she would do decently well at such a task. If nothing else, she would do her best to support the apprentice in question. "I'll do my best to learn from you, Icepaw," she said simply. "I hope you'll do the same."
