Hawkpaw had decided one thing when he had returned from the gathering with Coyotepaw. He had to become more skilled. That would be difficult with the dead cats.. well not breathing down his neck, but just being so close all the time! So, just on a whim, Hawkpaw decided to leave camp. Partially to see what the cats would do... and because he wanted to do something productive.
Also, he knew he was a little impulsive. This was probably one of those decisions.
At some point, with one of those dead cats tailing him, he reached the tunnels. He wanted to hunt, Hawkpaw never hunted. Maybe he could bring back something for Coyotepaw? Then Goldenstar was sure to make him a warrior! Immediately, he dove in, leaving the dead cat scrambling in his wake to keep eyes on him. It was... actually really funny. He couldn't smell very well because of the death scent that seemed to follow him, but eventually, he was able to catch a whiff of a rabbit.
It was a wonder the rabbit didn't hear him or smell him. Perhaps it was because it was sticking its head out of a hole in the ground, and all it could truly scent was the wind above that blew with harsh gusts. It likely disguised the scrabbling of the dead cat that was watching him through narrowed, yet curious, eyes. With a kick of his legs, he pushed off through the tunnel, yoinking the rabbit down toward him and killing it swiftly. He was Windclan, despite his massive structure. It was kits play for him to smash himself through the tunnel, even if he didn't like it all that much.
With glee, he emerged with a rabbit hanging from his jaws and a smirk at the dead cat who would follow him back to camp. He had caught something! It was great! He would certainly impress Coyotepaw with this... even though he would never let anyone know, not even her, that that would be his intention.
