Blackout [Open]

Maybe I should have gone to the gathering... The tom laid down on his moss bed, unable to completely fall asleep. He barely opened his eyes, staring into the darkness of his solitary den. Though he felt comfortable underground, Fawnsong was still unable to relax enough to fall into dreams.

Stretching his front paws and giving out a long yawn, the ginger tom finally decided to stand and do something to tire himself down. At first, he thought of sorting the herb stocks but there was nothing to organize really. All the herbs were sorted out to his pleasure and the den was mostly clean. Well... I will fetch some extra moss for my bed. Maybe if I sleep on something softer I will finally fall asleep... His scarred appearance emerged from the depths of the medicine cat den and after checking no one was around, his body completely left the den. The camp was more silent than usual due to most of the warriors and apprentices leaving for the Gathering. Better for him, since he didn't really want to be seen by anyone right. Quietly, the tom walked through camp as silently as possible to not disturb his clanmates' sleep. But tonight that would be the least of his worries.

As he approached the camp's walls, the ground under his suddenly got darker. Confused, Fawnsong looked around realizing that it was not only the ground... the whole camp was covered in darkness. The reason behind the strange phenomenon was soon answered when he lifted his head to the sky. A starless sky only decorated by a blood-coloured dark moon. His whole body froze in terror and shock. What in the...? This isn't happening...Where are the stars? Where is Starclan? What happened in the Gathering?! Questions without answers rushed through his mind as his muscles got more rigid with each passing second. The fur on his back was bristling and he unsheathed his claws out of pure instinct. He felt... in danger. "Oh Starclan... what's the meaning of this?" He mewed to himself, finally finding the focus to move his paws and rushed to the entrance of the camp. Concern for his brother, Scorchtalon, flooded him but he was the only authority figure right now in camp. If anyone else saw this... Fawnsong had to do something to calm them now and comfort them in this strange, nightmarish night. The former warrior didn't know what to do. He couldn't leave the camp but he also couldn't stop himself from worrying about his family and the rest of the clan's fate. "Please, Starclan... let them be okay..." He said as he watched the empty moor from the camp's entrance.

The white shape of the kit suddenly made him change his focus. The scarred tom looked down at Whisperkit, hiding his own worries and panic. He couldn't let her worry when Fawnsong wasn't even sure if this was a bad or a good thing. But without the stars... it just left a bitter taste in his mouth. The ginger tom took a deep breath and collected himself, taking a more serene and calm attitude when he finally addressed the kit. "Hey, hey, Whisperkit... Don't worry, I'm here." He purred. He sat down and curled his tail around the small kitten, hoping his natural warmth and purring would calm her down. And hopefully, calm him too... His amber, scarred eyes looked up to the sky and the sight of the red moon made his heart beat faster. He still was a medicine cat in training but... deep inside he knew something important was gone. Fawnsong gulped and mewed: "To be quite frank with you, I'm not certain of what this means... but we will figure it out. I won't let anything bad happen to the clan or you if it is in paws to decide..."

Maybe his words weren't the most comforting ones... but they were the truth. He had no idea what this event could mean... The tom thought of trying to travel to the Moonstone to consult Starclan about this but the travel was gone and he would be leaving Windclan without a medicine cat. And who knew if the rest of the clan was doing well in the Gathering? Maybe something happened there and he had to remain in the clan as a surrogate leader until Goldenstar arrived. Deep inside, he hoped things wouldn't come to that extreme. "We can wait together here for the rest of the clan to come home. Let's make sure they return safely, shall we?"

The tom watched at the horizon, keeping Whisperkit close to him with his tail curled around their body. He remembered his first gathering as a warrior apprentice: the large crowd of cats and warriors, the leaders giving their speech and then all of them leaving when the Moon started to go down. As he recalled his experience, the tom mewed: "It depends on how much the leaders talk but... it is usually right before dawn." His eyes returned back to the starless sky and his worries returned. If this event is because of something during the Gathering... who knows if they would ever go back? The tom truly hoped that wasn't the case... his brother Scorchtalon and Batsong had to be okay. Dovefrost was there, right? If blood was spilt, he knew the Thunderclan medicine cat wouldn't doubt to help a cat indeed, regardless of their clan. "I'm going to wait here for them to arrive. If you feel tired, I will bring you some moss to lay down... or you can use my shoulder to lean your head." The ginger tom laid down, bending his paws enough for them to disappear under his torso. In that way, Whisperkit would be able to reach his shoulder and rest if needed.

Ryekit was watching the exchange of Whisperkit and Fawnsong and decided to join them. He was still a younger kit, but the fact that the stars had been blotted out by the darkness filled him with dread. "Fawnsong, what is going on?" he asked with a trembeling voice. He didn't want his voice to shake, but it came out in a sqeaky high-pitched tone.
