The Hunters

Batsong walked over to the medicine den, it had been a while since Rosepaw and her had been ambushed by a super unlucky double predator encounter on their first hunting trip. Batsong had checked up on her regularly and she seemed to be alright. That comforted her greatly as she would be so upset with herself if her apprentice had gotten too severely hurt.

Poking her head in she looked around her eyes adjusting to the dim light in there before walking all the way in. "Rosepaw?" she called out quietly in case she was still napping to get her strength back...


"W--...would you like t-t...to try hunting again?" she asked adding on tilting her head a little.

she gave a little grin "Hopefully we will be the ones h-hunting this time" she giggled a little joking playfully with a mischievous grin.

"Lets s-s..see what trouble we can get into" she meowed joking a bit

Rosepaw had been more sore from the predator attacks than she expected. Just out of the nursery she had landed in the medicine den, and the days she spent in camp felt like the longest of her life. But she didn't feel sore anymore! Her yellow-orange eyes blinked glowing in the dark at the back of the burrow. Stretching out each of her long legs and rushing up to Batsong, bumping into her mentor with a purr, "YaY!! yes!" She giggled at her mentor's joke with a grin, "Yeah hopefully we'll be the hunters today!" Rosepaw had a matching mischievous grin, "We'll find some trouble somewhere."

It was a soft grey cloudy day out on the moor, the snow slushy. Rosepaw looked at the sky, maybe rain would wash the snow away? She couldn't imagine the world without snow and ice. The frigid wind carried the scent of rabbit, and Rosepaw saw it hiding behind a clump of heather. Her tufted ears turned in its direction to signal to Batsong and she gave her mentor a cautious smile as she slipped down into a hunting crouch. Her ears were pricked, nose twitching with concentration, eyes wide and dark, as she kept her awareness out for predators from any direction including above, her tail hovering still in concentration. She snuck up to the bush and then leapt into a sprint, tearing through the heather and down the slope on the other side after the terrified rabbit. (-7SP)

Rosepaw wasn't watching her paws as she bounded over a low pile of rocks, stepping on the slithery tail of a snake slipping between the cracks. 

She skidded awkwardly to a halt as it tried to twist away, clamping her teeth onto its tail and yanking hard to stun it so it couldn't bite her. Acting quickly, Rosepaw brought her other front paw down on the snake and striking a second time before it could react. It went limp under her paws and she turned to grin at Batsong, "Do you think a snake makes a good snack?"

Batsong watched quietly as Rosepaw crept towards the rabbit holding her breath... She hoped her apprentice would be able to catch it... right at the last second though a snake had to be dealt with.  Rosepaw handled the situation extremely well and before Batsong could even react Rosepaw had the snake taken care off completly! It was limp under her paws and Batsong's eyes widened.

"Hey, g-g..great job handling that, you reacted super well to it!" she purred praising her. She giggled a little "hmm well I guess we will take what we can get during harsh season, but lets see if we can find other stuff too"

She walked along the moor with Rosepaw in search of more opportunities of prey, She spotted a robin a ways away hopping around on the ground.  "hmm a nice red feather to add to our collection?" she winked at Rosepaw as she spoke in a hushed whisper.

She stalked forward towards the bird staying as low to the snowy ground as possible

Once she had gotten close enough she leaped at it!

Batsong missed the bird but was so close, it was inches away from her claws as it flew away just out of reach.  Sighing she gave a sheepish shurg to Rosepaw. "Hrmm oops" she grinned

Rosepaw's chest puffed out a little in pride at Batsong's wide-eyed praise. Her mama, papa, and big brother were skilled warriors of WindClan, their bloodline going back to Windstar herself, and Rosepaw had always felt she had big paws steps to fill. She picked up the snake in her teeth and followed Batsong allow the ridge of the moor.

Her long wispy tail curled in happiness when Batsong spotted the robin, a red feather would be nice. "So close!" Rosepaw breathed as the bird just escaped her mentor's claws. She sprung upwards to try to grasp the escaping robin, hopeful she had inherited Lilymeadow's skill at catching birds. Her paws arced through air as Rosepaw missed completely. "Oops," she agreed with a giggle.

Batsong shrugged with a grin and continued along in the hunt walking next to her apprentice.

So far they had not had the best of luck, but Batsong was determained to catch something this trip, and it was a nice enough day outside, just a little cold but they would be fine if they kept moving to stay warm. She smelled the air and paused. The scent of rabbit was strong and it was close too! Grinning and glancing around she spotted it a ways away, its back was towards them so it had not spotted them at all yet, she immdeietly crouched low to the ground and snuck towards it sliding just over the snowy ground on silent paws as she crept toward her target. Once she was close enough she got her back legs under her and pushed off with them sending herself flying at it!

The rabbit tried to get away but it was too little too late for the little rabbit as Batsong was already upon it. It ended in a moment and Batsong showed Rosepaw her catch holding the prey in her jaws with a slight grin around it.

"H--..hehe... I g-g-got really lucky" she said, her voice muffled from the rabbit in her mouth with the addition of her stutter made the words a bit hard to understand and it sounded really funny actually, tilting her head slightly she giggled at this. For once she didn't feel bad about her stutter, the black molly had gotten very comfortable around Rosepaw.

Rosepaw stopped, one large fluffy paw still raised, and followed her mentor's eyes to the rabbit. Batsong was quick and graceful, the black-furred warrior gliding over the snow and then flying at the rabbit. She turned to Rosepaw, grinning around her catch, her muffled stutter sounding funny, and Rosepaw bumped her shoulder enthusiastically, eyes sparkling in awe while she mewed with a giggle, "Good catch!"

"I'll have to practice to be that graceful!" she said just as her still-too-big paws tripped over nothing, and she wobbled before catching her balance. There were still lots of rabbit scents, and Rosepaw's eyes drifted along the moor to see a rabbit poke its head out of the ground and hop out into the open.

Rosepaw dipped down into a crouch and crept up, trying to copy Batsong's steady smooth movements. She wriggled until her back legs were coiled under her, and then pushed off into a run.

The rabbit was faster, disappearing into another burrow just as she reached for it, and Rosepaw collided with a snowy bank. She huffed in disappointment as she got to her paws and shook out her fur. But her frown turned to a grin as she threw a paw full of snow playfully in Batsong's direction. It sailed past harmlessly, landing with a mushy flop.

OOC: Sorry about the long response time :( I saw Mistpelt was the most recent to post and thought it was from my roll. haha XD

Batsong watched silently as Rosepaw went for another rabbit nearby.  she was so close but unfortunatly the rabbit got away just before Rosepaw could catch it.

Rosepaw threw some mushy snow at her and Batsong couldnt help but to giggle as it floped next to her.  Giggling she smacked her paw down in a big pile of the slush and sent snow flying in all directions hitting Rosepaw but also herself in a powdery poof of snow.  She grinned shaking the very visible white flecks from her black pelt.

She grinned goofily happy that she and her apprentice got along so well.  

She smelled the air and could smell prey nearby she flicked her tail for Rosepaw to do the same, she wanted her apprentice to catch her first peice of prey that would make her so happy.

With a giggle, her mentor sent snow flying in all directions and clumps of slush hit Rosepaw's face as she purred in excitement. Whether she caught anything or not, she and Batsong had fun.

Batsong's tail flicked and Rosepaw stilled to scent the air. "There's still prey around?" she giggled in a whisper with a grin at the churned up snow. "I see one!" she meowed. There was a rabbit sitting dumbly a little way away. It looked slow, too, thought Rosepaw optimistically. She bounded across the snow, closing the distance quickly. Not quick enough. As the rabbit escaped her, Rosepaw panted with exhaustion, and suddenly realising how tired she was flopped down onto the snow. 


Rosepaw tried to catch a rabbit [-7SP] and has no more SP to hunt!
