Reedpaw watched his mother's stance. he realized that she bunched up her hindpaws less than he. that allowed her to crawl forward more easily. looking around, he noticed a small sparrow hopping on a log. he copied his mother's stance, careful not to bunch up his legs too much.

too late, he noticed a blur of a striped pelt at the corner of his vision. on instinct, he leapt at it with claws out, aiming for it. the wild look in it's yellow eyes sent tingles down his spine. "W-what is that?" He gasped as he landed a solid hit on it's ragged pelt.

Another hunting failure-- and, just their luck, one of the many eager predators ran out to snatch the sparrow as well. At least that meant she got to fight. Appledapple unsheathed her claws, shook out her pelt, and ran into battle immediately. She hadn't even taught Reedpaw to spar yet. She needed to make sure he didn't get hurt badly. A strike with her claws drew blood, and the raccoon already looked like it would run away soon.

Appledapple used Front Paw Strike, dealing 10 damage and costing 7 stamina.

Also, since you rolled the predator, you get to control it. On your next post, you get to choose who it attacks. You could also have it choose to flee, since it is at less than half health.

The raccoon snarled as cats barrelled into it. It was just hunting a sparrow! It quickly realised that it was outnumbered and turned, fleeing away from the hostile cats.

Reedpaw panted as he watched the huge creature like lumber off. What was that? He trembled as he stood there in shock. The forest was full of dangers, and he was just wasting Appledapple’s time having her to deal with a useless furball like him. He cast a fearful glance at his furious mother.

Thankfully, the predator ran off once it saw that it was outmatched. However, there was a tinge of annoyance in Appledapple's eyes as she saw it scamper away. Not only was the satisfaction of defeating it denied to her, but it could have been food for the desperate Clan. Oh well. With a sigh, feeling her anger slowly siphon away, she turned back to Reedpaw. "Well, I was hoping to have your first time in battle be a controlled spar," the warrior sighed. "But we're lucky that you didn't get hurt. That was a raccoon-- predators like that are not uncommon around ThunderClan. Usually, you just have to fight them off. It's one of the reasons apprentices should never wander alone." She glanced at him, noticing his fear. "I'm not angry at you, silly. Would you rather go back to camp, or continue hunting? I dislike going back to camp empty-pawed, but I understand if the fight was too much for you."

Reedpaw shook his head. he didn't want his first time out for hunting to be a waste of time. though he was shocked by his mother's reaction. where was that hot-tempered, impatient she? who was this sweet and gentle imposter who had took over his mother? he gave Appledapple a worried look, thinking perhaps she had caught a fever.

he shrugged after some time and hopped off in search of prey again. after some... hopping, the calico tom found a crow perched on a log that had fallen over the dirt path. gathering his strength, Reedpaw leaped and swatted his paws on the sleek black feathers. he dragged the crow down with his weight and had some difficulty giving the killing bite. the crow kept on thrashing it's wings and was almost as large as Reedpaw himself. when he finally killed the crow, he glanced over at Appledapple.
