dappled deers

deerpaw bounded through the snowy pines, enjoying how the moon light lit up areas of her white pelt. Dapplepaw was with her, since it was a hunting assessment for both. turning to the older apprentice, deerpaw was about to say something when something flashed at the corner of her vision. a rat? it looked plump, perhaps it had come from the twoleg place. she hadn't see such fat prey before. excited, she dropped into a crouch.

the apprentice leaped into the air and slammed her paws onto the rats body. while it was still stunned, she gave it a sharp nip to its spine. "That was a lucky catch!" she purred, then added to dapplepaw, "Do you think we're lucky enough to find a nest?"

Dappledpaw kept her ears pricked as she walked around the empty forest. She was finally having her assessment and was paired up with Deerpaw. She heard the small scuffles of a rat's feet and turned to see where it was. Though when she had turned back to check, Deerpaw had already caught it. "It was a good catch," she remarked, "I don't think it's likely we'll find a nest. We'd have to wait for Newleaf." Dappledpaw continued on searching for something to hunt and eventually spotted a small flash of movement in the dead grasses. She lifted her nose to the air and smelt lizard.

She went into a hunter's crouch and slowly crept towards it. She stopped just at the edge of the grasses and waited for the perfect moment to strike. She pounced forward, but at the last second the lizard darted away. Dappledpaw was left landing on pine needles, and she turned back to search for something else.

Dappledpaw was unsuccessful in catching a lizard, costing 7 SP!

Deerpaw flicked her ear as she watched Dappledpaw miss the lizard by a whisker length. it was such a pity. "What about over there? I think I heard something!" she called, flicking her tail towards a clump of brambles. she was eager for her friend to catch something as well.
