Time For Some Dappled Fun!

Heatherpetal had decided to give her first apprentice Sunpaw a day off to help other warriors with camp construction, whether it be securing the nursery entrance with more protective brambles or collecting moss to restock the supply in the medicine den. This way she would be able to focus her attention on teaching Dappledpaw how to hunt and fight in the sandy hollow. Once he learned the basics, she would begin taking both young toms out to work on their training simultaneously. Sunpaw was an incredibly well-behaved young cat, so she didn't need to worry about him making the task of dividing attention between her two apprentices overwhelming. This was another reason why she wanted to spend some one-on-one time with Dappledpaw, so she could get to know him better.

She approached the apprentices' den and poked her head inside to call out for the newly named apprentice. "Dappledpaw, it's time to wake up. Today starts your very first day of training."

(OOC: Considering you already have cats with mentors, I need to know if you already know how to hunt and fight using the hunting and battling systems, respectively.)

Dappledpaw wasn’t used to sleeping in the apprentice den, but it was so much nicer when all his siblings were together. He had hated being the only one stuck in the nursery, but now he wasn’t alone. As a result of only getting his name yesterday, he was already wide awake, but simply pretending to sleep. His eyes were closed, yes, but they snapped open as soon as he heard Heatherpetal’s voice. He scrambled as quickly as he could to his paws and bolted out to meet his mentor. He stopped to lick his fur, which had become a tangled mess. He returned his green gaze to the she-cat.”I’m here, Heatherpetal! Ready to start!” he called, shuffling his giant paws around on the ground. He was ready to train and learn how to be a strong, able warrior, and he wasn’t going to let anything hold him back.

Heatherpetal purred in amusement. "Great! In that case, let's head over to the sandy hollow. I want to teach you the basics of fighting first. That way if we end up running into any hungry predators during our hunting lesson you'll be prepared for battle." Of course that wasn't the only reason why she wanted to start him off with battle training. As a matter of fact, it was just an excuse she came up with on the fly. Tensions between ThunderClan and RiverClan were still very thick, and she knew every cat in the Clan needed to be prepared for another battle at any given moment, whether they would be chosen to join the battle patrol or not.

The young warrior slipped out of the gorse tunnel protecting the camp and bounded up the ravine with ease, and waited at the top for Dappledpaw to join her. She had struggled up this ravine many times as an apprentice, and she knew Sunpaw had had a bit of trouble climbing up its steep surface as well.

Dappledpaw gave an excited flick of his tail. He wanted to learn how to fight well. Maybe he could even beat his siblings one day! He scrambled up the ravine after Heatherpetal, losing his balance on his oversized paws and falling on his stomach, sliding back to the bottom. He wouldn’t let that stop him, though! He got to his paws as swiftly as he could and bounced back up the steep surface, using his claws to keep his grip. Panting, he finally made it to the top.

Heatherpetal's whiskers twitched as she tried to hold back an amused purr at his stumbling. Once he reached the top, she smiled. "Well done. Let's continue on." She led the way into the forest, and it didn't take long for them to reach the sandy hollow. There she approached a large tree with many claw marks and scars on its trunk, patches of bark torn free from it and still scattered in the snow. "This is where my own mentor taught me how to fight. I'll go through a couple moves with you, then we can begin hunting."
