Mistyfalcon led the way out of camp, tail flicking as the patrol headed towards the deep marshes. Not really his favorite area, but he knew from experience with Rookfire that the area was good for finding herbs, and so that was where they would head, uncomfortable and wet or not. With leafbare fast approaching, it was best to gather what they could sooner rather than later.
Basilpaw had shown them what she was running low on and what was needed, though identifying herbs out in the wild was a different beast than identifying the cut and dried herbs stored in the medicine den. The night sky was cloudy and promised rain, with any luck it would hold off until they were away from the deep marshes and back in their nests for the morning.
Mistyfalcon said little, simply turned to scan the area in hopes of finding herbs... Or prey.

Murkystrike greeted her family with a wave of her tail and a small smile, following Mistyfalcon as he led them towards the deepest parts of the marsh. It was a great place for herbs, but also a dangerous one... As they maneuvered around the rocks and trees, Murkystrike brushed against a bush and pulled away to find her long fur coated in cobwebs. She hissed in brief annoyance, about to swipe it away, but paused. Basilpaw had needed cobwebs, hadn't she? She turned slowly towards her daughter, a smile forming on her face as she showed her side to the medicine cat apprentice. "Will these work for you?" She mewed with a light laugh.

Basilpaw bounced alongside her father as the whole family ventured from camp, excited to be sharing this part of her life with them. She'd already shown them the herbs and supplies she needed and outlined the general places to find them, but it would still be a bit of a challenge to find everything. Leaf-fall was bringing chillier winds by the day, and many mornings woke with frost already coating the ground. Herbs would soon start withering and hibernating for the snowfall, so it was important to do as much as they could now. Progress was already being made, it seemed, as Basilpaw laughed at her mother's unintentional cobweb find. "Perfect! You can never have too much cobweb, though maybe not in your fur." Trotting over, she helped unweave the fragile material from Murkystrike's pelt before leaving her to collect the rest, nose and eyes open for some herbs. On the edge of the shallow part of the marsh, she found a healthy clump of watermint. Picking several of the prime leaves, she recalled that they were the best remedy for bellyaches.

The chilly air nipped at his nose and brushed his fur, but he knew it would get him ready for leaf-bare, so he welcomed it. Loudnose kept quite warm anyways, what with his warm youth and constant bouncy movement. The tabby padded alongside his family, keeping curious eyes out for the plants Basilpaw asked for. Even though he ducked his nose under every shrub and rock, he had yet to find anything of use. The tabby was fine with this, there was still plenty of the night left.
Just as Murkystrike found cobwebs, he finally spotted something they needed. Loudnose ran towards the bush with bright yellow flowers, kicking up water behind him. He paused to bring his nose close to the petals, breathing in their cheer. Holding his teeth around the ragwort leaves, the tom also took one of the yellow pretties before turning back.
He ran back to the patrol, playfully plunging his paws into the water one more time, effectively sending the splash towards his family. Loudnose shook the water out of his underbelly, happily purring as he gave the leaves to Basilpaw.

Mistyfalcon continued to search, and it wasn't long before he managed to pick up a scent in the marshy area. He followed it, coming to a stop in front of some of the herbs that Basilpaw had mentioned. The horsetail was the only thing on the list he was really familiar with other than cobwebs, but he knew it was useful and Basilpaw had mentioned it earlier. Carefully, he picked off several of the long stems.
Mistyfalcon turned, searching for Basilpaw's mottled pelt. She was easy to find, and... Murkystrike, covered in cobwebs. He coughed, trying (and failing) to hide a laugh. "Need help, Murkystrike?" He asked, whiskers twitching as he padded over to them. Loudnose beat him there, playfully splashing a bit of water at his sister.
"I found these, Basilpaw." He mewed, offering the plants to her with a small smile.

Murkystrike gratefully purred as her daughter helped unweave the cobwebs from her pelt, raising her gaze to Mistyfalcon as she heard his poorly disguised laugh. She grinned, brushing against his shoulder gently as he joined them, leaving some hanging strands of cobweb behind. "Perfect, now we match!" She purred, brushing her tail over Loudnose's back as he splashed water at them all. Her heart longed for the rest of their kits to be here as well, joining in the fun, but she was grateful for this moment with the family that remained. Her heart full, she turned to keep looking, some small strands of cobweb still glinting on her back. Carefully, she poked her head into the bush she had found the cobwebs, hoping that maybe there was something in there. There was nothing to be seen but even more cobwebs, so she gingerly stuck her paw into the bush and wrapped the delicate webs around it, hobbling back out of the bush and placing them next to the others. "There, Basilpaw, that should take care of your cobweb stores for a while." She purred, cleaning the ones that clung to her paw off and placing them with the rest.
