Driftkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Bloodstrike stretched luxuriously that morning when he woke up in the warrior's den. He'd finally decided on an apprentice for Driftkit and made his way to the tree where Tallbranch was located. He climbed up the bark with expert ease despite his massive bulk and settled upon Tallbranch. "Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the Tallbranch for a clan meeting!" He called out to his clan just as they were stirring to get ready for the day. After this ceremony he would organize patrols.

Driftkit couldn't stop thinking about the talk he had with Newtspring. His apprentice ceremony was quickly approaching, so every day the fluffy kit waited eagerly for that call from Bloodstrike. Today seemed to be the day.

At the ceremonial words, Driftkit rolled out of his nest and padded on heavy paws over to the Tallbranch where the deputy was sitting. His face was nothing more than a lazy smile, but his eyes betrayed his excitement, glittering in the sunlight. He was still very drowsy, however, and the thought that ran through his head ended up coming out of his maw instead.

"Wow...Bloodstrike's real scary up close..." he mumbled, blinking up at the huge tom as he waited for his next words.

Bloodstrike waited for the clan to gather, especially the two he was waiting on specifically. Driftkit mumbled, and a combination of hearing it as well as reading the kit's lips he put together what was said. He chuckled at the kit. I'm even more scary in a fight... But that was a conversation for another day. "Driftkit step forward. You have reached the age of six moons and it is time for you to become an apprentice. From today until the day you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Driftpaw. Newtspring will be your mentor. My son is a fierce and loyal warrior of Skyclan. He will teach you well."

He gave Newtspring an encouraging nod before he concluded the meeting. Now to let the apprentice and the mentor greet eachother. He still had to organize patrols for the day.

Driftkit perked up, heat flushing to his cheeks as he realized Bloodstrike heard him. Nearly stumbling over his large paws, he stood up and stepped forward. A wide smile reached his face now as the ceremonial words were spoken; once the ceremony concluded, the newly-named Driftpaw turned over his shoulder to find Newtspring.

"Newt, look, 'm an apprentice now...!"

Newtspring had been stretched out outside the warrior's den, enjoying what warmth the weak sun provided. He watched with lazy eyes as his father mounted the Tallbranch, yawning as he prepared to tune out of yet another ceremony. But then Driftkit ambled forward, and the tom sat half-upright, ears angling towards the Tallbranch to listen a little closer. Stars, he grew up fast... the mottled tabby thought idly, ready to cheer for the little tom and whoever his new mentor was. But then his name was called, and Newtspring clambered to his paws to meet his apprentice halfway. "Told ya I'd be your mentor, Drifty. Lookin' forward to it." The warrior purred, pressing his nose to Driftpaw's. And glad SkyClan trusts me again.
