Cicadakit's Apprentice Ceremony

"ShadowClan! Gather in the shadow of Jaggedrock." Murkystrike's mew echoed over the camp, summoning the clan to group under her. She stood on the edge of Jaggedrock, surveying the quickly growing crowd of her clanmates as they responded to her summons, but her eyes kept trailing towards the nursery. Soon, a young cat would leave the nursery, no longer a kit, but an apprentice of ShadowClan. Her tail tip twitched slightly as she waited, a worm of worry in her belly. She had thought long and hard about who would mentor the young cat.... She only hoped that it wasn't a mistake.

Cicadakit instantly perked up at the sound of Murkystrike's call, hopping to his paws. There was no doubt in his mind that this ceremony was for him. He was ready! He had been ready for six moons! However, now he was officially old enough that others recognized he was fit for apprenticeship. He trotted up towards Jaggedrock, his confidence already clear on his face as he joined the gathering cats around the rock. He couldn't help but start to glance around the slowly growing crowd, wondering which cat would be his mentor as though the deputy had already called his name.

As Cicadakit joined the crowd, Murkystrike smiled as she noted the confident look on his face. Now that a sufficient number had gathered, and the cat that would be honored was present, she lifted her voice once more. "ShadowClan! I've gathered you here today to witness the naming of a new apprentice. Cicadakit, please step forward." The deputy waited patiently for the young cat to do so before continuing. "Cicadakit, you have reached the age of six moons and are ready to become an apprentice. From this day forward, until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Cicadapaw. Burningwing will be your mentor." She mewed, whiskers twitching slightly. Hopefully the warrior's disdain for outsiders would not be trained into the young cat. As she drew the meeting to a close, she waited to watch the interaction between the new mentor and apprentice from afar, curious to how it would go.

Hearing his name from Murkystrike was no surprise to him, but it still got his heart beating a mile a minute. This was it! His chance to truly become better! No amount of chasing leaves and bugs were going to make him a master hunter, nor was playfighting with other kits. Only through apprenticeship could he practice and prove himself better than the rest.

He stepped forward, head and tail held high in pride as he was given his new name and mentor. He could relish this feeling forever, all eyes on him. He was already starting to imagine his warrior ceremony when he truly earned his clanmates' praise rather than just aging into it. However, he had to work one step at a time.

Cicadapaw shifted his gaze over to Burningwing, a prideful smile on his face as he approached to touch noses. He was half tempted to drag the tom out of camp and start training now, but he knew not to start calling shots right after his apprentice ceremony.

IC: Burningwing had padded into the clearing and sat himself calmly underneath the Jagged Rock. The back of his neck still ached from time to time, but thanks to Basilpaw's healing methods, he would be fine and the wound was clean of infection. When his name was called to be a mentor, he blinked in surprise, but it wasn't unwelcome. It was his turn to train an apprentice and instill the true ideology that pure bloods were better than half breeds.

He padded up to his apprentice and touched noses with Cicadapaw. "We'll hunt tonight. I trust you to be well rested and ready." He was also pleased that their pelts were similar colors. He wouldn't have to think outside the box very much with how they would stalk and hide. If he'd been given an apprentice with a pelt like Frostgaze's, it would be a challenge that he wouldn't know how to approach.
