Blue Rivers (Closed)

Scarletpaw's eyes fluttered open when the sunlight began to hit her eyes.  She wanted to sleep in late all of the time.  She was definitely a night person.  With a long sigh, she got up.  It was time to go hunting with another apprentice.  She was pretty sure that his name was Bluepaw.  Even though they shared a den, it had not been for long.  He was a pretty new apprentice.  Even so, she didn't like talking to that many cats, so she generally didn't unless she needed to.  She went by the camp exit.  It was pretty warm outside, but her short fur helped her be more comfortable in this weather.  She knew that she was going to hate Leaf-Bare though.  She waited near the exit, waiting for Bluepaw to be there.

Bluepaw had been up since a little before sunrise, woken up by his empty belly and an intense need to help his Clan. Should apprentices have a warrior with them when leaving camp? Probably, but Bluepaw didn't want to wait around for all of that. He wanted to help out now.

He must have dozed off a little, because when he blinked his eyes open again, Scarletpaw was no longer in her nest. He hurried outside, sitting down next to her and beginning to groom himself in preparation to leave.

"Are you ready?" he asked, excitement bubbling in his voice.

"Yes," she responded.  She didn't like how late that they got started, so she would try to make this a fast trip.  She was mostly quiet as they went out of camp.  This was just her fourth time out of camp and it was still almost just as exciting as the first.

Leaves moved on a low branch of a tree.  Scarletpaw heard them and looked over to see a bird.  Bird wasn't her favorite, but because they had so little food now she would hunt anything.  She slowly walked up to it.  She was small, not great for getting up trees, but good at keeping her hidden.  She didn't know if she could make it, but she leapt up and attempted to get on the branch.  It was a success!  She got on the branch in good time and grabbed the bird with her paws.  She dug her claws into it and the blood gushed out.  It died quickly.  She buried it quickly and then went back over towards Bluepaw.

Scarletpaw tried to catch a bird, using -3SP.  It was successful!

Bluepaw was quiet as well, taking his cue from the short response of his companion. His stomach growled excitedly as she managed to dispatch a bird, and he shook his head to try to focus. This was a hunting patrol, he had to feed the Clan before he could partake in a meal.

"Nice catch," Bluepaw purred, letting his mouth remain open for a moment to let the air pass over his scent glands. He didn't immediately pick up anything, but as he continued prowling forward, he finally picked up the faint scent of a toad. It was somewhat covered up by the smell of dirt, but he finally managed to find it's position.

His crouch was not perfect, and the toad almost slipped through his claws, but he dispatched it at the last moment with a bite. Not much as far as food went, but it was something. He kicked some dirt over it and rejoined Scarletpaw.

Scarletpaw nodded in thanks as the other apprentice complimented her catch.  Trotting around, she began to look for something else to catch.  She saw Bluepaw catch something and was about to compliment his catch in return for what he said to her, when a weird scent caught her nose.  It almost smelled like...

"Weasel!" She yelped, warning Bluepaw.  The weasel than leaped out and grabbed her leg in it's teeth.  She felt much pain.  She attempted to shake it off with her paw, but that only made it hurt worse.  She bit at it a few times, only once managing to hit for a moment, but it continued to stay on and continued to spill her blood more and more.

The weasel used Gripping Bite, dealing 7 in damage and using -15SP.
Scarletpaw used Snap, dealing 6 in damage and using 7SP.

Weasel. Bluepaw's head whipped around, to see the horrific sight of a clearly desperately hungry weasel clinging to Scarletpaw's leg. The tom's fur bristled as he readied himself, and then leapt at the mustelid. Despite clearly also lacking in food, the creature was still a threat with it's sharp teeth and thick fur and skin. And they were both apprentices, Bluepaw without any fighting training yet. His movements were sloppy, but his jump landed him on the creature and his claws made contact.

Bluepaw used Jumping Strike, dealing 4 + 3 = 7 damage due to opponent not focused on him, and using 7 stamina.

Bluepaw went after the creature as well, which gave Scarletpaw a little bit of relief.  They would not have to fight for as long.  This feeling of relief did not last long however.  The sharp teeth of the weasel dug further into her leg.  Scarletpaw hissed slightly to convey her anger, but soon had a just calm expression.  She stood on her hind legs for a moment.  With her other front paw she scratched the weasels face, causing it to loosen it's grip just enough where Scarletpaw was able to flick it off of her paw.  However, when it hit the ground, it looked angrier than ever, with half of it's face covered in blood.

Weasel used the second turn of Gripping Bite, dealing 7 in damage and using -15SP.
Scarletpaw used Front Paw Strike, dealing 6 in damage and using -7SP.

Bluepaw watched in relief as Scarletpaw freed herself from the jaws of the creature. It wasn't done for yet, though, just angry and covered in blood. It was probably getting desperate now, too. Bluepaw snarled, darting forward once more to snap his jaws shut around the weasel's throat. He dropped it's body, feeling the blood rushing in his ears. That had been...exhilarating!

Bluepaw used Snap, dealing 6 damage and costing 7 stamina.

Scarletpaw was relieved to see that the creature was dead.  Now Riverclan had more food and the creature could not hurt them anymore.  "Good job, Bluepaw," she said.  Her wound still stung and the harsh winds did not help to make it any better, but no sign of pain could be seen on her face.  "Are you ready to head back to camp?"
