Beechface yawned, pulling herself to her paws with a tired huff, gaze turning towards the herb stores at the back of the den.
Definitely past due for a trip to the great ridge. She thought, carefully sifting through the piles. Being nest-bound and having clanmates ask pesky questions such as 'Are you sure you should be moving around this much?' and 'Do you need help' was increasingly aggravating the medicine cat, especially when she had better things to do than answer stupid questions. They weren't really better things, but responsibilities were responsibilities, no matter how much Beechface resented them.
"Muddythorn." She called briskly, making out the tom's fluffy pelt in the gloom, "We're looking for herbs, let's go." With that, the medicine cat was stalking from the den. It was better to get this done before the sun could make the day truly unbearable.

The herb supplies were getting very low again, and that only meant one thing. "One second Beechface!" Muddythorn scrambled to his feet out of his nest, where he had been half-asleep and not wanting to get up. However, the health and safety of the clan came first, and with leaf-fall setting in soon, it was undoubtable that the amount of easy-to-find and usable herbs would diminish greatly. He followed his mentor out into the bright sunlight, still blinking the sleep out of his eyes.

Before long the two of them had reached the ridge, where most cats could see the Twolegplace in the distance. Personally, Muddythorn could see a brown, green and grey smudge. It was where they usually went to find herbs, since they were always plentiful here. At once, he got to work, scenting the air for surrounding herbs. He decided to go investigate the rock crevices, hoping that he would find something useful there. Just as he had expected, a few little white flowers caught his eye and soon a familiar scent hit him. Chevril, rare but very helpful. He nipped a few stems and brought them back to Beechface.
"Chevril. Recognised the scent from mum's kitting. Helps bellyache as well right?" Muddythorn himself was surprised at how much information he had retained about the leafy green plant.

The pair made their way to the great ridge, and Beechface set about searching the rocky area for herbs. Muddythorn split from her to do the same thing, and the one-eyed medicine cat nodded to herself. A stronger scent caught her nose, and she padded forward to investigate, finding a shrub with daisy-like flowers. She nipped several stems carefully, setting them down on a flat rock for safekeeping.
It wasn't long before Muddythorn came trotting over, a few stems of chervil in his jaws. "It does." She mewed, offering the fluffy tom a tired smile. "Good."
"And what about these?" She asked, motioning to the herbs she'd set aside as well. Time to test how much he'd learned.
