Prickly Lilies (Closed)

Pricklepaw had been assigned to patrol with… Waterlily. A Clanmate he didn’t know well, but still one he needed to impress. As he waited for the molly at the camp entrance, he quickly went over what he knew about her. Black fur… Bleh. Different colored eyes? Exotic… but not something he wanted to have. Soft spoken- not something he wanted to be. Still… she might have something… hopefully not. He’d just have to show her what he could do at hunting. After all, he was the best hunter out of all the apprentices, and the best fighter too. (Even though he’d never seen the other apprentices fight or hunt.)

As soon as Waterlily approached, Pricklepaw gave her a quick once-over. Hmm. He nodded respectfully to the older molly. “Shall we go, then?” Once out in the forest, Pricklepaw started scanning for prey… something easy enough… so she wouldn’t think he was a show-off… but no injured prey. He was the best hunter in the Clan, after all. A rustling in the nearby undergrowth hit his ears. With a smirk, he turned and dropped into a hunting crouch, making sure his luxurious tail stayed off the ground. A mouse. Hmm. Oh well, he shouldn’t pass up any prey, especially not with a warrior watching.

Maybe it was his luxurious tail waving gently in the breeze, or the confident smirk exposing his sharp fangs, but the mouse scampered off, Pricklepaw’s paws hitting the dust just next to its tail. For a moment, he simply stood there, astounded. Wh- what? A simple mouse evaded him? A mouse!!!???!!! No, no, this couldn’t be true. It had to be Waterlily- maybe she scared it off somehow. There was no way he could miss a mouse. A mouse.

He padded back to Waterlily with head held high. “No prey over that way,” he mewed. Nothing that you could catch. A kit three moons old could catch that mouse. You mouse-brain. Mouse-brain. Fox-dung. His smile became a little strained, but he shook it off, looking around for another piece of prey.

Prickle attempted to catch a mouse costing 3 stamina, catch was unsuccessful.

Waterlily strode out of the warrior's den.  She hissed a moment when the heat of the sun hit her fur after being in the shade of the den.  There were clouds in the sky, but none of them were in front of the sun at that moment, much to Waterlily's dislike.  She sighed.  Today was not the best day to hunt, it was too hot for her and she even though she did not evenhave that long of fur.  Still, as a warrior she needed to go on patrols, but she really could not wait until Leaf-fall.

She knew the apprentice she was meeting today.  Well, not really, but she had heard of him and she went to his apprentice ceremony.  She was happy to go hunting with him and would try to help Pricklepaw if he needed it.

She came up to Pricklepaw.  She smiled kindly and her tail flicked happily.  She nodded back when he nodded to her.  "Sure," she responded.  She watched him try to catch the mouse and when he missed the expression on her face didn't change.  "It's okay.  No one can ever always catch anything they see.  I've missed plenty of things, especially when I was an apprentice."  She said to him truthfully.  "If you want I can help teach you some skills that helped me."  She wasn't one to laugh or make fun of someone for not catching something or anything like that, but she would give them advice if he wanted it.

After he responded, she went to catch her own thing.  A pretty large rabbit hopped a sort of far away from her.  She carefully with quiet pawsteps rushed closer to it, staying low and quiet.  She realized at that moment that catching something might make her look like she was showing off or like she was trying to show Pricklepaw that she was better than him.  So, she leapt off the ground, purposely hitting the ground before the rabbit, to show that she still misses plenty of times as well.  She stood still and watched as it hopped off.  It hurried because it was scared for it's life.

"I miss prey a lot still too," she said with a shy smile.  Her ears stuck straight up, when she heard something coming threw the bush behind her.  She turned around to find herself face to face with a fox.  She swallowed.

The foxes teeth were bared and it wasted no time in attacking.  The foxes snapped hard at her neck, but before it made any contact she jumped out of the way.  She then picked up her paw and slashed at the foxes side, blood started dripping down, but it didn't seem too effective.

The fox used Iron Bite, dealing 17 in damage and using 30SP.
Waterlily used Dodge and Fight, dodging the previous attack (getting +17HP), dealing 5 in damage and using 15SP.

Pricklepaw gave Waterlily’s back a glare. Was she trying to make fun of him? By missing on purpose? He turned away to conceal a snarl. He was the best hunter in the Clan, she had no right to make fun of him. He’d show her- and an opportunity immediately presented itself, as Waterlily walked straight into a fox- what a mouse-brain. Did she use her nose? Still… she was a Clanmate. And this would be a chance to impress a warrior! Maybe she’d tell Minkstar and he’d get made a warrior early! Pricklepaw surged past Waterlily, taking advantage of the fox’s fixation on her. With a battle yowl, he sprang onto the fox’s back, preoccupying it. Hopefully it would focus on him rather than Waterlily- but if his pelt was in danger he would not waste any time in getting up a tree. He dug his claws into the fox’s fur, snarling at it- luckily it wasn’t able to reach him from his position on its back. “While it’s distracted!” He called, holding on for dear life. “Come on, mouse-brain! Wanna get at me? Come on, try it!” He taunted the fox, hoping Waterlily would take advantage of its distraction. He couldn’t hang on here forever, after all. Luckily it wasn’t that big of a fox. Even the best fighter in the Clan couldn’t take on a beast like he’d heard the elders tell of.

Waterlily wasted no time going after the fox again as it was being held down by Pricklepaw.  She snapped at the side of the fox.  Her teeth sunk into it's flesh, making her white teeth red momentarily until she put it back in her mouth and it began to wash away on it's own.  She was very fast doing her attack, but she soon realized that the apprentice couldn't hold on anymore.  So, she stood up on her back paws and hit her front one's down on the foxes head multiple times.

Pricklepaw’s grip began to weaken- an alarming state of affairs. However, Waterlily stunned the fox with a few well-placed blows to the head, and Pricklepaw slid off, sinking his claws into the fox’s side as he did so. The blood got all over his pristine fur. As soon as they finished off this beast he’d have to clean up, but for now, the battle was what mattered. Giving the fox a few more hits for good measure, he backed off. It was recovering from the stun and he’d really rather not mar his pelt. Maybe a few cool-looking scars, but nothing serious. And he couldn’t trust the fox to make a distinction. “I’ll stun it as soon as it recovers,” he mewed quietly, not really caring that he was bossing a warrior around. Well, this warrior had walked straight into a fox. He didn’t have much respect for her after that. “Keep it distracted,” he hissed, circling slowly around, looking for a weak spot. The fox looked bloody (from both Waterlily’s and his attacks, but mostly his), but it was still standing. He’d have to pull off that move Waterlily did, the cool stun one. At least this warrior was good for something.

"Okay," the soft spoken Waterlily agreed to what Pricklepaw said about stunning it after.  She thought that Pricklepaw was... interesting.  He seemed to think quite highly of himself, as Waterlily had observed.  However, that could be a good thing.  Depending on what the circumstances are it could serve the apprentice well.  She didn't have too much time to think about that though, she was in a battle after all.  Waterlily didn't hesitate to slash her claws against the foxes fur repeatedly.  It seemed to be getting fairly weak, much to the she-cat's liking.  Not that Waterlily didn't like fighting, but she wanted to make sure that both her and Pricklepaw (actually she was a lot more concerned for Pricklepaw) got back in one piece.

Pricklepaw had slunk around to the fox’s rear as it recovered from its stun. Now that it was focused on Waterlily, he had the perfect opening. With a silent battle cry, he slammed the fox’s head into the dirt, clawing at its eyes. With claws and teeth, he tore into its face before backing away. He’d done a good one on it, and the blood was pooling on the ground. His pelt was slightly dirty and blood-covered, which was a frustration. As soon as they killed this thing he was going to clean up. “Go in for an attack while it’s stunned!” he hissed at Waterlily, eyes locked on the beast.

Waterlily didn't even wait for Pricklepaw to finish speaking.  She put her jaws around the animals neck and slowly began to sink her teeth in deeper and deeper.  The fox tried to cling on to the last bit of life it had, but quickly fell limp.  She sunk her head down also so it just pressed down on the earth.  She opened her jaw so her teeth slid out of the wounds.  A mixture of bright red blood and pure clear fluid fell from the puncture marks.  Her teeth were now stained red once more, but that would soon wash off as well.

"We should probably get heading back to camp, I'm sure this is plenty.  Unless you want to try to catch some different prey."  She observed that Pricklepaw was sort of small to be carrying a fox back to camp.  "I can bring the fox back."  She told him, holding the fox's scruff and began dragging it on the ground.
