Precious [Open]

Stormbringer had never really expected to have kits, even in her retirement to the Nursery, but when the opportunity presented itself, she wasn't going to turn it down. Everything went fine for the most part.. Until the actually birth.. Only two kits had survived and even then not one without side effects. Fadedkit and Bluekit, her precious little survivors. Fadedkit, her little calico, while blind, proved to be very resilient. Bluekit, didn't have any side effects like his sister, but already proved he was very strong.

Now Fadedkit and Bluekit were old enough to wander a little on their own. Of course not without their mother's supervision, or their other mother's supervision. As long as someone was able to keep an eye on her little ones, she would be content.

Stormbringer sat in her nest, the moss a wonderful resting place, amber eyes on her kits, waiting to see what they would do. Would they want to go out an explore? Did they want to stay inside? It was going to take some getting used to having a blind daughter, but after Yarrowpaw she was sure she could help Fadedkit learn. Bluekit, of course, would be there to help in the process. Maybe the two could learn to rely on each other.

Fadedkit always knew she was different. How couldn’t she, when she lived in a world full to the brim with sound and touch, where others could see?

She wasn’t stupid. She knew she was missing something the other kits had. They talked of the stars, of passing birds, of clouds and the sun, and Fadedkit.. couldn’t join in.

Not that it bothered her. She had things the others didn’t, too.

Fadedkit had a gift.

The beauty of sound and touch surrounded her, filling her life with wonder. Why did she need to see, when she could hear, when she could feel? Her mothers’ were doting, always making sure she stayed safe and sound, giving her opportunity to explore the world as she felt fit. She was so tiny, premature, smaller than the other kits, but her personality was so large it was hard to miss her- little Fadedkit. Ivystar and Stormbringer’s  new daughter.

Turning her unseeing face to her den mother, her spotted nose brushing against Stormbringer’s fur, she lifted herself onto wobbly legs. “Mother?” she asked softly. “May I go outside? I- I want to meet everyone! Can you come with me? I don’t want to get lost.”

Bluekit wasn't sure if he had an advantage in being able to see or if it only made him more wobbly than his sister, as his paws often seemed to trip him up. It was frustrating, and the nursery's soft floors and tightly packed nests didn't make it any easier on him, although it did make for an easy landing when he fell on his face.

His ears pricked up at his sister's words, and his tail shot straight up in excitement. "Me too! I want to go, too." He announced, carefully picking his way to his sister and mother's side.

“Stormbringer?” A hesitant voice called into the nursery. Turtlefur’s head appeared in the entrance shortly after. He smiled sheepishly when he saw the two young kits who had been mewling to be let outside. He looked back to his old mentor. “I just came by to say hi and see the kits, if that’s ok. And to bring you something to eat if you were hungry.” His head disappeared back out the den. When it reappeared, he had a vole gripped in his teeth.

There hadn’t been any fish to catch—not that he could actually get to the river without a pack of dogs trying to rip his fur off. And there wasn’t much else to give the queen, either. Things were getting difficult for RiverClan even with WindClan’s permission to hunt on their land. But he quickly banished the thought from his mind. Stormbringer’s adorable kits were the real point of his visit, and a gentle purr could be heard rumbling from his chest.

Bluekit turned wide blue eyes onto the newcomer. He hadn't seen this cat before, although he bore a similar smell to the other cats he knew. And he had food with him! The blue point sniffed, and had to stop himself from charging away from his sister's side. It smelled good!

"Who're you? I'm Bluekit," he added the second sentence hastily, realizing how rude he would sound otherwise.
