A Strange Kind of Mushroom [open hunting/battle topic]

Kestrel's gaze softened as Wolfblaze accepted his offer to hunt together. His head snapped to look at his father and he shot him an unimpressed look. He wasn't going to allow himself to fall for one of his father's tricks or play along with his games. He'd have to really keep an eye on him. Who knew Minkstar had a sly and mischievous side to him?

"Thanks but no thanks dad." he huffed as his eyes narrowed. There was no real heat behind his words. He knew his dad wasn't going to forcefully go with them but Kestrel knew better than to test his luck. He turned back to Wolfblaze and softly nudged her to a random direction so they could begin. "Let's go before we regret it." he muttered softly with a slight amused tone. StarClan give him strength...

After leading them somewhere close to the group yet far enough for some privacy, Kestrel let his shoulders slump. Thank goodness for some peace. "Got any cravings? I feel like I want either a bird or a squirrel." he said softly as his eyes scanned the surrounding area. Once he spotted a squirrel nearby, the warrior nodded to Wolfblaze and he went for it. He carefully inched up to it and without wasting any more time, pounced. Hopefully this catch would be a success. He was rather hungry.

Thankfully, he caught the critter. The warrior killed it swiftly and returned back to the she-cat. He dropped his catch and smiled. "Your turn. Are you going to eat it or wait to take it back to camp after we find the badger? I'm hungry so I'll eat mine here." he said with a a slight tilt of his head.

Wolfblaze silenced herself for Kestrelswoop's and Minkstar's exchange. It amused her, if she was being honest, that anyone would speak to their leader in such a way, though they were father and son, she supposed it must be a parent thing that she couldn't understand. "Don't worry Minkstar, maybe you can come with us sometime!" She would play along, it was fun after all. Quickly turning, she followed Kestrelswoop away from the rest of the patrol, smiling the whole way.

"I'm gonna get a bird!" Wolfblaze's voice was quiet, but still buzzing with her usual excitement. Bumping Kestrelswoop gently as he went after his own prey, she went after hers. She had seen one fly from a tree to the ground, feeding itself no doubt. The early bird got the worm, but the early cat would get the bird! Or so she hoped. It was early and she really wanted to eat. Stalking toward the bird, Wolfblaze diligently ensured her paws weren't stepping on any sticks. That had foiled too many hunts in the past.

When the bird suddenly flew away, Wolfblaze was perplexed, she had been sure she was downwind! Then a hissing noise, unlike a cat, could be heard. "Foxdung..." Her head turned to see a badger within view, and it looked mad. Her own fur floofed out to its fullest extent, suddenly becoming a gray ball. There was no getting out of this, so she did what she would usually do. Something impulsive. Wolfblaze ran straight toward the angry badger, throwing herself onto its back. Her claws dug in, but the badger wasn't happy, and shook her off quickly. Its thick fur didn't make for easy holding. With all the force it could muster, it whacked a paw into her, sending Wolfblaze flying back. She landed with a thud, dazed. That thing could really pack a hit. Everything hurt for a moment before she was able to stagger to her paws once more. "Kestrel! Go get the rest of the patrol! Guess that badger came to us!" The score marks of the large paw that whacked her stung like the dark-forest itself was there, but the pain was irrelevant. Now she was angry.
