July Medicine Cat Meeting - 2021

It was unsettling to say the least. Even being in his own territory at the start was a little off.. The stillness of the day throwing him for a loop.. and then the open territory of Windclan as the night started to claim the day? He didn't like it not one bit. And it didn't seem to ease up as he reached Mothermouth. No one else was here yet, so he was forced to sit in the silent still night air, waiting for the others to come.

Beechface curled into her nest for the night with an exhausted yawn. The days had been busy, and she hadn't had a moment to rest her paws at all. She couldn't leave the clan in the state they were in, and truthfully, even if she could, she would not have risked travelling with only Muddythorn for company, nor would she have taken warriors that needed rest and time to heal as much as she did.

Beechface was out cold the second she closed her eyes. She blinked 'awake' to a forest shrouded in darkness, cold starlight glittering overhead. Beechface made it to her paws, tail flicking in uneasy impatience. She knew full well that even without making the journey to highstones, dreaming of Starclan would leave her feeling like she hadn't slept much at all. She wanted to get this over with and wake up. There was endless work to be done, and it wouldn't be done by dreaming of the ancestors.

Beechface waited, restless impatience written across her face. And waited.

Starclan sure was taking their sweet time tonight. It would probably just be more of the same cryptic foxdung, anyways. They didn't care about what Skyclan had gone through, they existed to merely watch them suffer.

A shape slowly materialized several fox-lengths in front of Beechface, pelt glittering with stars. About time, the medicine cat thought sourly.

"Reevaluate your values. You can't pick and choose what parts of the code to follow and which to not. Murder is murder, and maiming is maiming. Recognize your faults before scrutinizing others." The Starclanner's voice was raspy, yet commanded Beechface's full attention. The medicine cat balked, eyes narrowing in disbelief at the words the dead cat spoke, tail lashing back and forth. Of course Starclan would rather lecture and be judgmental than offer actual help or advice. Dawnhawk had murdered. Dawnhawk had maimed. Beechface had taken one of Lilacstar's lives (a pity it hadn't been more) out of self-defense. Would Windclan be receiving the same message tonight? Would Riverclan, for sticking their nose where it had no business being? Windclan had sheltered a murderer, a kit murderer. But they dared lecture Beechface- Skyclan, instead? Indignation flashed in the medicine cat's eyes, but she found herself unable to speak. The Starclanner stared at her, expression cold and unreadable, and Beechface felt her hackles rise defensively. She wanted to snap at the Starclanner. Tell the trumped-up ghost cat that they had no right to judge when she had only acted in self-defense. Windclan and Riverclan were just as guilty of picking and choosing what rules of the code to follow, and she would do whatever it took to protect her clan and herself. Still, she could not seem to make her lips move and form the words. The medicine cat's claws sank into the ground in frustration.

The Starclanner slowly faded from view after a moment, and Beechface hissed out a breath. Well, at least the message had been straight-forward for once... Alarmingly straight-forward. It did very little to dampen her unease or frustration, even so. They had never warned Skyclan of anything; not the Asylum, not Dawnhawk's betrayal, not his murders. They hadn't warned her that he was hiding in another clan until it had been too late. And they now wanted to lecture her about breaking the code? It was hypocritical. Beyond hypocritical. In the real world, the medicine cat tossed and turned in her nest, ears flat against her skull.

Cloverpaw squirmed, trying to turn over to be more comfortable, but her stiff joints and still-fresh wounds refused to bend the way she wanted. With a sigh of pain and defeat, she settled as she lay, looking over towards Smallbean. She wanted desperately to go home, to go to Highstones with Dennis, to do anything other than be stuck in WindClan. Sleep was a long time coming, but eventually she managed to close her eyes, hoping someone from StarClan would speak to her here.

Rookfire made the trek to Highstones. This time, he could only see Dovefrost near him, probably because the recent SkyClan-WindClan war that had happened meant that many medicine cats needed to take care of their injured clanmates. Greeting Dovefrost, he padded into Mothermouth. After weaving through the tunnels, he stepped into the cavern with the Moonstone. Touching his nose to the stone, he wondered what StarClan would choose to tell him. It didn't take him that long to fall asleep.

Rookfire's eyes opened to see a StarClan cat right in front of him. It was a jet-black tom, stars sprinkled in his pelt just like the rest. Rookfire gazed at the StarClan cat, who gazed back at the black tuxedo.

Eventually, the StarClan cat opened his mouth. "You know your threat, but not the source. Beware of what could come of it if the origin is not discovered and stopped."

Reality began warping, something that he could tell would cause him to jolt awake.

Rookfire jolted awake, something that surprised nobody. (Well, it definitely didn't surprise him.) Now, he needed to think about what the prophecy was even talking about. You know your threat... is it Tavora and her kits? Wait, we don't know the source... would that be a cat like Galloway or Vea, or would it be something else? Would the threat be murder, or something worse, like the destruction of ShadowClan? He didn't know for sure, but it would be definitely be something that would be dangerous to leave alone. The main problem was that he didn't know what it even meant.

Dennis limped up the path to Highstones, stumbling on pebbles every 5 or so steps. He wasn't expecting much conversation tonight, not with half the medicine cats gone and the only cat he actually talked to being too injured to come with him. He nodded briskly at the two other cats there before descending into the tunnel, sighing wearily once he reached the Moonstone. At least he'd get to rest here, he supposed. Physically, anyway. He pressed his nose against the stone and felt himself drift away into sweet unconsciousness.

Even though the half moon shined in the cloudy sky, Muddythorn lay in his den. Beechface had quickly decided that now would definitely not be a good night to leave the camp, given the state the clan was in. It had been a long, difficult day, and so he was grateful for some rest, although he was sad to be missing his first half-moon meeting. He could see the other medicine cats at the Gathering, though, which wasn't too far away.

It didn't seem like any of the others were coming, and the few that did show up didn't seem to be in the talking mood. Which was fine for the white tom. Quickly he followed the others into Mothermouth, not minding the dark tunnel they had to venture through. Once they reached the Moonstone Dovefrost picked his spot before settling down and pressing his nose to the stone. Quickly falling asleep.

Even though the half-moon was high in the night sky, Smallbean laid in his nest, thoughts running wild, going over the events of the past moon. Never in his life had he seen so many cats in the medicine den, and never in his time serving as medicine cat had he needed to use so many cobwebs. Although some cats had given him a scare, most seemed to be doing much better. As his eyelids began to grow heavy with the weight of sleep, his eyes flickered over to Cloverpaw, watching the faint rise and fall of her flank while she slept.


Smallbean didn't know when he had fallen asleep, but he did, and cotton will edit this once they get a dice roll.
