Crimson-Stained Claws

The sun had set, ShadowClan waking up as it disappeared over the horizon. Murkystrike had hauled herself to her paws, her now largely rounded belly swaying as she balanced herself and pushed through the den's entrance. Settling in the dim moonlight, she began to groom herself, ears flicking with each noise. It was a clear, quiet night... A perfect night for a walk really. She didn't have much time left before she should move into the nursery in preparation for her kits... So perhaps this could be her final patrol. It was such a nice night after all. Getting to her paws once more, she turned to a nearby warrior - Foxspark she noted - and asked him to join her in a quick border patrol. From there, she moved to the medicine den, poking her head in to invite Rookfire along. He could gather herbs while they inspected the border and perhaps hunted.. They would see where the night took them.

As they neared the border, the air seemed really still. The wind even seemed to stop, as if it was holding it's breath. Suddenly on edge, the fur along Murkystrike's spine rose as she stopped, tail waving to signal her clanmates to do the same. Her eyes narrowed as a shadow moved in the nearby undergrowth, but as she peered closer to it she was suddenly hit from the other side, claws raking across her back and belly as her and her unseen attacker went tumbling. Caught by surprise from the sudden attack from behind, she huffed as she got back to her paws, swaying as she tried to right herself. "Ambush!," She yowled as another figure came bursting out of the bushes she had been watching, forelegs extended towards Foxspark. Her eyes narrowed as she fixed her opponent with a glare, tail lashing in fury. They had attacked her, and put her kits at risk. She had to protect her kits. Her claws unsheathed as she retaliated, bounding forward to pin the dark, skinny cat, trying to keep her swollen belly out of reach of their claws.

Rogue #1 used Run and Tackle on Murkystrike, dealing 9 (+3) damage for 10 SP.

Foxspark nodded when Murkystrike asked him to come with a patrol with her. Though he thought that trying to go on patrol with kits in your belly would be a bad idea, he had learned his lesson for doubting Shira when his mate did the same thing. Noticing Rookfire follow them, the three cats padded along the territory. Suddenly, something rammed into his side, knocking him off balance. Getting his footing and turning to his assailant, which he identified as a brown tabby, the ginger tom launched himself at the cat, striking the cat. As the ShadowClan warrior was Asylum-trained, he knew an attack that only fellow cats trained by Asylum could recognize, one that could take this rogue off-guard. They certainly didn't have the pelt or the scars of an Asylum-born cat, after all.

Foxspark used Sanctum Strike on Rogue #2, dealing 15 damage and costing 20 stamina. Rogue is stunned for one turn.

Rookfire nodded to join Murkystrike and Foxspark on a patrol. He for one was excited to collect more herbs for ShadowClan's stores. After all, they needed specific herbs that he hoped that they would find. As the black tuxedo smiled at the sun setting into the darkness, he padded alongside Murkystrike and Foxspark as the three cats went on a patrol together.

Suddenly, the air stopped flowing, the wind stifling into nothingness. "Something's wrong here," Rookfire said uneasily. "It's almost like StarClan's warning us about something, or someone." Right after he said those words, Murkystrike and Foxspark were ambushed by two cats, one jet black and the other a dark brown tabby. Before the black tuxedo could do anything, the two warriors took control of the battle by keeping their attackers pinned and dazed, respectively. They wouldn't even stand a chance, as the medicine cat was also a skilled fighter and could fight them if they started to gain an advantage.

The second rogue spat, having noticed the she-cat's eyes on him. Thankfully his partner had jumped into motion, launching the attack. While she had the she-cat distracted, he would take care of the other one. What he hadn't expected however was the swiftness that his chosen opponent would turn on him. As the blow landed, he shook his head, trying to clear his vision from the stars that swam around it. His partner wasn't faring much better, as she found herself pinned under the she-cat. The extra weight helped keep her down, despite her desperate attempts to lash out at Murkystrike.

While his enemy was stunned, Foxspark launched himself at the tom. As his foe was standing still, it made him an easy target to fight. The ginger tom lashed out at the rogue who attacked him, slashing at the tom's face.

Meanwhile, Rookfire continued to watch Murkystrike. He knew that Foxspark could handle himself with his rogue, but Murkystrike was more vulnerable due to being pregnant with kits. As of now, she seemed to be doing well herself, but the rogue could - and most likely would - get out of Murkystrike's grip eventually. In that case, Rookfire would be there to help defeat them.

Foxspark used Rear-Up to Slash, dealing 11 damage and costing 15 stamina.

Murkystrike could feel her grasp on the she-cat weaken, and she positioned herself to slide off as gracefully as her swollen belly would allow. As she landed, she took the opportunity to bring her claws down the rogue's shoulders, but sharp pain lanced through her body as she panted, feeling dizzy suddenly. Fear flashed in her eyes as the pain increased, ripping through her belly and making her whimper. Swallowing, she tried to steel herself, but her terror was clear as she looked to Rookfire, sides heaving. It appeared as though the stress of the sudden ambush had caused her to begin to go into early labor, but the danger had not yet passed. Turning back to focus on the rogue, her eyes narrow as she watched the she-cat's tail tip disappear. Turning, she saw that the other rogue that had been fighting Foxspark had field as well.... She longer to chase after them, to rip answers from their throats as to their reasoning for being there, but as another bout of pain ripped through her body she let out a shrill whimper and stumbled, feeling dizzy. "Rookfire... We need to get back to camp. Something is wrong. Foxspark... Run ahead, as quickly as you can. Let Flintstar know what happened, then arrange a battle patrol of no less than-" Her voice was cut off with by a pained cry as her entire body tensed. When it finally seemed to pass, she focused her gaze back on the tom. "No less than five warriors. Mistyfalcon is not to be included. Find where those rogues went, but do not leave the territory. Report back your findings to Flintstar... He and I will discuss later." She took a step and stumbled, wobbly in her pain. "Be quick, Foxspark, may StarClan guide your paws."

The rogues have disengaged! The battle is over.
