A Good Distraction (Open Hunting Patrol)

Ashstorm popped her head out of the warriors den and made her way towards the edge of camp.  She was assigned to go on a hunting patrol today, which she was glad to have as a distraction.  With everything that happened, even just in Skyclan, it seemed like a distraction was needed for everyone.  Since the Asylum, drama seemed to fill the clan, and even after they left there still seemed to be some.  She was the first to arrive.  She sat down and brushed her tail around to her front and placed it on her paws, waiting for the others.

With a yawn, Birdsong made her way out of the warrior's den. She'd been assigned to a hunting patrol with Ashstorm, and there were certainly worse options. Spotting her aunt sitting near the entrance of camp, Birdsong padded over with a cherry wave of her tail.

"Morning, Ashstorm." She greeted, "Is anyone else coming?"

Herbo Deliah, slowly padded towards her mother and cousin, waving her tail anxiously in hello. She hadn't really told anyone that she preferred to be called by the name her father gave her, due to her being scared that the clan might shun her. She was being untraditional for Starclan's sake.

She softly shook her thoughts away as she softly mewed,"M-morning g-guys." Right now she had to hunt. Not worry about her name and whatnot.

Ashstorm saw Birdsong approach and she smiled at her niece.  "Good morning," she replied.  "Quietstep is coming also."  Right after she finished saying that, Quietstep came into Ashstorm's view, walking slowly.  Ashstorm waved her tail back in hello to her daughter.  Ashstorm worried for her daughter slightly.  Quietstep was, well, quiet.   She did not really seem to speak her mind that much and Ashstorm worried that she might not have that many friends.  But she loved her daughter and wouldn't want her to change.

"Hi, Quietstep!"  She exclaimed.  "This is everyone.  Now let's go catch prey."

She walked to a place were she had good luck catching prey in the past.  "This should be a good spot," she said.  She walked out of the group a little to try and find something.  She stopped walking and her ears turned to the footsteps of a squirrel.  Her head turned as she saw the little thing go directly towards a nut.  She walked slowly up to it and pounced, attempting to catch the small creature.  She grabbed the prey in her mouth.  Blood poured out of the puncture wounds she made and within a few seconds the squirrel was lifeless.  She quickly buried it a returned to Birdsong and Quietstep.

"Hey, Quietstep." Birdsong greeted her cousin warmly before turning to follow Ashstorm out of camp. Ashstorm led them to a familiar spot, and wasted little time in catching a squirrel. Birdsong turned away in search of her own prey.

The soft chirps of a bird had the she-cat lifting her head, eyes scanning the trees until she found her target. Birdsong quietly leapt into the branches, making her way towards the bird as quietly as she could. It remained blissfully unaware of her presence until her claws hooked into soft plumage, and Birdsong leaned forward to nip the bird behind the head, quickly killing it.

Leaping lightly from the tree, she buried the bird before once more turning to look for more prey. This hunt was already proving to be more successful than her hunting with Juniperlight and Tornshadow had a few days earlier, and Birdsong hoped that it stayed that way.

She softly followed after Tornshadow and Ashstorm, as the both of them swiftly caught a piece prey. Her ears softly perked up, as she heard soft rustling. She crouched down, a bit wonkily, as she padded towards the source. She soon discovered that the rustling came from a shrew, and got closer to it. She then attempted to leap, though the attempt turned out poorly, as she slammed face first into the ground, right in front of the shrew. And since the shrew had half a brain, it obviously ran off. "D-Darn it." Herbo Deliah whispered out, as she stood. Curse her clumsiness.

Quietstep attempted to catch a shrew, costing -3sp. The catch was unsuccessful!

Ashstorm saw Birdsong catch a bird and Quietstep attempt to catch a shrew.  She winced as her Quietstep hit the ground face first, but didn't dare say anything about that in case it would make her daughter feel worse.  She just gave a concerned look towards her, followed by a shy smile.

After, she went back to catching something else.  She spotted a rat.  The rat was apparently unaware of all the cats around, which was strange but good for Ashstorm.  She slowly walked up to it, hoping it would continue to not notice her.  The rat quickly turned it's head however and saw the grey she-cat before Ashstorm could catch it.  The small creature ran and she tried to chase after it, but it quickly escaped her.  She couldn't see it anymore as the creature just blended into the rest of the forest.  She sighed and then walked back closer to where Quietstep and Birdsong were.

Ashstorm used -3SP to attempt to catch a rat.  The catch was unsuccessful.

Birdsong decided it was best if she didn't comment on Quietstep missing her shrew, though winced in sympathy for the other warrior. Ashstorm took off after a rat, and Birdsong lifted her gaze back to the trees instead.

A squirrel was perched in the lower branches of a nearby tree, and Birdsong made her way toward it. A branch away, she leapt for the fluffy creature. Her paws brushed the squirrel's tail, but Birdsong reared back in surprise at the eagle she wound up tangling with. It seemed as thought they had gone after the same prey.

Birdsong slashed at the eagle with her front paws, hissing at the sting of talons that scored the back of her neck.

Birdsong attempted to catch a squirrel for -3 sp. Catch was unsuccessful!

Standing up, she could feel the sympathic stares of her mother and cousin burning into her. Herbo Delilah's ears lowered as she sniffed the air for more prey. Ashstorm and Birdsong had already wandered off again, to probably hunt more prey. As she sniffed the air, she smelled something off, towards Birdsong's direction. Herbo Delilah slowly padded towards the source of the smell, and quickly found that it was the scent of an eagle.

Her fur spiked up, as she saw that Birdsong was in fight with the eagle. I-I have to help her! She thought, as she unsheathed her claws. She ran towards the tree, nearly tripping in the process, and began climbing it, climbing towards Birdsong. She got to the branch Birdsong was on, before walking slowly towards the eagle, a bit scared that she might fall off the tree branch. She then lifted one up, and slashed it across the eagle's face, nearly blinding it in the process.

Quietstep used Front Paw Strike on Eagle, costing -10SP, and dealing -8 HP!
