Hunting for Herbs (CLOSED)

Herb Hunting Rolls:

Rookfire had organized a patrol with Batglow to get some herbs at the moment, since the medicine den needed some restocking. Since the bitter chill of Leaf-Bare had begun to fade, the medicine cat hoped that some poppy seeds could be found around the area. Of course, he would have to see. At the very least, it was nice to have another cat who knew what most of the herbs looked like on the patrol, so he probably wouldn't have to explain as much to him as he would another warrior. Also, he enjoyed Batglow's company as well.

As the two toms left, their Asylum accompaniment began following them. Even with the fox pelt covering his face, the black tuxedo knew that it was Spark. At the very least, the black tuxedo could see Spark helping ShadowClan again if he asked. The last time he met with Spark, they ended up making an agreement to not backstab each other, and it held. Perhaps the same thing could happen once again, though perhaps he would refuse with the presence of Batglow with them. I'll bide my time. No need for me to do it right now.

While he was normally up for conversation, he was on the lookout for herbs at the time being, which caused him to be unusually quiet. Now, where are these herbs?

Batglow remained quiet on the walk out of the camp. His usual wide bright eyes were narrower than usual due to the company that the two toms had. He wasn't familiar with the pelted tom, and wasn't sure if he wanted to be considering how things have been going lately with the Asylum. The lanky black tom had witnessed too many times that their company just stood by and watched when they needed help, but he wasn't going to let it ruin his time with the medicine cat either.

Narrow yellow green eyes looked at the Aslyum cat, before brushing past the pelted tom and up to Rookfire. "Rookfire." Due to the company Batglow's voice was a little colder but he wasn't going to stop from being friendly. "What all are we looking for again? I know Poppy seeds was one."

Rookfire stared at Batglow. He seemed to be hostile to Spark, which made sense. After all, nobody knew what Spark and Rookfire knew from that one patrol. Ignoring the Asylum Scout, the black tuxedo responded to Batglow's question. "ShadowClan needs some more feverfew and coltsfoot, and hopefully there will be some horsetail and cobwebs somewhere. Poppy seeds and tansy would be unbelievable if we can find them, but it won't be easy to find them." He believed that Batglow did know what they all looked like, but if the tom needed a refresher, Rookfire would gladly give it to him.

Searching for some of the herbs that he mentioned, he stumbled upon a plant with white flowers. They blended well in the snow, but Rookfire was still able to find them. "Alright, I found some coltsfoot here!" he said to Batglow. "Did you find anything yet, or are you still looking?" The black tuxedo noticed Spark sitting at the outside, watching as the two toms searched for herbs. You know, you could help us, he thought, glaring at the ginger tom. Perhaps his patience was going to run out quicker than he first thought.

As Spark stared icily back at Rookfire, the Asylum Scout then turned his head away from the two ShadowClan cats, obviously helping search. Thanks, Spark, he thought, smirking a little. It's always better when Asylum helps out as well.

While Spark was watching the two ShadowClan cats, the ginger tom noticed Rookfire glare at him with some sense of hostility. Perhaps it was to say that he shouldn't be standing around, and that he should help as well. Glaring back at the medicine cat, the ginger tom then began looking for cobwebs and poppy seeds. He didn't know any of the other herbs that Rookfire had mentioned, but he could at least look for the ones that he did know.

Walking around the clearing, the Asylum Scout gazed around the snowy landscape, searching for the two herbs that he knew. He didn't feel like asking Rookfire about what the other herbs looked like. Perhaps it was just habit, after moons of training himself to listen and gain information that way, or perhaps it was a matter of pride, as he didn't want to embarrass himself. Really, the two were connected, since his desire to not embarrass himself caused him to stop asking questions directly and instead eavesdrop to gain answers. But the reason why he didn't want to embarrass himself... it was never real, right? It was all a lie that Eris had made up, something that she told every missing kit.

But why was he so affected by it?

The thought was that he was unique, that he had always been treated differently. But that didn't make any sense to how Eris raised them. He was raised about the same way as the others, and he eventually grew up to be a Scout for Asylum, just like a few other cats with him. He wasn't treated any differently than any other cat in that scenario. And he remembered savoring every moment in which he felt that he really was like everyone else. It was some sort of contradiction. If Eris lied about the Clans treating him poorly, then why did he feel like he was always treated differently than everyone else when Asylum never did such a thing? Perhaps it wasn't something he had to dwell on at the moment, especially when he was supposed to look for cobwebs and poppy seeds.

Realizing where he had ended up, much farther away from the two toms than he hoped to be, the Asylum Scout dashed back to where the ShadowClan cats were. Thankfully, they were still there, looking for herbs as always. Why did I experience this so differently from any other missing kit? It was an answer for another time, really. Right now, he needed to focus on looking for cobwebs and poppy seeds. Cobwebs, poppy seeds, cobwebs, poppy seeds. Focusing back on his goal, the Asylum scout began to take note of every step he took. Ironically, it made it harder for him to focus on finding cobwebs and poppy seeds.

Batglow nodded. He remembered pretty well what the herbs looked like considering he had been spending more time as of late in the medicine den ever since he intruded the tom's ceremony. He felt pretty welcome in the den again ever since then, well more so ever since their talk when he was wounded but never really acted on it til then.  The lanky black tom never really realized how much he missed it.

Yellow green eyes scanned the ground, paws digging into the snow in places he usually would find herbs hoping to achieve anything they were looking for. Hopefully he would find something. Anything really. They needed it. As he nosed among the ground his eyes widened at the familiar plant. Well it wasn't what they really needed but at least it was something. "I found some feverfew. Not exactly poppyseeds but helpful I'm sure." The tom called out being careful to pick the ight part of the pant to take back for later.

Rookfire nodded at Batglow's response, grinning at the tom. It was good to find at least some stuff in these times, no matter what it was. Finding these herbs is absolutely fine. As the black tuxedo gazed around the herbs, he noticed something stick out of the snow. Dashing towards it, he dashed up to it... only to discover that it was just another sprig of coltsfoot. "Foxdung!" A decent find, but he had already found coltsfoot this patrol. Are you kidding me? he thought to himself, sighing as he dug up the coltsfoot to bring it to the clearing where they put the herbs.

Spark had completely shifted his mission from helping Asylum keep watch over ShadowClan to helping ShadowClan find herbs. He wasn't that good at herbs like the Standards were - in fact, he found them to be extremely confusing and difficult to deal with - but he could still put his looking skills to good use. Eventually, the ginger tom stared at a surface underneath a rock. The top of the rock was covered in snow, but the bottom was far from covered. "I found cobwebs," he said, telling the other cats here that he found them. Grabbing the cobwebs from the space where they were hiding, the ginger tom brought them back to the clearing where they were putting all of the other herbs. The two other herbs that were there weren't something that he knew about, but he thought that it would be good to look for them as well. After all, they were being brought back by the two ShadowClan toms, which meant that they were at least somewhat useful.

Batglow perked up at Rookfire's curse. His heart dropping for a split second thinking something was wrong but just noting that the tom had found a repeat of something other than what they really needed. He understood the frustration. Yellow green eyes turned to Spark at the call of his find. Cobwebs huh? They needed those too. It wasn't herbs but, they couldn't ever have enough of those. Cobwebs were just as important. He just nodded in response to the ginger tom's find before moving on to find something more himself.

Batglow moved a little, eyes catching a little spring sticking out near some old roots. Maybe? The black tom pushed forward towards the spot hoping it was something they really needed this time around. As he stepped closer his heart fell. "Rats.." He muttered under his breath just finding it was a tree sprig coming out of the grow. A sign of the coming new leaf. Nothing important that they needed to find. With a small sigh of defeat the tom turned away, pushing to move on to another location he figured might have what they needed.
