Paws quiet against the ground, a massive tabby padded into the area set for this "competition," his gait unhurried. Unlike some of his brethren, his fur was free of a pelt, the natural darkness of his pelt lit with hints of flame beneath showing in the bright leaf-bare sunlight. Almost immediately, his gaze caught a grey pelt, eyes softening slightly. The young tom had been going through a few interesting times lately - coming back to his group and rejoining cats who didn't particularly appreciate the way in which he'd come back. Oh yes, Cleft had long suspected the tom's origins; coming here had only confirmed it. They all had their pasts.

Coming up to the other's side, he sat with a grunt, watching the wrestling with a mild curiosity. "Anyone asked you to step up yet, kit?"

Out of the corner of his eye Duran noticed a familiar two-toned pelt enter the clearing, one he hadn't seen in a while.  Oh, Shimmerdust!  I never checked up on her after the eagle attack, things got too chaotic.  If she's here though I bet she's alright.  He tried to send a smile her way but she wasn't looking in his direction; he was about to stand up and see if she wanted to spar when another cat approached him from the side, this one quite a bit larger than he was.  Duran looked up and greeted Cleft with a friendly purr, before shaking his head.  "No, not yet.  I've just been watching."  An idea came to his mind in a flash, along with a memory.  In the first moons he joined Asylum the cat beside him had been both a mentor and a friend, showing him their ways as well as helping him refine his skills.  They hadn't spoken in a while because of the chaos of the invasion, but now was a perfect time to catch up.  Standing up and bending his legs into a fighting stance, Duran lashed his tail and meowed to Cleft in a mock challenging tone; "You wanna take a chance against me, old man?"  His 'threat' ended in a laugh that Duran couldn't quite hold in.

The ghost of a smile flickered over the big tom's muzzle at the greeting. A shame - the kit was quite good for a scout. He could remember a few sparring matches with him when the younger cat had first joined. Perhaps that was what Duran was thinking right now as he stood, turning and offering Cleft a fighting stance, his green eyes sparkling.

Cleft inclined his head, brows rising slightly as the corners of his maw slowly turned upwards in answer to the younger cat's laugh. "It's been a while, hasn't it? I'd enjoy seeing how you've improved." Standing with an easy litheness that belied his age, he narrowed his fiery amber eyes, a faint twinkle playing in their depths. "Perhaps you'll manage to best me, this time."

Of course, he could always let the younger cat do so. Duran needed a challenge, but he also needed a boost to his confidence - in the end, what would help Duran would help the Asylum. And so, surging forwards - quick as a snake and heavy as a badger - he moved into range of the other with a quick probing move, not committing his weight and skill to the match just yet. Perhaps, just perhaps, Duran would surprise him of his own volition.

Either way, it was sure to be a good challenge for both of them.

Shrikefrost was surprised when his mate was thrown onto the ground by the force and momentum of his attack. He attempted to to press his advantage and pin her quickly. Wisteriabloom, ever an experienced warrior, was able to roll back onto her paws and leap at him. Shrikefrost ducked beneath her long legs and slid out of the way just in time, turning around and grinning at his mate. Pinning her with force wouldn't work because of how much larger she was, and his first tactic hadn't worked either. He could try to tire her out with blows to the legs, he figured, and maybe one of those blows would make her fall and he wouldn't have to completely tire her out. He stepped back for a moment and started striking at her legs, with sheathed but somewhat forceful paws.

Wisteriabloom had to admit, Shrikefrost was a lot better fighting than she had expected. He was certainly using his smaller size as an advantage, and the silver warrior was struggling to get a good blow on him. As he went for her legs, she leapt over him and instead attacked from behind. It went a little better then her first attack, but still not as well as she'd hoped. However, she did mange to bring them both to the floor, but she didn't know how long that would last, or which one of them it would help.

Shrikefrost had to step in to reach her legs, and as he did so, Wisteriabloom leapt over him. He spun around, trying to prepare for a potential attack as it came. And it did. She bowled him over. The pair rolled over and over until Shrikefrost's foot found purchase on a pebble stuck into the ground. He stood up, disoriented, until his mate's gray tabby form came into view. He leapt onto her at an awkward angle and tried to force her to the ground with essentially all of his weight. He pinned her here, or he lost.

It was beginning to dawn on Wisteriabloom just how skilled her mate was. She had definitely come in with too much confidence after her win against Stormbringer, and it was coming back to bite her. The two of them were both definitely tiring, it was clear to see, so the spar should be over soon. Together her and Shrikefrost tumbled on the ground, until the tom found his footing, giving him an advantage over Wisteriabloom, who was still on the floor. She got to her feet, but the unusual angle that the other warrior threw all his weight in immediately knocked her over again. It was now over. She was pinned.

"Well that was unexpected!" She said as she waited for the smaller warrior to get off of her, "I thought I was going to win for sure!"
