The fox had thought for just a moment the she cat had been retreating without her kit. The smaller cat was more of an annoyance than anything, so despite the fact that the little punk had velcro'd to his belly, the fox watched the mother cat climb the tree. He was surprised when she leaped from the branch and landed back onto him though. Pain exploded from the fox's back and a menacing growl ripped from his throat. I'm done with you cat... You will feel pain. Your kit will watch.
The fox lunged for Smokefeather with hungry jaws.
The Fox used Thrash on Smokefeather, dealing 20 damage and -20SP
Fox 36HP / 240SP (-20SP)
Smokefeather Stunned for 1 turn 60HP / 215SP (-20HP)
Copperpaw felt the fox nearly fall on top of him from... something that he only assumed was his mother. He didn't open his eyes. He focused on kicking his legs as hard and as fast as he could, but he could feel himself getting tired. Not tired enough for his muscles to seize, but tired enough that he knew he'd need to change tactics soon. The fox started moving a lot... thrashing it's head? Copperpaw's eyes opened and he looked, though he was upside down, and saw with horror that the fox was shaking his mother around like ragdoll.
"MOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!!" He screeched. His legs found energy yet again... and his assault on the fox's belly flesh continued. He was determined to spill the fox's guts, where only a moment before, he only wanted it to go away... LEAVE MY MOM ALOOOOONNEE!!!
Copperpaw used Belly Rake, dealing 7 damage and -10SP

Smokefeather's claws ripped into the fox's russet back with a vengeance. How dare it go after her family. It, and its' filthy kin had killed Sagelight, had harmed her clanmates. Going after Copperpaw had been a mistake. The last mistake it would ever make, if she had her way. The fox had suffered damage, but Smokefeather knew that their luck of being uninjured could not last. It would turn on her, or it would turn on Copper. Hopefully it would be her.
The fox turned on her, and Smokefeather felt the rancid breath as the fox closed its' jaws around her. Pain exploded in her sides, and a curse was cut off as the wind was driven out of her throat as the fox shook her violently from side to side.
"Copperpaw, up a tree!" She coughed out. Hoping her son would hear her and listen. Hoping even more that he wouldn't try to be the savior and do what she or Bloodstrike would do, leaping onto the fox from above and raking claws through his back.

The fox flung the she-cat violently to the side after it had shook some sense into her. The smaller cat was certainly starting to get more irritating and the fox could feel itself getting lightheaded. Still, it preferred the bigger one out of commission before it chomped down on the younger tom. It lunged forward toward the she-cat again, intending to cut her life short with her kit to follow soon afterward.
Fox used Iron Bite on Smokefeather, dealing 30 damage and -20SP
Copperpaw more or less tried to steer the fox away from his mother, pulling on his claws in a direction he'd rather have the fox go, but to no avail. At his mother's command, Copperpaw retracted his claws and fell the floor below the fox. He scrambled to his feet and bolted for the tree, but why did she want him to do that? Didn't her life matter? He ran across a limb over the fox and Smokefeather and looked down just in time to see the fox bite hard into his mother again.
Copperpaw could hear his blood in his ears. The blood from the fox felt wet and hot on his paws. He almost didn't grip the branch properly. His sense of smell seemed stronger while his legs felt weaker. He had to try one last thing... one last thing! Copperpaw repeated the move his mother made earlier. He hoped that somehow he could hurt the fox enough to scare it off. His mother was bleeding and bleeding badly... if she died trying to protect him... could he live with that? He wasn't sure that he could. He'd never be able to face his father or his siblings again.
"I don't care if I die! I can't just sit here!" Tears flowed freely down his face and he kicked off of the branch, claws outstretched, hoping with all of his soul that this would be enough. It had to end. It had to!
Copperpaw used Sky Drop, dealing 9 damage and -15SP

Smokefeather grit her teeth against the pain, forcing herself back to her paws. She would fight her hardest to keep Copperpaw safe even if it was the last thing she did. The fox snapped jaws at her, and pain shot through her shoulder. With a hiss, Smokefeather struggled forward, clamping her jaws around what she could reach of the fox's neck. It wasn't a decent hold, the jugular wasn't something she could get to in her current position, but she used the leverage to rear up onto her hindlegs and slash at the fox viciously as Copperpaw leapt on it from above.
She registered his words, but didn't let up her grip on the fox to reply. He was untrained, and must've been tired, but he was definitely his father's son.
Smokefeather used Teeth Grip on fox for -20sp, dealing 12 damage. Effect Dice: 1,2: works one turn. 3,4: two turns, 5,6: three turns. Rolled 5, fox is under Teeth Grip for THREE turns.

The fox's jaws relented once he felt the small tom scathe down his back where wounds were already bleeding. He spun on the small cat, a look of death in his yellow eyes as he bared his teeth. It was time to kill that one. He'd been irritating enough the entire fight. The fox made a move to go for the young cat... just as a piercing pressure enclosed around his neck. The fox flailed and started to back-pedal, only dragging the cat with it. No sound could come out aside from a few choked wheezes and hacks. Darkness began to close in on his vision.
Fox is under the effect of Teeth Grip for three turns!
Copperpaw slid off of the fox's back as it spun on him. He was on his feet faster than even he realized was possible and was ready to move again, but his mother was faster. Smokefeather's teeth clamped closed over the fox's neck... and for once it looked like the russet predator was afraid. Copperpaw's sides were heaving with the effort of catching his breath, but he charged forward anyway. His paws were slippery from blood, but he managed to at least jump and throw his weight into his next attack. A hard shoulder hit the fox in his ribs. Copperpaw, being far lighter than the fox, bounced off of it, but the blow seemed like it had been enough that the fox needed even more oxygen than before and was now unable to get it.
Copperpaw used Run and Tackle, dealing 6 damage and -10SP

Smokefeather was dragged with the fox as it spun on Copperpaw. Grimly, she clung to the scrawny neck harder. She refused to let this piece of crow-food lay a paw on the apprentice. The fox struggled to even cough now, and the struggles became weaker and weaker as Smokefeather managed to adjust her grip slightly, still clawing at the fox furiously.
The fox jerked slightly, though Smokefeather couldn't quite see what had happened from her angle, vision obscured by russet fur. Still, it pushed the fox further into her jaws, and she nearly gagged at the blood in her mouth as the struggling creature stilled beneath her grip.
The fox collapsed, and Smokefeather sank to the ground with it, her own injuries making their presence felt in a wash of pain as she gripped the fox for a moment longer. It didn't move again, and Smokefeather released her grip, coughing.
"Copperpaw, are you alright?" Smokefeather managed between coughs. If he was hurt she would never forgive herself. Gray-green eyes scanned the frame of the fluffy apprentice, her worry obvious. Blood, but not his. Maybe Starclan was watching them after all, or maybe it was sheer luck.
"F-"Ugh, she thought. She didn't want to know how much blood was coating her right now, both the fox and her own. Gritting her teeth against the pain, Smokefeather staggered to her feet, sides heaving with effort.
"That's... Enough training for today. You fought well, I didn't intend for hunting to turn into combat training." She rasped. "This... needs to be reported back to camp." Bloodstrike was going to have a field day when he saw what had happened. And Beechpaw... Smokefeather had a feeling she was going to be yelled at. But that fox had needed to die. It had gone after Copperpaw, after her family, and she would endure worse to keep them safe.

Copperpaw watched as the fox went limp and flopped over. He was now greedily sucking in lungfuls of cold air as his breath flowed from his exhales like a train engine. He was exhausted. He would have fought more if he had needed to, but once the fight was done and Smokefeather offered her praises, Copperpaw's legs buckled under him. He needed a second. He curled his paws in tight around himself and pulled his tail in close too. He shut his eyes and shuddered.
"Mom..." His voice squeaked, but it cut out the other words he wanted to say. He swallowed hard trying to get rid of the lump in his throat. His heart still pounded and something that had nothing to do with the cold leaf-fall air made him shudder again. "I never want to fight again."
