Violetkit’s Apprentice Ceremony

Wildflower was slowly getting more used to the duties of deputy. Apprentice ceremonies, specifically. It would only be her second time on the rock instead of below it. She wondered briefly how many she would do over the course of her time as deputy, and later as leader, which was a scary thing to think about. Terrifying. But I don’t have to, because Olivestone isn’t going anywhere. The molly forced darker thoughts out of her mind and let out the call. Her voice was still reedy, but more confident by a tiny margin. “Let all cats old enough to run the moor gather beneath the Tallrock for a Clan meeting.” The wind ruffled her pelt up. It was about sunhigh, and surprisingly bright. She waited for Violetkit, who had made the six-moon mark, and shifted her weight from paw to paw. Energetic, the queens had described her as, needed help focusing. Wildflower hid a smile - the mentor she’d chosen would be perfect for the job.

Softbreeze was ecstatic; her little flowers was growing up! Dande had been made a 'paw shortly ago, and now it was Violetkit's turn. "Violetkit, wake up!" The gentle she-cat mewed, nudging her awake as she lead the little kit she'd find those moons ago to the Highrock, where she'd be named Violetpaw, and where she'd get a mentor to teach her everything they learned from their mentor and their mentor's mentor. All the way back to the first WindClan warriors. Softbreeze was excited to see who would mentor the sweet, excitable dark gray she-kit.

Violetkit raised her dark head, blinking sleepily at her 'bestest friend'. "Softbreeze?" She murmured, tired. She put her dark grey paw on Softbreeze's paw to get her to stop nudging her. Her ears caught the deputy's voice on the wind. "Oh!" She immediately stood up, picking up the feather she found on her first few days out of the nursery, she carried it out with her and blinked up at the leader. Stay focused. She told herself as her gaze drifted to a fluttering butterfly. She blinked quickly and shifted her gaze to Wildflower. The tall kit stepped towards the deputy hesitantly, pausing at the edge of the crowd. She turned her head back to see Softbreeze. Violetkit held the feather even tighter in her jaws, waiting for Softbreeze's approval. This is how it went with all the other ceremonies, right? This is how the other kits did it? She thought, as if Softbreeze could read minds.

“Violetkit, please step forwards,” Wildflower could hear Softbreeze waking the kit up. I mean... if it’s sunhigh and she’s not awake, discipline is the route to go. But Downtuft can be... no nice way to put it, honestly a huge jerk sometimes. Most of the time. “Violetkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Violetpaw. Your mentor will be Downtuft.” She decided against saying ‘I trust he will discipline you’ or the like. That type of remark wouldn’t do anything for Violetpaw’s nerves if she had any.

Violetkit listened to every word. Smiling more every second that went by. "...you will be known as Violetpaw." Those words made the newly-named Violetpaw's tail lift. She looked back to spot Softbreeze, her eyes gleaming with excitement. Looking back up just in time to hear her mentor's name. "...Downtuft." The feather slipped from the new apprentice's mouth. Down... tuft? If her eyes weren't glowing before, they certainty were now. Softbreeze's brother? She spun around, looking for the tabby that was known as the medicine cat's brother.
