Into the Night

The Tunnels were tricky to navigate. But Amberpaw knew that she would get used to it eventually.

The Apprentice trotted into the tunnels. She knew it was not exactly the safest to be going in on her own, but chances are someone else was hanging around anyways. If she started screaming, there was a 98% chance that someone would hear. Whether or not they came to help was another thing.

And besides, she was a pretty fast runner. Amberpaw had no doubt that she would get away in time if needed.

Three attempts at catching. If I hadn't caught anything by then, continue until I get a single catch. Amberpaw reminded herself as she stepped forward.

The tunnels were large. Winding. Massive. Disorienting.

Amberpaw stopped entirely and began to rotate her head round and round. Despite the low visibility, the tunnels were still very interesting. And the smell was peculiar, but not too strange.

All of a sudden, Amberpaw spotted movement. Putting off her research for now, she crept forward and looked to see what it was. It seemed to be a rabbit. Taking a deep breath, she pounced.

The rabbit didn't even seem to spot or hear Amberpaw despite its large ears. Amberpaw nailed the creature with a single leap, pinning it to the ground. She killed it in a swift bite.

Attempt number 1, complete. Amberpaw found that the rabbits here were surprisingly easy to catch. Scraping some dirt over her catch, she proceeded onwards.

A soft rustle caught her attention. Not a rabbit this time, a hare. Amberpaw found herself mentally reciting their differences. Hares have longer legs and are larger than rabbits.

Regardless, she heard they were also fairly easy to catch in the Tunnels. She'll see if it was true.

Amberpaw crept forwards and leapt.

A sudden hissing noise sent the hare fleeing. Amberpaw spun around as a long, vine-like creature struck at her. A snake, she recalled. This one didn't have long fangs-not poisonous. That was good.

A wild Snake appeared!

The snake hissed angrily. Amberpaw must have nearly stepped on its nest. The she-cat cursed herself for being so careless as to not notice a snake very clearly nearby.

Then, the snake struck out. It lashed out and sank its teeth deeply into Amberpaw's leg.

With a yowl of pain, Amberpaw stepped onto the serpent's tail-or at least, tried to. She recalled that it made the opponent stunned when she pulled on their tails. Unfortunately, Amberpaw missed due to the snake's movements.

Amberpaw may be here to hunt, but she isn't a fool. There is no way she is staying here, with a snake attacking her.

Using that speed that she had noted to herself about earlier, Amberpaw fled from the snake.

Best not to continue hunting. I'm hurt and I don't want to risk getting attacked again. Amberpaw told herself. Picking up the rabbit she had caught earlier, and taking reassurance in the fact that she had at least caught something, she left the Tunnels.
