sitting still

Flashkit was just outside the nursery, watching the goings-on of RiverClan's camp with fascination. Cats came and went, into and out of the territory she knew only from the stories they brought back, some with prey and some without. It seemed with every day she drew closer and closer to seeing it for herself, closer and closer to her own apprenticeship, but never quite close enough. It was only ever almost there, never actually reaching; and she wasn't quite six moons old yet but she was determined to be the best apprentice.

She was RiverClan, pure RiverClan, and from what she had gathered - from passing comments, from whispered words she was pretty sure she wasn't meant to overhear, from compliments she had occasionally received on her natural talents - that meant something. What it meant, exactly, seemed to vary depending on who was saying it; but she understood that she was meant to be good at RiverClan things, and so she would someday be the best at RiverClan things.

For now, though, she would watch the rest of her clanmates in an attempt to learn what those RiverClan things were. She wanted to know as much as possible by the time she finally became an apprentice, after all; and what better way was there to learn? Well, if she was entirely honest there was doing, and she did that where she could, but they wouldn't let her leave the camp to practice hunting and they wouldn't teach her to fight just yet, so this was the next best thing.
