Dustkit's Apprentice Ceremony

It was promising to be another scorching day beneath the Greenleaf sun - it was barely dawn, and already the heat was near unbearable. But today was to be another day of celebration - yet another kit was getting their apprentice ceremony today. Wolfcall squinted begrudgingly at the sun, his ears flat against his head, but made his way lazily towards the Tallbranch, coiling and springing to land atop it. He flexed and dug his claws in, ensuring balance, and then straightened and sat. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Tallbranch for a clan meeting!"

Dustkit was awake...but not exactly for a reason she would have liked. It was hot. Unbearably hot. It was barely morning, no reason for the sun to be making everything so hot already but you know...always gotta make the long-haired cats suffer, especially this one. Her fur was already a disgusting mess and as she was working on grooming it back out to something more acceptable her ears perked up at the mention of some clan meeting or whatever. She got up from her spot and made her way over, irritation giving way to mild excitement.

It has to be an apprentice ceremony right? The other three already had their ceremonies and are apprentices...so why am I not one already? Is it...my 'attitude'? If it is that I can't help it if every other cat is stupid and overreacts to silly things... As Dustkit mulled over her thoughts her mild excitement from a moment ago went straight back to irritation and there was a noticeable frown on her face. She would just have to wait under the Tailbranch and find out..hopefully sooner rather than later, before she very likely snapped at someone.

The dreary expression on Dustkit's - and several others' - face made it clear to Wolfcall that he was not the only one who was totally not appreciating this heat, and so he wasted no time once the clan was gathered beneath him. "Dustkit, please step forward! You have reached the age of six moons, and it is now time for you to be apprenticed. From this day forward, until the day you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Dustpaw. Your mentor will be Mistrain! I trust her to instill into you the same ideals and lessons that Foxfire taught to her." He dipped his head and dropped from the Tallbranch, his eyes briefly meeting Mistrain's with a congratulatory wink.

Mistrain blinked in surprise as her name was called, then nodded at Wolfcall. Dustpaw was her niece after all, and Mistrain had had first hand experience with her. Padding up towards her new apprentice, Mistrain lightly touched noses with her. “Training starts tomorrow. Be sure to get a good nights sleep.” Her voice was loud enough to be heard by Dustpaw and Wolfcall, but soft enough that the rest of her Clanmates couldn’t hear a thing. Now, all she had to do was plan out her first lesson.

The name rang in Dustkit--no, Dustpaw's ears for a moment as she tried to place who that was until a she-cat started walked up towards her. Ohh I see, this one. The aunt...interesting? She wasn't quite sure what the whole plan for this was, and couldn't help but wonder if this was a bit of a joke on their part. But so be it, she would...deal with it, though if anything stupid were to come out of them she would not hesitate to immediately say something about it. Dustpaw awkwardly touched her nose to her new mentor's, but quickly turned away because it seemed a very odd tradition to have in her opinion.

"Training starts tomorrow."

Dustpaw sort of picked up on it, at least the important bits and was mildly weirded out that her new mentor ended up being a quiet one. She would need to start paying a bit more attention if she ever wanted to pick up on all the things this cat says in the future if she stays this quiet all the time. Though her frown stayed plastered across her face, Dustpaw was excited about the fact she finally got to be an apprentice and could continue with the whole 'being better than every other cat' goal she had set for herself when she was younger. She nodded before getting up to go somewhere... anywhere without this despicable heat that was only getting worse the longer she sat in place.
