Weaselkit's Apprentice Ceremony

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the willow branch for a clan meeting!" The leafy boughs of the willow tree partly obscured the brown tabby form of RiverClan's deputy. As he waited for his clanmates to gather for yet another apprentice ceremony, Scorchclaw's fluffy tail flicked absently against the willow branch he was perched on. A few days had passed since Shadefang's exile, and while things were dying down, a slight tension from the rogue's last threats still hung in the air.

The breeze ruffled Weaselkit's fur, as she watched the butterfly flutter down to rest in front of her. Softly, she padded towards the creature, head cocked in curiosity. Just as she sat down next to he winged critter, the deputy's familiar cry for a clan meeting rang out scaring the butterfly. The kit's ears drooped, as she watched it flitter higher into the sky until it was just a black fuzz. With a sigh, she picked herself up to go play somewhere else, but not before looking at the gathering cats. Weaselkit wondered what they were gathered for, A ceremony? An announcement? She wouldn't of been surprised if it were an apprentice ceremony, there were a lot of kits older than six moons in the nursery. When Weaselkit thought about it, it dawned upon the orange kit that she was now six moons old. It could be her ceremony! Eagerly, she changed her course and sat beneath the willow tree, hoping that it was her ceremony.

"Weaselkit, step forward." Scorchclaw beckoned the young she-cat forward. His jade-green gaze met hers, and he took a deep breath before continuing. "Weaselkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Weaselpaw and your mentor will be Orchidpool." He had spent a bit of time internally debating whether the young warrior was ready for an apprentice. She was one of RiverClan's youngest warriors; however, in the end he had decided to go ahead with his decision, believing Orchidpool to be capable enough.

Surprise struck Weaselkit, but none the less she stepped forward. Meeting the tom's gaze as he spoke. She felt slightly nervous as he spoke, having never been in front of that many cats. Weaselkit - now Weaselpaw - nodded as the tom spoke turning around to touch noses with her mentor. With a soft smile, she gazed at the crowd, as they chanted her name. The newly named apprentice let out a purr of happiness, she couldn't wait to begin training.
