The little yapper (Open)

Dogkit bounded out of the nursery in excitement. To him the camp was gigantic and He looked around in awe. At his age, he was supposed to be at least higher than someone’s paw, but poor Dogkit was the size Of a cats paw. He watched as the tall cats padded by not even seeing him. He knew that he has to stay away from large groups or he would get stomped on so as Dogkit padded close to the camp wall he saw a bug. He hunched up and pounced on the bug showing that even though he was short he could still be a good warrior.

Honeysong padded slowly out of the medicine den and yawned widely, extending out her limbs in a stretch to loosen up her stiff muscles. Ever since the war between the Clans and the Righteous Few, she and Sagelight had been forced to stay up much later than usual tending to ailing cats. She hadn't recalled the last time she had been so tired, but at least it was much better than doing the fighting. Giving her fur a quick shake, she traipsed across the clearing towards the fresh-kill pile, searching for something to eat for breakfast. She could really go for some quail right about now; plucking the feathers may be a hassle, but the succulent taste of the meat was well worth it.

Dogkit played with the bug in his paws when he realized the medicine cat walk by looking exhausted. He knew she didn’t see him as she didn’t even glance his way but he still got up, but being ignored, and bounded over to the really big cat. “Hello!” He mewed but it came out as a tiny squeak as his size was making it harder to hear his voice.

The sudden voice, as tiny as it was, spooked Honeysong. She leaped high into the air with a squeak and landed on all fours again, thankfully leaping away from Dogkit instead of landing on him. She looked down at the undersized kit, and after she recovered from the startle, she smiled sheepishly. ”O-Oh! I-I’m sorry, you startled me. Hello. You’re Dogkit, aren’t you?”

Dogkit watched as the she-cat jumped in awe not even knowing a cat could jump that high. When she landed and finally noticed Dogkit he watched as she calmed down. He didn’t mean to scare her but it happened a lot to the cats he came up to. “Yes, I’m Dogkit! How did you know? Did Starclan tell you?” He asked the medicine cat easily getting amazed

Honeysong’s smile softened, and she gave a soft purr. He was very cute, she thought. This made it somehow easier for her to speak to him, for some unknown reason. ”Not exactly. Sagelight and I helped your mother deliver you. We were there when she had decided to name you Dogkit.” She turned her attention back to the fresh-kill pile, noting the lack of quail. Trying to stifle her disappointment, she decided to choose a plump mouse instead. She hesitated for a moment before placing it down at her paws and turning back to Dogkit. “Are you old enough to eat fresh-kill yet, Dogkit?”

He listened in awe as he realized the medicine cat helped him come into the world. As she grabbed a mouse and ate it down he wondered what she was doing before she spoke. “Mama said I am but I haven’t tried any yet.” He squeaked sniffing the tiny weird prey creature.
