The Tree and the Leaf [Closed]

Cedarpaw woke up. She hadn’t seen much of Ferretnose since she left the nursery and decided yesterday she would go on a little hunt with her os they could talk. Nothing had every been one-on-one with her because of her many siblings, so it would be fun to really get to know her mother. She padded out of the den and to the edge of camp where they said they would meet. She waited for the familiar pelt to emerge out of the warrior’s den. Her brown tail flicked with anticipation as the brown tabby waited for her mother. Her green eyes darted around the camp, watching as a few cats got ready for the day. The freshkill pile was running low as well, so hunting would be good to stock it up. There were quite a few kits, well actually, the clan had tons of kits. And some new ones would be on the way soon, no doubt about it. Thunderclan also has many apprentices and many warriors. It was defiantly one of the largest clans in the forest. Which meant lots of prey to hunt. Luckily, there were many warriors and apprentices to supply it. These were the thoughts passing through Cedarpaw’s mind as she waiting for Ferretnose. She was excited for this hunting trip. One of the reasons that had inspired this was her talk with Dacedream, which had revealed that her mentor, Rainstrike, was Ferretnose’s apprentice once. Cedarpaw new that Rainstrike was a pretty young warrior, but neither of them had revealed how they knew each other. Cedarpaw supposed that if she didn’t know this, there were many other things she could learn. Another reason, that the tabby didn’t admit to herself, was that she was pretty lonely since she had lost her best friend, the one she hung out with almost all of the time. Smudgepaw. Of course, she had made new friends and gotten closer with others, especially Stormpaw, but she still missed him. Family was something she could always fall back onto, however, which was nice.

Ferretnose purred as her daughter approached her, ready to leave camp and go for a hunt. Cedarpaw was growing into a beautiful young she-cat, and the senior warrior was supremely proud of how far she had come since her nursery days. Beepaw, though equally as well-mannered and skilled, was rather standoffish to the affections of his mother lately. He declined the opportunity to hunt with them. Well, alright. A little trip for the she-cats, then!

She guided Cedarpaw through the territory, though the apprentice was well-versed enough in their land that she didn't really need the help. Ferretnose's ears swiveled, hunting for the sound of scuttling critter paws. "How has training been? I expect Rainstrike is teaching you well!" Ferretnose chirped excitedly.

Cedarpaw nodded as her mother spoke. ”Yep! I had a hunting assessment and everything!” she mewed excitedly as they started to venture through the forest. The brown tabby’s tail flicked excitedly as they reached a clearing. ”How about we start here?” asked the apprentice, looking towards Ferretnose for approval. The trees were spouting with green leaves, and the sun was shining into the forest. New-leaf had come, and it was very nice that it wasn’t always so cold.

Ferretnose purred and bumped her hip to Cedarpaw's. She and Beepaw would be warriors soon... she pondered her daughter's warrior name. Maybe Cedarfoot, for her father, who she so resembled. Or maybe she'd like a name of her own. If it was up to her, she might christen her daughter Cedarpelt. It was good to hear that Cedarpaw's training was going well. Their kin all had the same strong nose. Though her litter had shrunk to just two little ones before they could all grow up, Beepaw and Cedarpaw were incredibly fit and healthy. They didn't have her eye troubles, either.

The clearing Cedarpaw chose was a marvelous choice, and Ferretnose picked up the little rustlings of prey that scuttled just out of sight. Ferretnose nodded, bowing her head slightly as she acknowledged Cedarpaw's excellent decision. The seasoned warrior didn't mind if her children were poor fighters, so long as they were hard-working and enduring hunters. The young, strong warriors were the lifeblood of the clan. Suffice it to say, Ferretnose was exiting that category rather quickly. She found her target: a mouse hiding in the bushes. She stalked the creature with skill, honed her good eye on it, and struck out at the bush with an extended claw. The mouse came tumbling out of the bush, and Ferretnose smashed her paws on it, pinning it underneath her. She quickly snapped its spine and turned to watch Cedarpaw hunt.

Cedarpaw giggled. Her mother was a great one, and it was undeserving what had happened to her litter. Only two kits were still alive, and she hoped Beepaw and herself would stay healthy as to not cause Ferretnose any more sadness. She hoped she would become a warrior soon. As her mother acknowledged her choice, the brown tabby smiled. ”How are you?” she asked, trying to make a conversation. Soon, she saw the bushy tail of a squirrel, and stalked it. She crept up to it, and pounced, but she missed it, and instead, she found raccoon coming back towards her. She swatted at it with her paw.
Cedarpaw tried to catch a squirrel [-5 SP]. An owl has appeared! The owl used Talon Strike, dealing 10 damage and costing 10 stamina. Cedarpaw used Front Paw Strike, dealing 6 damage and costing 10 stamina!

Ferretnose turned her back for what felt like only one moment to bury her prey. "Oh, I'm feeling fine. All things considered, ThunderClan could be a lot worse off. Newleaf is always a good season for us. I thought Leafbare would never end..."

She was cut off by a shrill squawk and the near-silent flapping of wings. Ferretnose's worst fears were suddenly realized when she turned around and found a large, mottled owl scrambling through the undergrowth with her daughter in tow. The fur on her neck, back, and tail fluffed up as she hissed in a mix of terror and fury. She thrust her head through the bird's ferocious wings and found leverage to tear at the beast's feathers, tearing it off of Cedarpaw and shaking it by the shoulder. When she flung it aside, it began to falter in a thick daze. "On your paws! Get up! You have to keep fighting!" she hollered, pulling Cedarpaw up by the scruff.

Ferretnose used Scruff Shake on the Owl! Owl is stunned for one turn!

Cedarpaw watched as her mother struck the predator, and she ran at it, angrily, pushing it to the ground. The owl tried to retaliate, but it was stunned and couldn’t fight back!

"Alright, you bag of rumpled feathers!" Ferretnose hissed, slashing her paws down on the squacking creature's beak with powerful front paws hooking into the fleshy parts of its face. "Go on, ugly beast! Rat with wings! GIT!"

Ferretnose huffed, stumbling back and landing on her haunches as the bird panicked, weakened by the two she-cats, and flew away. "These birds get more and more testy with me every time. What a waste of talons, flying off after one little scrape. Ha! You showed that thing what-for, Cedarpaw."

Cedarpaw watched her mother strike it and watched it fly away. Turning back to Ferretnose, she giggled. ”I have a feeling that it won’t be coming back for a while!” she said, watching the figure slowly disappear. After that, she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do. Her fluffy tail flicked. ”Do you want to keep hunting or...” she asked. The sun felt warm on her pelt, and honestly, she was enjoying herself.
