Icepaw's Moonstone Journey

The birds were subdued in a way they hadn't been the last few mornings, but the stiff chill the wind carried with it provided the answers for why. While newleaf was slowly creeping its way into the forest again, the harsh talons of leafbare still clung desperately to the ground, especially where the sun didn't shine as fully. Mossbloom shuddered in the chilly morning as she thought of how ShadowClan must feel, under the tall trees that little light fell through. Although, Flintfang had once chosen to leave to stay under those trees, so maybe it wasn't as bad as she thought? Shaking her head slightly as she finished gathering the necessary herbs, the thought disappeared. She loved the feeling of the sun on her back far too much. And besides, Flintfang had made his choice long ago. Taking the time to compose herself, she ate her herbs before fetching the apprentice who would accompany her on this journey today, Icepaw, and thought the herbs tasted more bitter than usual. Mixing a tiny bit of honey into Icepaw's herbs, she left her den to head for the apprentice's. Pushing her way in silently, she found Icepaw's pelt among the others and gently nudged her awake. Setting the herbs down, she mewed quietly. "Come, Icepaw, today is the day! Are you ready for the adventure we have before us?" 


She lowered her head to pick up the herbs once more and backed out of the den, careful not to brush against any of the other apprentices. The trip would keep them warm, no doubt... But she did hope that the sun would warm the forest before too long.

Icepawbwoke when the medicine cat awoke her. She was a light sleeper. She padded out of the apprentice den and breathed in the air. It smelt wonderful and the warm sun was great. She groggily stepped over the sleeping apprentices. “This is going to be fun! Should I eat those herbs?” icepaw has seen many others eat herbs upon their moonstone journey. She hoped that she would get to see things and parts of the territory she had never noticed before. The sun guaranteed warm travels and she was glad for it.

No matter how much icepaw loves the snow she also liked the warmth of the spring. Icepaw are the herbs and stood beside mossbloom, waiting for her orders on what to do next.

Icepaw grinned and followed the medicine cat. She walked to the stream and took a few long laps. Then nodded to mossbloom. “I’m ready to go!” icepaw said eccentrically. She was jittering from excitment and ready to go to the moonstone. Wondering who she was going to see.

Mossbloom purred as the younger she-cat announced that she was ready, and turned her paws towards Fourtrees. As the sun rose higher in the sky, the breeze remained chilly as it ruffled the pairs fur every now and then. They arrived at Fourtrees well before sunhigh, and Mossbloom paused briefly at the edge of the familiar clearing before she padded out towards the middle of it, making her way across towards the higher land of the moors that WindClan considered home. How was Aspenheart faring? And Finchstar, and Raventail? After the comments at the most recent Gathering, she couldn't help but worry if they were alright. Turning to the pale-furred she-cat, she mewed. "So, Icepaw. What do you think of everything that's been going on? Do you have any questions, or concerns? I'll help however I can, to the best of my ability."

“Not that many questions” icepaw purred, “will It hurt in the moonstone, and are the Windclan cats going to hurt us since we’re going through their land? Is starclan still mad?” Icepaw asked all these questions in a matter of minutes, she didn’t seem worried, or stressed, she seemed like herself, but the young she cat stayed strong for her clan, even if she wasn’t on the inside.

Mossbloom led the way into WindClan territory, shaking her head slightly. "No, the Moonstone will not hurt. It's bright when it first lights up, and it's cool to the touch, but it won't hurt you, and neither will StarClan. The WindClan cats are usually very kind, and they wouldn't dare stop a medicine cat accompanying an apprentice. Besides, I know Finchstar, and Raventail too. They'll make sure we're left alone." Mossbloom's answers followed the questions smoothly, hesitating only at the last one as they continued further into WindClan territory. "I... Don't know." The medicine cat admitted. "They may still be mad, but I don't believe their anger is at you, Icepaw. I believe that all will be well with your meeting, and if something comes up you're not sure about, you can talk to me about it, okay?"

Before much longer they were finishing the last bit of the journey through WindClan territory, and climbing up towards the Thunderpath. Looking to the she-cat, Mossbloom gave her a reassuring nod. "Listen for my call, alright? When the path is clear, I'll yowl to you, and I want you to run as fast as you can and don't look back, okay? Run in a straight line, and I'll find you on the far side. The way back will be easier, there's less monsters when it's dark." With that, Mossbloom poised herself at the edge of the Thunderpath, waiting patiently as a brightly-colored monster rushed just past her whiskers. The sound was deafening, but the silence that followed seemed to swell with anticipation as she yowled. "Now!"

Icepaw nodded at mossblooms answers. “Do you think I’ll see smudge?” She asked the medicine cat. Then they got to the thunderpath and she followed instructions from the medicine cat and ran with all her might across the thunderpath. She stopped on the other side to look around for modsbloom.

Icepaw purred ans padded behind the medicine cat to the moonstone and sat down in front of it pressing her nose too it.

Smudgepaw appeared before his friend with a smile. He has been watching her even after he died and he couldn’t have been more happier. “hello Icepaw.” he mewed as her eyes focused on him.

Icepaw looked at him longingly she missed the white and black Tom. “Smudgepaw!” Her purr was gentle and quite sad. “Is there anything wrong?”

He shook his head with a laugh. “Everything is fine, I do miss cedarpaw but I know she can move on with time. I have seen how my death has effected you and I just want to say you should never be sad. Instead be happy for the great times that we had, like when we tried to sneak out of camp.” he mewed with a sparkle in his eyes.

Icepaw nodded. She looked relieved and happy. “How is it in star clan?” She asked precariously she was curious, Wanting to know.

“It is good.” he said before disappearing as she started to wake up.
