Viperkit’s Apprentice Ceremony

Ravenmist hopped up the rock, turning sightless eyes on the clearing. Another kit moving up today, another apprentice to aid the Clan. It was little Viperkit’s turn, and though the deputy hadn’t interacted with the kit much directly, if she was anything like her mother she would be a great aid to the clan, if her temper could be kept in check. She’d want a patient mentor, one who would be careful to teach her in a way that would keep her from shutting down. A bird’s call overhead made her snap out of it, and she called out.

“Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Jaggedrock for a Clan meeting.”

Viperkit knew that the summons now meant her, and she padded carefully up to sit in front of the Jaggedrock and Ravenmist. She had groomed herself thoroughly, but there was only so much that could be done with all of her fluffy fur. She wished it was sleeker, but most of her family looked like the cat version of a cloud. She figured she looked neat enough, though. She did wish her mother was still alive to see this day, and perhaps to have given her a helping paw getting ready, but she was not so lucky. Although she tried to look dignified, her green eyes gleamed with excitement and pride. She was going to be an apprentice!

Ravenmist turned her head towards the crowd, picking out Viperkit's location and allowing her blind gaze to settle on the young molly as best she could. She paused for a moment, collecting the right words. "Viperkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Viperpaw." She had an idea in mind for a mentor, one patient and kind enough to teach Viperpaw, and one who she thought well deserved one. Perhaps it could be a small way of making herself feel less guilty about Flintstar's choice in deputyship. Two birds with one swipe.

"Your mentor will be Daisyflame. I trust he will pass down all he knows to you. Daisyflame, I know she'll be in good paws. Your loyalty and kindness are unmatched." She wanted to say more, but she figured her mate wouldn't appreciate her calling him out like that in front of the entire Clan. So, she padded down from the stone, a smle on her maw as she chanted out the new apprentice's name. "Viperpaw! Viperpaw!"

Padding up to his new apprentice, Daisyflame purred at his mate's words before leaning down and touching his nose with the newly named Viperpaw. "I look forward to training with you," the fluffy white and ginger tom mewed with a smile on his maw.

Viperpaw's fluffy tail waved in excitement as she touched noses with her mentor. "So do I!" She coughed, attempting to regain some semblance of composure, "I mean. When can we start?"
