She smiles at him and licks a piece of snow from his fur. “If it makes you feel better I haven’t seen new-leaf nor green leaf.” She looks at coalkit, knowing how he feels. “Soon enough it’ll be new-leaf!”

Coalkit glanced at Icepaw and realized she was right, she also hadn't experienced any of the warmer seasons, having grown up in leaf-fall and then began training in leaf-bare. He flicked his ears as she licked them, tickling them slightly and he sighed, glancing up at the sky. "What do you think it's like?" He asked thoughtfully. "I've heard stories from my mother and the older apprentices that it's really nice and prey is plentiful, that no one goes with an empty stomach ever."

“I think that we’ll see it soon enough, and you’ll be an apprentice. So we can go hunting and bring back food for our strong and healthy clan. No matter how much snow there is now, New-Leaf, and Green-Leaf will strengthen Thunderclan and we’re going to see it happen. Her eyes had hope in them. She knew coalkit would one day make a great warrior, and he would soon realize it once he became an apprentice.

She licked more ice from his fur. His mother wouldn’t be pleased if he went back covered in snow.
