Smudgekit's Apprentice Ceremony

OOC: Due to out-of-character reasons, Ferretnose is stepping in for a couple of apprentice ceremonies over the next few days. In character, Houndheart is under the weather.

Another kit, ready to rise in the ranks of the clan. What a delight! Being a queen, Ferretnose was very acquainted with the soon-to-be apprentices. Smudgekit was a nervous creature, and she believed Houndheart had selected a mentor who would do just fine bringing the poor thing out of his shell. "Cats of ThunderClan!" she chirped, "Come gather for a clan meeting!"

Smudgekit slowly padded out of the nursery looking at his paws. He could feel eyes on him and it made him scared. As the kit walked to the gathered cats smudge took a moment to look for his friends. Once he found them he sat down and looked up at the leader but didn’t make eye contact.

Ferretnose smiled and waved her tail in greeting to Smudgekit. "Smudgekit!" she cheered. "You have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Smudgepaw."

Her good eye scanned the clearing, seeking out the familiar face she knew was hiding among the mass. The older warrior's scarred pelt shone against the sun. Ferretnose winked. "Smudgepaw, your mentor will be Dustcloud. She's a fantastic warrior with a kind soul. I hope she passes on all of her best traits onto you." The queen hopped down from the Highrock rather bashfully, purring in Dustcloud's direction. She deserved an apprentice that she could relate to, and Smudgepaw in the same way. Oh, how they grew.

Smudgepaw stood up and went to touch noses with dust cloud.
