Progress Takes Patience

Today, Ivybrook and her Clanmates were going to try something new.

Sparring was something that the silver deputy hadn't done since her days as an apprentice, and only against her mentor. She figured that now was as good of a time as ever, so she'd asked her good friend Honeytongue and Stormbringer along on a trip to the Beech Copse to give it a good test run. She hoped that perhaps if it went well, it was something that she might be able to introduce to the apprentices so that they could practice with someone much closer to their skill level.

Both of the she-cats trailed behind her, and when they finally reached the small clearing she turned around to face them. "Whenever you're both ready, we can begin." She looked from Honeytongue to Stormbringer, waiting to make sure that they were prepared.

Stormbringer was a bit surprised to do a sparring session with her clan mate for it wasn't something she normally did, but she couldn't turn down the deputy's offer. She quickly followed the other two outside of the camp and too the Beech Copse. A good place for training. Hopefully they were both able to learn something from fighting each other and help out apprentice's later.

Facing Honeytongue, the gray warrior stared at her friend for a second, a playful gleam appearing in the younger warrior's eyes. "Here I come." She warned before she dashed forward, an attack coming for Honeytongue, with no claws of course.

Was it odd to be existed to fight one of her Clanmates? Honeytongue's eyes glimmered as she followed after Ivybrook and Stormbringer, tail swishing as they came to a halt in the wide-open clearing. It had been a surprise when the deputy had revealed her plans for a slightly different type of training but Honeytongue couldn't have turned it down, not with it granted her the opportunity to hang out with both of them! She shifted on her paws as Ivybrook turned and spoke, granting them permission to start the spar. With an eager nod, Honeytongue turned to face Stormbringer, face lighting up at the gleam in her friend's eyes, a happy and playful look.

It had been far to long since she had gotten to do a playful romp like this, bringing back memories of when she would brawl with her siblings. The thought of them sent a slight flicker of sadness through her, suddenly reminded that they were gone...But her thoughts where thankfully stolen by Stormbringer speaking up, snapping her to attention as the warrior darted forward. Her eyes widen as she leap backwards, a soft laugh escaping as she slide her sleek body to the side as she swiped with her paw at her friend. "Going to have to be faster then that!" she teased with a playful smirk.

Honeytongue used Dodge and Fight, costing 15 stamina and negating the last attack's damage. Honeytongue succeeded to counterattack, dealing 6 damage to Stormbringer.

Nodding her head when Stormbringer began, Ivybrook watched carefully as the two of them took turns, making notes of their movements. "Excellent, both of you. Next time, Stormbringer, don't warn your opponent." Ivybrook had the smallest playful smirk dancing on her maw, and what might have been interpreted as a wink directed towards the she-cats. "Now, both of you can work together." Leaping towards Stormbringer, Ivybrook landed squarely on her shoulders."Against me." Hanging on without the use of her claws would be difficult, but she could manage.

Ivybrook used Leap-and-Hold on Stormbringer, dealing -14 Health Points and using -10 Stamina Points. Stormbringer is pinned for 1 turn.

A good nature growl escaped Stormbringer. A protest dying in her throat as soon as Ivybrooks pinned her. That wasn't fair! It was supposed to be just a spar! The gray warrior let out a Huff as she silently pouted from being pinned.

The warrior was just about to accept being pinned before she remembered aove she had seen other warriors use before. Quickly Stormbringer ducked and twisted out of the deputy's grasp.

Honeytongue had been preparing to make a leap toward Stormbringer, listening to the deputy before she hesitated at her words. Wait...What? Movement flickered in the corner of her vision - Ivybrook moving into motion and leapt backwards but the target was not her. She watched as the deputy skillfully landed on Stormbringer's shoulders, only lasting for a few heartbeats before her friend managed to wiggle free. "Two on one? That is hardly fair for you, Ivybrook," Honeytongue teased with a grin, before dropping into a crouch. "But if you say so - lets show her what we can do, Stormbringer!" she called out as she threw her weight forward, leaping and tackling the deputy, rolling her across the beech copse before she broke away with a careful gaze to see how Ivybrook was going to fight back.

Honeytongue used Jumping Strike on Ivybrook, dealing 12 damage and costing 20 stamina.

"I'll be just fine!" She called out, grunting at the effort of scrambling back to her paws. She knew pretty well how this was going to end, but if it boosted the morale of her Clanmates, and helped them learn... She was fine with it.

Rearing up on her hind legs, she aimed for Stormbringer once again. With sheathed claws, of course, she used both paws to quickly give herself a bit of an advantage, trying her best to come out on top.

Ivybrook used Rending Front Paws, dealing -17 Health Points and using -25 Stamina Points.

Jeez.. Despite this being for fun and practice, the strength of the Riverclan deputy was clear. It would only take a few more hits before Stormbringer would have to tap out of this sparring match. She took a step back for a second to get a better grasp on the situation before moving back in. Once she was within range the gray warrior reared up, slashing her paws at the deputy, hoping her move would have some effect. Sparring felt strange to her but she was having fun with it.

Honeytongue was feeling fine - she hadn't managed to get hit once so far and felt full of energy as she ducked away from the deputy to give Stormbringer an opportunity to strike. She huffed as she realized that Ivybrook looked determined to wear her friend out first, which did make sense. Easier to wear down one quicker than to deal with having her attention split between both. She could make the most out of it, thought. She grinned softly as she darted forward, battering the deputy with her paws before shifting out of the way. If Stormbringer was going to be the focus, then she could serve as a great annoyance until she got the deputy's attention. Her friend's sacrifice in this spar would not be in vain.

Grinning as both warriors seemed to be enjoying the sparring match, Ivybrook just barely managed to slip out of Stormbringer's way. The she-cat moved an intelligent move, and if she wasn't quick enough to dodge it would have done some real damage. Using the opportunity to her own benefit, Ivybrook made the quick decision to bat at her with her paws, being sure to sheath her claws. "That was a nice try, Stormbringer!" Honeytongue's paws were indeed becoming a hindrance to the deputy, but soon enough she'd be able to focus on her... Then she'd have this match in the bag, for sure.

Ivybrook used Dodge-and-Fight, reversing the -13 damage done by Stormbringer and using -15 Stamina Points. Counterattack successful, -8 damage to Stormbringer.

Stormbringer let out a growl of frustration. It just seemed like the deputy was playing with her at this point and she didn't like it. It was making her feel like a whiney apprentice all over again. The blue gray warrior certainly didn't like it but at the same time she knew this was all in good fun, and it was meant to be a learning experience.

She let out a huff to calm herself, before moving in to attack again. She knew that she didn't have much left in her, and she knew the deputy could probably take her out of this fake fight with another move but she also wasn't going to give up right now either. She would go until she couldn't anymore. She decided to do the same move the deputy did to her not too long ago.

While Stormbringer might not have been having the best time, Honeytongue was having a blast as she circled around the pair. Her ears were perked, eyes searching for an opening. She could see her friend starting to slow, the energy draining from her from blow after blow. She spared Stormbringer a soft look, a slight apologize for not taking a single hit yet but she knew that she was going to be in quite the spar once Ivybrook's attention shifted onto her. But...She had faith, she was certain that she could maybe bring this around. With a soft huff, she darted forward and batted at Ivybrook's side before she hopped away, staying on the move as she waited to make her next attack.
