Sorrowful Stalking (closed)

Leaftwirl was gone, for real this time, and Sunflower didn't know how to feel. He couldn't possibly stay mad at his former mate for leaving the clan, not after she returned and sacrificed herself in battle... But even so, that didn't exactly help him find any solace in her dying for them. If he thought long and hard about it, he truly had no clue what the she-cat's motives had been, but all he knew is that she had most likely found her happiness. He wished such a dream didn't have to come from death, but there wasn't anything the lanky warrior could do now about it.

After winning the battle against ShadowClan, the amount of border patrols had been doubled, which also meant that hunting was to be increased as well. With Wolfcall having been assigned to a different patrol earlier that day, and his own apprentices running about the camp doing their daily chores, Sunflower had been given the task to take Oakpaw out on a hunting patrol before it got too cold and dark. To the short pelted tom, every part of the day during Leafbare was cold, but he somehow found himself able to manage, though only through an ungodly amount of shivering and chattering of his teeth.

Having woke the young she-cat up, the abnormally tall warrior stood by the camp entrance, waiting for her arrival. Hopefully, they would be able to return to their nests in a timely fashion, before his tail froze off.

Oakpaw came trotting up and she looked Sunflower over and there was a purr of concern that rose from her. "Sunflower, are you sure you can go out in this cold right now?" she asked, gently pressing her nose to his flank to check how warm he was. The concern was obvious in her eyes as she looked him up and down. "I doubt Wolfcall would be upset if you couldn't take me hunting with how cold it is," she adds as she stood and awaited the tom's response.

Somewhat startled from her sudden appearance, Sunflower shifted his paws against the snow when she asked about his well being, obviously concerned about him and his pathetically short pelt. "I-I'll be alright," he stuttered through chattering teeth. He'd lived through a Leaffall before, so why did this one seem that much colder?

Giving the she-cat a nod of agreement, his titled his head towards the camp entrance, signalling that they should probably get going, and with that, the two left the shelter of the camp and began their journey into the forest. He didn't really know where they were going, but prey had been spotted in numerous areas around the territory recently, so it hopefully wouldn't matter too much where they ended up.
