Sneaking Silently in The Shade(paw)

As much as Shadepaw knew she wasn't allowed outside camp until her 'mentor' allowed her she sneakily padded through the exit, once she was out she breathed in the fresh scents of the forest, it felt so nice to be out in what could be called the open but is actually just a bunch of trees shoved together. She padded through the undergrowth, excited and ready. She sat down and noticed something sparkling along with a fresh scent. She slowly moved forward and spotted a pool, she peered into it and couldn't stopped a quiet purr from exiting her throat as she breathed in the scent, but now there was something new, a green shape flashed before her, leaping past her eyes, shocked, she jumped back, then felt embarrassed as she saw it was just a frog. ~I was afraid of... food?!~ She thought angrily but shortly after she realised she spoke aloud "I hope no-one heard that." She whispered.

"Gotcha!" Rowanpaw caterwauled as she pounced onto the frog, essentially crushing it beneath her paws as she landed on top of it. She looked tremendously proud of herself as she looked up to meet Shadepaw's eyes. She'd been so single-mindedly following the hopping creature, she'd failed to notice her fellow apprentice. "Ooft, hope you weren't hunting that!"

The frog squelched uncomfortably as she got off it's flat corpse, she batted it aside and roughly covered it in the thick, moist leaf litter for later. She wasn't a huge fan of frogs personally, but someone was probably into that. Maybe she could convince a kit to take a bite, it was always funny watching them freak at the slime. But that was thoughts for later. She had company. "Wanna hunt together? Or chase a crow? Camp is boring during the day, everyone is sleeping."

Shadepaw jumped, then shook her head "no, I was watching, it actually startled me, not as much as you did, I'm feeling incredibly jumpy ever since I joined Shadowclan, I mean, it's like I saw it coming, that's why I didn't want to join!" She joked with a nervous laugh. "I know right! The guards were half asleep! Anyway, maybe I'll hunt later, I just want to have some alone time now, unless you want to stay and talk."

"Stay and talk? Why not. Do you have something to share? A crush, maybe?" Rowanpaw teased, her whiskers wiggling as she pressed closer to the other apprentice with glee. Personally, she was disinterested in the toms of ShadowClan, most of them were like her brothers. She couldn't imagine settling down with one of them, they were all so wimpy. She could take them in a fight any day.

"What?" She purred "of course not! The apprentices are either my brothers or atleast related to me in some way." She poked her tongue out "I know one cat from another clan and they're a she-cat, plus that'd break the code. She nudged the apprentice "why'd you ask? Afraid I might steal your crush?"

"Same, everyone is related to me too. I'd only choose a mate from my clan so I guess we're both going to be single forever." Rowanpaw dramatically fell over onto her fellow apprentice. She purred with laughter as she got back onto her paws, shaking off the debris that clung to her belly fur. "What do you want to talk about then? Everything okay?"

"Oh ya know... I hoped you had a topic to talk about." She purred. She dipped her paw into the water, kind of liking the coolness, just as long as her whole body doesn't have to go in there. "I don't want to be single forever, I want kits, my kits, kit's with my blood." She flicked up water, some drops hit the two she-cats in the face and breaking away from the seriousness she started giggling.

Wrinkling her nose at the water, Rowanpaw leapt back in the air like she'd been touched by fire, not water. Shaking what few drops landed on her, she splashed Shadepaw back, hissing in disgust at how the cool water clung to her pelt. She was quite vigorous in shaking it off. "If everyone is related to us, and taking a mate outside our clan is forbidden, how could you have kits? I guess you could wait for a loner to join us. Hm, I don't think I'd want a tom to be my mate, they're all noisy, and well... Toms."

"What and you'd prefer a badger?" Shadepaw shook the droplets off and started laughing "sorry, but your reaction was hilarious!" She giggled, then she calmed down a bit "but honestly, yeah toms would probably be crazy, but it's the kits I want, ya only have to stay with them until you have the kits Rowanpaw. You know Thornstar kept Sans out of the nursery... I wonder why." She thought of a little theory in her head "maybe Thornstar thought he was too punny!"

"I'd rather share my nest with a badger than a tom. At least a badger wouldn't talk over me." Rowanpaw meowed rather grumpily, though her ears perked up (even despite the shower of water) at the idea of just having kits without getting together with a mate. "I'd do the same if I was Thornstar, I don't like Sans' eyes. They're kinda creepy, one being yellow and the other blue. Hm, though I guess that's true, Shadepaw. We don't have to kept with one mate, we could just have kits with them and move on... Shadepaw, when we're warriors, I hope we become queens together. That way, our kits could be best friends!"

Shadepaw smiled "I'm glad I could find a friend." She purred "ya know, someone to talk to..." She lays down on the mushy grass, the sun warmed her side and she liked it. "Rowanpaw, do you like relaxing? Laying down and getting comfortable?" She sighed.

"I'm usually too wound up to relax, but it's been a busy morning. I could do with a nap." Rowanpaw collapsed next to her clanmate, licking Shadepaw's pelt to get the mud off. The sun was nice, and without a warrior to boss them around, it was peaceful. "How far are you from getting your warrior name?"

"Pretty far, you do know Scorchstar was my mentor right?" She meowed softly "and you know what happened to him..." She went quieter, only to go loud again "I can't be left forever without a mentor. Thornstar's gonna give me a new one soon."

"Don't worry too much about it, my mentor, Tansyheart, hasn't taken me out once. Lynxscar taught me everything. You're not missing out." Rowanpaw reassured her fellow apprentice, licking Shadepaw's fur into place. She wasn't too torn up about Scorchstar personally, she barely knew the leader, the sadness she felt was distant, like what one felt for when they saw a loner splattered by a monster near the Thunderpath.
