Salamander smirked slightly when Daisyflame announced that the two apprentices can start hunting themselves. Finally, something he was somewhat good at! He loved catching little leaves when he was a kit or pouncing on his siblings. Night was always the best hunter... No. Better not to think of such when something was going right for once.
He walked a short distance from his peers so he could look for prey without them stepping all over his tail. At first, it didn't look like anything was around. He checked again. A fat, warty toad was sleeping under a bush nearby. Perfect. While the calico wasn't educated on the habits of toads, he was pretty sure they couldn't see cats coming up while they sleep. Getting into a (rather lopsided) hunting crouch, he slowly crept up onto the amphibian, waiting for the moment to strike.

Despite Salamander's lopsided form, he miraculously got within pouncing range. The toad didn't even open an eye to the approaching cat, and only awoke when teeth hit it's neck. He killed it in the first way he thought of- a brutal, instinctive crunch to the neck that left blood splattering down his muzzle. Even though he used the wrong form, the Burnt child was still excited. His first true kill! He grabbed it in his mouth (ignoring the disgusting texture of warty, slimy skin) and brought it back to the others, showing quite a bit of pride at his freshkill.
