Mistyrain followed SkyClan into the Gathering, doing her best not to dwell on what had happened with Maplepaw. She hung back from where the deputies normally gathered, chatting offhandedly with a few other warriors for a few moments,

Heronflight trotted to the gathering, the aging but still strong warrior gazing at the gathered cats.

Larkfeather padded towards Heronflight and chose to sit down next to his dad.

Acornfall felt uneasy after Maplepaw’s exile. She couldn’t comprehend why the she-cat would want to leave SkyClan. For Acornfall, SkyClan was her home, and was the last bit of family she had left. She would never leave, but perhaps she matured faster than Maplepaw did. After all, she was broken down bit by bit before she was forced to be strong to emotionally take care of herself. Maplepaw wasn’t able to learn that quickly enough, the ginger warrior realized. Acornfall knew that Maplepaw would have a rough time out of SkyClan, and the young appre-rogue would need to learn how to take care of herself, without a clan to help her.

Mothpaw glanced around again, and finally spotted a familiar face that didn't seem too occupied. She ran over, apparently enough time having passed since the incident at her first medicine cat meeting to be forgotten, without stopping. As a result, she crashed directly into Copperheart. At least this time she was quick to get off of him. "Sorry! I saw you and I wanted to say hi, 'cause everyone else seems kinda busy-- How are you? It's good to see you! And everyone, you know, it's been a while--"

Eventually, though, she forced herself to stop rambling. It was just really nice to see and speak to her friends again, could anyone blame her for her excitement?

His eyes started to lid shut. StarClan, why couldn't he be this tired all the time at night? Would sure do him some good to get more sleep. Copperheart had gotten so used to the routine of falling asleep this quickly once every moon, he wasn't prepared to stay awake longer than he usually would. Not without something inducing excitement.

As if his prayers had been begrudgingly answered, the ThunderClan tom was suddenly bowled over, letting out a large huff as the air was knocked out of him.

"Sorry! I saw you and I wanted to say hi, 'cause everyone else seems kinda busy-- How are you? It's good to see you! And everyone, you know, it's been a while--"

Copperheart's tired eyes peeked open to see what had caused the ruckus before his pupils widened as he recognized who the familiar face was, grinning up at his 'opponent.' "The Magnificent Mothpaw! It's been too long." The curly-haired tom stood up slowly, shaking his pelt of any dust he had gotten from the short tumble. He chuckled as the dark she-cat rambled, making sure to respond to everything. "That was certainly one way of greeting me! I'm doing well, and it's magnificent to see you as well. What's new? I haven't exactly attended the last few Gatherings. So many moons..."

He pushed her away because he was afraid.

Thornbriar lifted her head as she stared down at the apprentice. She couldn't say she didn't understand the tom's feelings to an extent. After all, moons ago she'd been doing roughly the same thing. She recalled how her clanmates had recoiled at the sight of her after she'd lost her brother... how it felt without him there.

Back then apprentices were dying left and right.

She'd taken to lashing out at everyone around her, snarling and snapping insults to anyone who stared too long. It was win-win. They started avoiding her and she didn't have to deal with the stares and whispers... and she didn't have to worry about someone getting too close and being torn away from her by a badger.

She'd begun to embody the very name her mother had bestowed upon her.

The deputy said nothing as Jaystar's call reached her ears. She stared at the quivering tom at her paws for a long moment before turning and padding away from him. She'd gotten what she came for... now it was time to get the formalities out of the way.

She approached the great rock with a purposeful stride, her gaze meeting Scorchclaw's as she approached. She nodded to him, almost imperceptibly before leaping up to join the leaders upon the rock. Her paws met stone with a heavy thump, those claws she couldn't ever quite fully retract scraping ever so slightly against the surface that had been polished by the steps of countless generations of leaders.

And now, she tread upon the same rock.

She pushed the thought from her mind as quickly as it had arrived. She was no leader. She wasn't even sure why Scorchstar bothered choosing her as deputy for Magpiestar's sake. For all she knew it was because she was the most survivable warrior in the clan at the moment... considering the fates of predecessors, it was a strong possibility. Taking the place of Scorchstar atop the rock, she met Jaystar's gaze with a cool stare of her own.

Really, he had no room to talk about holding up a gathering.

"You certainly had all night to discuss your... special relationship with your medicine cat, Jaystar. I don't think a few moments is going to hold things up too much." She retorted, her voice low enough that it wouldn't reach the crowd below but clear enough that every cat perched on the rock around them could. Normally she would have kept her jaws shut, but with everything that was going on...

She didn't see herself being deputy for long, to say the least. Eventually Scorchstar would come to his senses and appoint someone like Daisyflame or Tansyheart. He didn't trust her, he just didn't care anymore about what happened with Shadowclan. He'd made that much blatantly clear.

She wasn't here to make friends.

She was here to get this StarClan forgive us formality out of the way.

Wasppaw watched the apprentice actually perk up at her words with mild amusement. It wasn't exactly a lie. Since Softnose had died, Scorchclaw had basically acted as her father. He did his best... and while she'd never admit it, she really did appreciate it. It was more than enough...

But it didn't change the fact that her real mom and dad were gone... Brookpaw as well.

Wasppaw imagined that if she hadn't gone on that patrol to lead the cats trapped in highstones back home, maybe she'd have been able to move past it all... maybe she'd have been able to recover, accept Scorchclaw and Dappleshine as her family and become a true warrior. But she had gone on that patrol. She had fought those dogs...

She had watched her mother die.

A shadow flickered over her cool blue gaze and she looked down at her paws. She'd never truly move on from it all... would she? The events following the flood had been a nightmare... from finding Brookpaw's broken, swollen body, to having to walk beside Flurryshine as she dragged the stiff, rotting corpses of Dappleshine's parents everywhere. Visions of it all... the injured, the dying, and the already dead plagued her mind at night, followed by her mother's death.

She was on the verge of giving up, just to make it all stop.

The sound of paws shifting impatiently beside her slammed Wasppaw back to the present, her eyes refocusing in an instant as she remembered where she was. She was okay... she'd be alright. She wasn't there anymore... but the phantom scent of rot still lingered in her nose.

"I-I um... No one wants to talk to me." She lied quickly, hoping the young kit wouldn't question it.

It's not as if it were exactly untrue per say.

Minkpaw padded in to the clearing, an odd feeling of determination in his paws. This was it, this was the night. Tonight, everything would come together to form the beginning of something... different... something new. For a moment, as his Clanmates all spread out around him, he stood, watching the cats around him with ears pricked. She has to be here somewhere.... Then his eyes lit upon the black pelt, and he moved forwards, a smile breaking over his face as he wove between others coming and going.

"Batbite!" He purred in greeting. An energy in his paws, he gave her a sly glance, mischief twinkling in his eyes. "I hear there's a rumour some apprentices should know about."

The leader's fur bristled at the boldness of the she-cat but he kept his expression serious and harsh. Jaystar looked into her eyes with deep intensity and before he could start the gathering, he a few last words with her. "And you certainly don't have the right to be disrespecting the dead ones. Goldeneye has died, to your information, and, if you wanna talk about doubtful relationships, maybe you should look up after your leader who turned to be a fine deputy despite his past with one of my clanmates... unlike someone here" Maybe it was the age, the tensions or the fact that he hated irresponsible cats but Jaystar was way more grumpy than usual. He didn't have the energy to deal with bold, disrespectful young cats who got lucky in getting a high rank like Thornbriar.

The Riverclan leader stood up and gave a quick look at each representative to start the Gathering. "Now that we are all here, let the Gathering begin!" He yowled, asking for a little silence of each cat. "Riverclan has been fairing well, with plenty of food and new acquisitions to the clan. Both Addershade and Ivybrook had received their warrior's names. On the nursery, Dappleshine has given birth to Dacekit, who will be soon be named an apprentice and a newer litter of four has been welcomed in the past days, fathered by Scorchclaw. Stormkit has also joined the nursery and soon, Riverclan will have a bunch of new apprentices and hopefully, new warriors as well to mentor them." Truth to be told, his clan was really going to grow up for these new additions to the clan and if Starclan was merciful, they would all grow to be amazing cats. "On other news, the Shadowclan cats who were exiled by Stagclan were sheltered in my camp and working side by side with Scorchstar, we reclaimed Shadowclan's lands and Stagclan was dismantled with no leader to follow."

Oakstar chuckled at Raventail’s obvious concern over his misnaming, giving the black tom a friendly smile before his attention turned to Thornbriar as she finished intimidating the poor apprentice, his ears flicking back in distaste as she reprimanded Jaystar. His amber eyes narrowed, but Jaystar began his announcements before Oakstar could say anything. Which, was a good thing he supposed. He paused, taking a deep breath. If Thornbriar was going to become ShadowClan’s next leader, then that simply was it. He could only hope that Scorchstar was alright as he waited with patience for the other leader to finish.

He took a breath and stepped forward with confidence to relay the news he hated to do so. He glanced down to the crowd, puzzled at Leopardclaw’s seeming disappearance when he noticed a golden flash beneath some ferns. He looked away to prevent attention from being drawn as he began.
"ThunderClan has not fared so well this moon" He meowed, his posture straightening with the familiar confidence that StarClan had gifted him. Now was no time to be hesitant, or to show weakness. "Due to unforeseen circumstances, Leopardclaw has retired from leadership. He has rejoined the ranks of ThunderClan’s warriors." He flicked his tail towards the base of the great rock. "StarClan has seen fit to change my name to Oakstar. Beartooth, has been named as my deputy." He paused, giving the gathering a moment to process his words.

Pressing on with the more unsavoury topic at paw.
"We have also met with one more misfortune. As some of you may be aware, we had to exile Ridgelight of ThunderClan. Her crime was an abhorrent desecration of the warrior code. Ignoring the safety and security of the clan, she kitted outside of camp, and allowed a fox to kill most of the kits." He closed his eyes briefly as he remembered the scattered and torn nest. The scattered remains… the blood. "Fortunately, one of the kits has survived his mother’s insanity." He looked down at Houndpaw, then towards his own kits. "We have three new apprentices. Houndpaw, Mistpaw and Nettlepaw. We have welcomed the return of Dawnpaw and Harefoot, who were lost in the flood waters many moons ago, and have been gifted two healthy kits. Smokekit and Sparkkit." With the news completed, he stepped back into line with the other leaders. His white tipped tail curled neatly at his paws.

Mosspaw sighed as the apprentice stalked away, shaking her head slightly. Aspenpaw staggered up, and she smiled slightly at him, although exasperation still shone in her eyes. "I'm sorry about that, Houndpaw is... In the process of figuring out who he is. He's a bit lost at the moment, I promise he's not usually that abrasive..." She trailed off slightly as she listened to the two mention Leopardclaw, her face falling slightly. "He got an infection that turned into a severe illness. Pricklebush and I did everything in our power, but.... Well, the disease ending up taking all but one of his lives, so he stepped down from leadership and Marshstorm, now Oakstar, is ThunderClan's leader." She lowered her head regretfully as the leaders started the Gathering, flinching at the word of new kits in the other clans, and when Oakstar announced the circumstances surrounding Ridgelight's exile. Her head turned up to try to meet Finchstar's eyes as he heard it from Oakstar himself before continuing to listen.

Dappleshine and Goldenpaw both sit not too far apart from each other, listening as the leaders announce their news. Dappleshine sits a little straighter as Jaystar announces her kit, casting a quick glance over to Raventail as if trying to apologize - she hadn't been able to tell him before Jaystar announced it due to his seemingly new position.

Batbite purred at the sight of her friend. "Is there, now?" she asked, feigning curiosity. The mischievous sparkle in her eye wouldn't give her away, she knew - she always looked like that. "Would it happen to be the same one I heard recently, by any chance?" She wasn't whispering, her voice instead loud enough to be overheard without being distracting. She was here, after all, to do what she did best - spreading rumors and causing organized chaos.

Glad that Jaystar had begun the gathering before anything more could happen between the ShadowClan substitute and the apprentice, Tinystar waited patiently for the two toms ahead of him to finish their portion of announcements. It seemed as though something was always going on between other cats and Jaystar. Did that tom ever get a break?

Listening as the newly appointed Oakstar spoke, he wondered what the reason was that Leopardstar had retired. Whatever the reason was, he just prayed that it was for the best. With the ThunderClan leader concluding his warning about some exile, the little legged tom stepped up to the front of Greatrock, ready to get his speaking over with.

"SkyClan has been fairing well during this past moon and prey runs abundant. Burningsun, Leaftwirl, Lightfang, Sandblaze, and Swallowflight have gained their warrior names, and Beanpaw and Littlepaw have all joined the apprentices in the apprentice den. The clan has also been blessed with even more growth, as Flowerkit and Foxkit are our newest members. That is all," with that, the small leader stepped back and took his place back among the row of leaders, plus a deputy. Hopefully, the gathering would end sooner rather than later so they could all go home. He didn't bother mentioning Maplepaw's exile, seeing as though she wasn't necessarily a threat, unlike that Ridgelight cat, and he wasn't in the mood to spare any more words than needed anyway.

Watching as his father spoke, Sunflower wondered why he didn't mention Maplepaw. Maybe it was a sign of weakness, seeing as though they'd lost a member of the clan, though for an understandable reason. Whatever his father's decision was, he knew it was the right one. He knew Maplepaw wouldn't be causing any trouble and prayed that the dangerous ThunderClan she-cat wouldn't bother any of the clans while on the loose.

Jaystar's words drew the fur on Thornbriar's hackles up into a bristle, but she didn't say anything more. Since he formally started the gathering before she had a moment to take him down a notch, she simply held her tongue and allowed the tip of her tail to flick lightly in irritation. He knew nothing about what their clan was dealing with right now, and what she herself had suddenly had thrust upon her. It was absolutely none of his business anyway. Allies or not, Jaystar didn't impress her in the slightest. She didn't plan on interrupting his announcement anyway. It he thought getting the last word in would make him look better, that wasn't her problem.

Marshstorm, now Oakstar stepped forward after. She hadn't missed the look the tom shot her, but she also didn't bother commenting on it either. His words were grim as he elaborated on the warning Mosspaw had delivered at the Riverclan camp days prior. The calico hadn't gone into detail that day...

It made sense now as to why.

The thought that some twisted queen like that existed drew the newly appointed deputy to flex her claws. Ridgelight hadn't deserved those kits...

The molly better hope that she doesn't find herself in Shadowclan territory.

Tinystar came next, but Thornbriar hardly payed him any mind. His announcement was hardly worth her attention, and by now she was growing more and more impatient. She wanted this done already. As soon as the runty Skyclan leader stepped back and returned to his place beside the others, Thornbriar got to her paws with a scowl.

Time to get this over with.

Approaching the edge, she noticed the cats below her seemed so small from atop the Great Rock. Smaller than they seemed from atop Jaggedrock... She wasn't a fan of it.

The clan cats below looked up at her with barely restrained confusion. She didn't blame them. She was far from Scorchstar or Wildstrike. If she were being honest, she herself was still confused as to why she was here... but that wasn't going to keep her from doing it. Since Scorchstar wanted to pout in his den like a sullen apprentice caught crossing the border, Thornbriar had to step up. Raising her rough voice to carry over the crowd, the heavily scarred deputy spoke.

"I know what you heard and saw last gathering, and it's none of your stargiven business. It's over and done with, and we're here now. Deal with it."

She took a moment to absorb the shocked expressions on the faces of the clans below before turning and taking a seat beside the leaders. Her gaze was turned calmly ahead, but those who looked closer however might actually catch the unspoken dare glowing in the depths of her yellow-green gaze. She almost wished the cats sitting beside her would say something. If they wanted to call her out for her demeanor, she had no problem gathering up Shadowclan and leaving Fourtrees behind tonight.

By next moon, Scorchstar would be able to clean up this mess.

The Gathering's beginning was almost a relief. Until, of course, Raventail remembered his place, and promptly tensed anew beneath his fluffy coat. RiverClan's news was mostly normal: new warriors, new—wait, Dappleshine had kits? Rather, one kit. Raventail's gaze had swept across half of Fourtrees by the time his brain fully understood what that suffix meant; Dacekit wasn't here tonight. When he found Dappleshine again, she was already looking at him, an apology in her expression. "Congratulations," he mouthed, hoping she could guess what he was saying from where she sat. A strange feeling sat high in his chest—like when Grousefrost had begun talking about Vinepaw, with a twinge of something different and unidentifiable beneath it. After how long she'd struggled with Magpiepaw, Dappleshine didn't deserve to be alone.

Jaystar explained that the remnants of ShadowClan had gone to RiverClan, which meant Dappleshine had most likely reunited with her mother. A faint smile pushed its way onto Raventail's face, and some of the tension left his shoulders. He wasn't exactly glad StagClan had fallen; he hadn't trusted them, but he'd understood well enough that he might have gone with them had he been a slightly different cat. Still, he was glad ShadowClan had survived.

Then ThunderClan's leader stepped up. Oakstar. Huh. At least Raventail would've been wrong either way. His relief over this knowledge didn't linger, as Leopardclaw's stepping down and Beartooth's promotion weren't the only things Oakstar mentioned. In the most somber tone Raventail had ever heard at a Gathering, he spoke of Ridgelight's exile. Hesitant as Raventail was to pass judgment on a she-cat he'd never met, the facts lay before him: Whether she'd run from the fox in the heat of battle or had intentionally left her kits to its jaws, Ridgelight was a coward. On its own, that trait was forgivable—not every cat in the forest could be brave; even the ones who acted the part surely faltered now and again—but her actions had gotten nearly an entire litter killed. Maybe it was his recent experience with Vinepaw and Baypaw, maybe it was knowing his friends had kits of their own; either way, Raventail's stomach turned. Maybe she had a reason. Awful as it was, he wanted to believe she did...to believe that no cat would leave a litter to fend for themselves before they'd even opened their eyes.

SkyClan's leader spoke (Leaftwirl! He'd been right after all, she was a warrior now!), then ShadowClan's, except this she-cat wasn't Scorchstar, either. A new deputy like him and Beartooth, or...? Whatever her position, she seemed to have no problems ignoring tradition; ShadowClan was here again, she said, and that was all that mattered. Raventail covered his mouth with a paw to muffle a burst of laughter. In a weird way, it was comforting to hear someone on the Great Rock speak so bluntly after the three prior leaders' ordinary announcements. Maybe he shouldn't have worried about this after all.

Mothpaw looked up from her conversation as the Gathering properly began, the leaders starting to speak. Seeing Thornbriar, who she'd come to think of as her mother since their time at the lake, representing ShadowClan in place of her father... It made her both sad and happy at the same time.

Any thoughts she had to spare for Scorchstar, though, were pushed away as Jaystar announced RiverClan's recent events. She tuned them out for the most part, she was there for part of it and that was the only part she really cared about. ThunderClan's new leader - Oakstar - announced that they'd exiled a warrior for an absolutely reprehensible crime, and Mothpaw felt sick just listening to him describe it. Tinystar's announcement was brief, yes, but it didn't contain anything else that made her feel ill. She didn't really think anything else of it.

And then Thornbriar started to speak, and she was reminded that much like Thornbriar, she was also here to represent ShadowClan. She wondered if part of her duties now included keeping Thornbriar from embarrassing ShadowClan, and realized a moment too late that she'd already failed the first step.

"I know what you heard and saw last gathering, and it's none of your stargiven business. It's over and done with, and we're here now. Deal with it."

Mothpaw wondered if she was expected to clean up this mess. She was probably one of the only cats willing to say things to her face, anyway, and someone would have to... Not now, though, while the Gathering was still going on. Later, when they'd returned to ShadowClan, she'd talk to Thornbriar. Never mind that their last one-on-one conversation had ended in a near-complete breakdown on her part... She wasn't sad or angry now, after all. Just disappointed.

Though Batbite was only half paying attention to the Gathering, she was paying at least that much to it - even if she wouldn't be here much longer, it was good to keep herself informed. ShadowClan's announcement was the only one to truly catch her attention. At least someone here knew what they wanted, even if it was just for everyone else to get their noses out of their business. As usual, though, she tuned out the SkyClan leader's announcement. She'd never cared much for their forest neighbors, and every interaction she had with SkyClan cats seemed to solidify her low opinion of them.

Emberheart, loyal warrior that she was, had always made it her business to pay close attention to the Gathering. So when Jaystar spoke, she fell entirely silent. A small gesture, given that the bustle around her continued, but it helped her pay attention. ShadowClan's representative, it seemed, was quite direct - actually, she recognized her from when she had made the trip with Mosspaw to tell the other Clans of Ridgelight's exile. Though Emberheart herself tended to hold to tradition more than some, she supposed ShadowClan could do worse - this cat, at least, seemed to know what she was doing.

Oakstar's announcements didn't come as much of a surprise, besides one thing - she hadn't expected him to announce exactly what Ridgelight had done. Still, she wasn't the leader or deputy, and what they chose to share and keep to themselves wasn't hers to concern herself with. Nor did Tinystar's simple and quick announcement surprise her.

The ShadowClan cat, on the other paw... Despite her composure, Emberheart heard herself snort a laugh at her quick and direct announcement. And she'd thought Tinystar's announcement was lacking. Well, she didn't know what to expect from this cat, that was certain... Still, the Gathering wasn't over and she hadn't time to dwell on this just yet. WindClan's leader had yet to speak, after all; and she found herself curious as to what their ally's leader had to say.

Minkpaw grinned as Batbite replied. "I guess we'll have to find out." He looked around, ear twitching as a vaguely familiar voice called from the Great Rock, and he glanced up for a moment, distracted slightly. Wait, Thornbriar?? The same she-cat who had practically raised Dappleshine - and was just slightly unsettling with her large frame and battle scars - was speaking for Scorchclaw? Just as he focused on what she was saying, she stopped and stepped back, a slight challenge flashing in her eyes.

A half-smile replaced the look of confusion on his face as he mentally shook himself and turned back to Bat. Well no one ever said she wasn't blunt.... She'd probably get chewed out by the others for being so terse, but that wasn't his problem. His gaze lighted on a small group of cats young enough to be apprentices who were sitting not far away as he spoke again, his voice just loud enough to hopefully catch their attention without drawing odd looks from the others around them, "Did it happen to be something about the Abandoned Barn?"
