Little Thief [OPEN TOPIC]

Partially smothered with moss and broken leaves entangled in fur, Mudkit creeped forward to the entrance of the nursery. The corners of her mouth twitched with a delinquent grin. Gentle rustling from the den’s ingress alluded those nearby towards two small blue eyes peering mischievously into the camp.

”A heist for the ages...!” The tiny espionage squeaked as she watched the fresh kill pile shortly yonder, hindlegs shuffling ever so slightly towards her bounty!

"Hi!" Marshkit said loudly and with little tact, from behind Mudkit.

He had been near the nursery entrance, "sleeping", though actually he had merely been sitting around, bored, trying to pretend he was asleep so his mother would not scold him. But now she had fallen asleep, and he saw no reason to keep pretending. He had noticed Mudkit leaving the den and, without really thinking about it or noticing that she was trying to be sneaky, had decided to go up to her.

"What're you doing?" he asked inquisitively, tilting his head.

Surprised by the other kit's interjection, Mudkit's fur settled as she smiled.

"I'm practicing my sneaking! I'm gonna sneak to the fresh kill pile and get something tasty! Y'know, as a prize!" She chirped quite loudly. She glanced back into the nursery before looking to the fellow kit once again. She just remembered she's supposed to be quiet to be stealthy.

"Wanna join me?" She asked Marshkit in a hushed tone, ears twitching in anticipation. Every great heist needed a partner in crime!

Marshkit's ears perked up, excited at being asked to join in. The idea of trying to sneak up and grab something from the pile sounded fun!

"Definitely!" he said in his quietest voice which was, altogether, not very quiet. He tried to drop down into his best crouch, getting ready to sneak around, though he couldn't help but shift around excitedly in place.

"So, what's the plan?" he asked Mudkit enthusiastically, though managing to actually speak in a quiet tone this time.

"Do ya see the big fat toad on top?" Mudkit nodded towards the pile, bumping the other kits shoulder for his attention. Her eyes wandered the campground momentarily before she continued, on high alert.

"He's right there on the tip top, easy to get, huge target, and a delicious meal! We'll sneak over there on three, but we have to make sure there aren't any clanmates in earshot! If we're caught, we lose. If we get the frog, we win!" Mudkit licked her lips whilst elaborating, flattening her ears and glaring ever so devilishly at the bounty that laid a few foxlengths away from them.

"Oh, r-right, of course, we have to make sure no ones in earshot! Marshkit froze in the middle of walking, having started to move forward as soon as Mudkit had first mentioned the toad on top.

"Should we, ah, quickly scout out the area around the pile, make sure no ones...listening?" He asked her, trying to sound like an expert sneaker. He looked at the frog out of the corner of his eye...it did look quiet delicious. He felt his stomach grumble a little thinking about it. He looked back at Mudkit, waiting for her response. Though he tried to sound "professional", he was, as with most situations, not sure at all what he was doing.

"Good idea!"Mudkit whispered, seemingly impressed. She gave the tomkit an affirming nod and a confident smile.

"You go up and look around first, then once it's clear you can gimmie a signal!" She chattered. Mudkit inched her way out of the nursery. Now a bit closer to the pile, her tail swayed rhythmically waiting for a signal. What signal? Any signal!

"All right!" Marshkit said, nodding at her. "I'll do that!"

Marshkit at first dropped into a crouch as approached the pile, then as he got closer decided to try and "act natural", trotting around its perimeter. He looked over at the prize, and his stomach growled again. He paused, distracted for a moment by their goal, then shook his head and resumed his "scouting mission".

Once he thought the coast was clear, he paused to give Mudkit the signal...though he wasn't sure what exactly that should be. Should he flick his ears? His tail? Make a noise? Eventually he settled on doing a little hopping motion, hoping it would be clear enough.

Marshkit tilted his head, not sure why Mudkit was nodding at him.

Oh, maybe she's saying she approved of my signal? he wondered. He nodded back at her. He noticed she had begun crouching and making her way to the pile. Not sure of what to do, he simply decided to mirror her actions, creeping toward the pile from his side.

Creeping a bit closer, she looked to Marshkit once again before lunging herself towards the pile. She pretty much impacted headfirst onto the pile. Noticing her... 'miscalculation'... she scurried atop the pile beside the frog and lifted it up triumphantly.

"Victory is ours!" She exclaimed, her voice muffled through clamped teeth. Seems like she forgot the entire stealth aspect of the initial mission. She skid away from the pile, bounding towards Marshkit and presented the bounty.

"A meal fit for a lion!" She exaggerated, setting the frog down and looking to Marshkit expectantly.

Marshkit hopped excitedly. The plan had gone off without a hitch!

"Wow, no kidding!" he said, looking down at the frog. He nudged it a little, pushing it further towards Mudkit.

"Your plan worked out great!" he said admiringly. "You definitely deserve the first bite," He sat down happily across from her.
