Restart of Life [OPEN]

Berrycloud's usual self was almost lost by now. The guilt of Silverfang's that he was getting over it now returned since another mysterious she-cat died saving him from dogs. Again, he had failed to protect others... he had failed to even protect himself! How was he supposed to be a warrior if he couldn't fight properly? Was he even worth it considering that he was a rogue-born cat? Was he even meant to be a warrior of Riverclan? The large, handsome tom walked slowly leading the patrol, not sharing too many words with his companions until it was really necessary. The patrol arrived at the river, who now had returned to its normal levels. The Sunningrocks were back to normal, warm as ever. He let out a sigh and turned his gaze to his clanmates behind him. "I guess we can start hunting here." He mewed, giving the start of the hunting patrol Scorchclaw ordered him to do.

Uncertain paws trailed behind the large golden tom. Egretpaw faintly wondered if there really would be anything to catch, seeing as the whole territory got reshaped by the raging waters. Still, they had no choice but to start looking, cats were waiting for something to eat while they rebuilt the camp. With beetle-black eyes she looked Berrycloud over. He was acting a lot more subdued after whatever happened at Highstones, the details of which were still unclear. Did he want to talk about it? 'Probably not now.'

Upon reaching Sunningrocks, the young she-cat looked upon the river, gaze following the banks, bare if not for the few sprouting reeds or driftwood jutting out from the mud like a giant claws. She peered into the water carefully, remembering that her shadow would scare anything she would try to catch. When had anyone told her that? It felt like such a long time ago, so much had happened since she'd been made an apprentice. The glittering of scales caught her eye, and she watched with a brief flush of excitement as the green-gray fish swam closer and closer. It was practically beneath her before she struck out a paw, followed swiftly by sharp teeth. The scent of fish confirmed her success before her eyes had a chance to catch up. Egretpaw hauled the flopping creature onto the shore, killing it with a sharp nip behind its skull. In those brief moments of success she forgot what had transpired over the past few moons.

Myrtlepaw followed alongside Egretpaw, keeping an eye on Berrycloud. She didn't know the older tom particularly well but he always seemed nice enough; she could sense something was bothering him. There was a general pall over the camp to begin with as cats were still recovering from the battle at Highstones. It would take a while for things to get back to normal after the raging floods. She was just happy to be back home, back to were it was safe. Or rather, mostly safe. Now was perhaps not the time to discuss personal matters. They had to do their job and provide food for the Clan. Upon reaching Sunningrocks, the marbled she-cat moved down the bank away from the other two. She leaned over the water, taking careful note of her shadow, one paw raised to strike. There was a flash of scales beneath her and she deftly hooked the fish out of the water. Myrtlepaw pressed her paw into it to hold it still and bit down on the back of its skull, killing it. She looked up at Egretpaw and smiled softly. Two lucky catches so far.

The warrior followed his own way as the two apprentices proceeded to hunt on their own side. He walked to the nearby swollen shore and walked a few steps into the water, not minding the cold. Silent and blue, Berrycloud waited on the spot for fishes. Due to the flood, they weren't as much as they used to be but they were returning back to normal slowly. The forest could recover from this... but the she-cat's that died for him. Letting out a frustrated hiss, the golden tom didn't bother in wait, unable to look into his reflection any longer. Instead, he walked a bit into the forest of reeds until his green eyes spotted a bushy, unusual tail. Quietly and strangely swiftly, the stocky warrior caught the squirrel between his jaws. He was a bit surprised to see this kind of prey here but it made sense that some animals were left out their normal land after the flood. Berrycloud returned to the group and left the squirrel in the muddy shore.
