Sparking Hope[OPEN]

Sparkkit looked at the prey pile, tentative. Should she take one? She was a kit, after all, but then again, it was looking like there wasn't much at the time...

"Would you like some help?" a voice squeaked from behind the she-kit. A bushy ginger-and-white kit, followed closely behind by a bluish-gray kit, grinned and approached her. "I realize the prey may look big at first glance, especially when you come here to eat for the first time, but it's just enough for me and my brother! Do you wanna share with us? We were going to eat a mouse together, so you can join us!" He approached the small pile and grabbed a mouse by the tail, then began tugging and pulling, trying to yank it out from underneath a pigeon, grunting and huffing.

"Yeah, neither of us will mind sharin', there's plenty of prey in the forest," the other tom meowed, stepping up to Sparkkit's side and offering her a laid-back smile. "Name's Orchidkit, and my brother there is Poppykit. You're... Sparkkit, right? I heard Minnowcall talking about a newly-born kit earlier in the nursery."

"Brother, you really need to stop eavesdropping on everyone's conversations," Poppykit chided, still having yet to yank the mouse free.

"Can't really help but overhear when they speak so close to where I'm tryin' to nap."

(too late. she is now fluttershy)

ooc: ok so i just had this little idea. what if she got ah... attached to Orchid and started talking like him, and then... Orchid doesn't happen to have a mate planned for him, does he?

Sparkkit's eyes flicked between the two kits, somewhat scared of the larger cats. "I- um- I'm Sparkkit, yes... Nice to meet you?" She stammered. "Er- sure, let's share... I guess... see, it's just really low, and I don't want to take prey when there might be o- other cats who need it..."

(OOC: Um... I don’t think he has a planned mate. I think this would be very cute. Also, Flutters is best pony, so now Spark is best kitty <3)

“Worry not, for that is what warriors and apprentices are for,” Poppykit mewed, finally wrenching the mouse free from the pile. ”We’re kits, do we’re allowed to eat first! Uh, is that right, Orchidkit?”

“That’s right, bro,” Orchidkit nodded. ”Queens, elders, kits, and the sick must always be fed before warriors and apprentices. Plus, I heard Scorchfang saying he’s going to organize a hunting patrol soon.” He offered Sparkkit a soft smile. ”Y’know, it’s actually really nice’a ya t’ be thinkin’ about others. You must be a really kind cat.”

Sparkkit folded her ears back. "O- Oh. Yes, I forgot about that. But shouldn't the app- apprentices and warriors eat first, since they are the ones who can need it to- who can hunt?" Sparkkit offered Orchidkit a small smile, growing somewhat flustered to be put on the spot. "W- Why thank you. I just- Isn't- A warrior is supposed to take care of their clan, right? I mean, that's all I'm doing..." She flicked her ears back normal. "Do you want to take the first bite?" She asked them both generally.

"Wowie, I never really thought of that," the ginger-and-white tom mewed, impressed with her logical thinking. "It's important for us to eat first, but warriors and apprentices need to keep up their strength. Quite a difficult choice to make really." He smiled and began to nudge the mouse towards Sparkkit, about to speak again at her question, when Orchidkit leaned down to take a bite out of the mouse's side. Poppykit narrowed his eyes and thwacked his bushy tail on the back of his brother's head. "Hey! What are you doing?"

"Takin' th' f'rst bite," the heterochromic kit mumbled around a mouthful of rodent matter-of-factly.

"Don't you have any common courtesy towards she-cats? Obviously we should've let her have the first bite! You're such a little glutton sometimes, Orchidkit!"

Swallowing, Orchidkit shrugged with a lazy grin. "Hey, if food's gonna be offered, I'm gonna take it. But... yeah, you can have the next bite." He pushed the mouse over to Sparkkit's paws.

Sparkkit listened intently to Poppykit. She didn't think she was so smart, but maybe she was. Her eyes widened at the little act. "D- don't hurt him!" She protested. Infighting was bad! They were all in the same clan here, weren't they? "It's fine, I- I don't like the hide much anyway." Really, she loved the hide and had inwardly hoped to go first, but they were both nice toms and actually listened to her, so she could sacrifice it. She tentatively took a bite. Mouse was good, with or without its hide. After gulping, she pushed it gently towards Poppykit. "Here, it's you- your turn."

ooc: I imagine animal hides to be like the crust on the sandwich bread. some kids avoid it, I eat it first and then get to the good stuff.

Poppykit's eyes widened a little at the plea, and he shook his head quickly. "Oh, no, I didn't hurt him! I would never hurt anyone."

"It's a little thing called banter," Orchidkit agreed, "but hey, thanks for looking out for me. I appreciate it." At their new friend's little white lie, he smiled apologetically. He could tell by the hesitation in her voice, the forced smile, and the look of disappointment in her eyes that what she was saying wasn't at all the truth. "Hey, sorry about that. Next time, you can have the first bite, I don't mind. I like pretty much any place of the mouse, so it's nothin' big."

"Um... What are you talking about, brother? She just said she didn't like the hide." With a confused huff, Poppykit shook his head, then smiled at the offered fresh-kill. He took a big, yet neat, bite out of its snout and hummed with delight. "Yummy! Prey always tastes better when Orchidkit and I share it, but now it tastes even more delicious with you, Sparkkit!"

Sparkkit looked between them. "O- Oh. I didn't know that. Warriors and app- apprentices are always coming back from fights hurt, so... I just assumed..." She trailed off and mentioned, "No, Orchidkit, it's fine." She turned to Poppykit. "I- it's true, I love the hide more than anything, but I didn't want you to feel bad about it, so I lied." She smiled at them, genuinely. "Thank you for being so nice! Nobody ever pays attention to me, not even Goldenstrike and Blackstripe." She blinked and watched them for a forever moment. "It- It's Orchidkit's turn." She pointed with her ears.

"I'm sorry to hear that," Poppykit mewed, pushing the mouse over to his brother. Then he brightened up. "Oh, I just had the best idea! You could be our best friend! It'll be so much fun hanging out with someone else!"

"Mmm, I like the sound of that," Orchidkit mumbled through another mouthful of mouse, offering Sparkkit a welcoming smile. He pushed the now half-eaten mouse over to her.

Sparkkit grinned. "Yeah! That'd be awe- great! I'd ju- I'd love to be your best friend! And you two are my best friends!" she munched on some more mouse. It was so good! Poppykit was right, it was better when you shared. "So it's settled. We're n- best friends! A trio!" She slid it to Poppykit. It had enough for him on it.

Poppykit squealed and bounced up and down with a wide grin. "We have a new best friend! This is the best day ever!" Ignoring the last bit of meat on the mouse for the time being, he gently tackled Sparkkit down to nuzzle her cheek with his own, purring loudly.

Orchidkit chuckled and gave the she-kit a simple lick between the ears.

Sparkkit didn't know how to react. She was speechless, completely not used to having this much attention and care for her. She was very glad she met these two toms.

The ginger-and-white tom's head suddenly shot up, eyes sparkling excitedly. "Oh, I have an idea! Let's play a game together! We could play Would You Rather?, Truth or Dare, Never Have I Ever..."

"A game that requires little to no exercise? Count me in," Orchidkit purred in response.

Sparkkit looked around at them. "I don't care. I've never heard of any of them." Truth or Dare sounded dangerous, Would You Rather sounded like something that required a lot of decision-making, so she was rooting for Never Have I Ever, but it was up to the tomcats. After all, they were her best friends! They deserved to choose.
