Grabs the Guns, Let's Go Hunting {Closed}

That morning found Tigerleaf seated alone at the exit of SkyClan's camp. She sat absolutely still, with only the sporadic twitching of her slender tail. Although her lack of expression made it rather hard to tell her current mood, there was a slight air of annoyance about her. Apparently, Mistyrain had decided that it was a good idea to place the young warrior in charge of a hunting patrol. That meant that she had to talk to her clanmates, something she didn't want to do. Life was a lot easier without social interaction, but that was hard to achieve when one lived in a clan. At the very least, a patrol would allow her to roam about the SkyClan territory that she loved so much. Glancing in the direction of camp, she hoped that Darkflower and Featherpaw would show themselves soon.

Darkflower glanced apologetically in Tigerleaf's direction, the other warrior must of been waiting ages for her, but Darkflower was starving. She was suppose to be on a patrol with her, but instead she was eating. In her defence, she didn't think she could hunt on an empty stomach and she didn't want the growling of her stomach to scare away the prey. The tuxedo she-cat swiped her tongue over her muzzle and stood up. She ought to join Tigerleaf now. Nodding in greeting to the other warrior, Darflower settled down beside her.

Featherpaw walked out of the apprentice's den, yawning. She was soon fully awake and energetic, like usual. She smiled at the cats and padded over ready to patrol. She half-ran-half-walked out of camp, the warriors on her tail. She waited near a tall pine tree

Tigerleaf silently returned Darkflower's nod, relieved when the other warrior didn't seem interested in conversation. It wasn't too long before they were joined by the final member of their patrol. Featherpaw emerged from the Apprentice Den, still struggling to brush away the last remnants of sleep. Or so the brown tabby had thought. In a moment, the apprentice had perked up and looked all ready to go. Tigerleaf twitched one ear in mild discomfort. No way. How in StarClan could someone look that energetic after waking up? Featherpaw must be one of those morning cats she had heard so much about. Pushing her distracted thoughts aside, she cleared her throat lightly. "Let's go." She said shortly.

Thus, the three of them left camp. Not betraying the impression she had given off earlier, Featherpaw ran ahead of the other two warriors. Tigerleaf had already given up on questioning it. A niggling thought to call the apprentice back was right at the back of her throat, but she ended up swallowing her words. It was too early in the morning to have to deal with this. When eventually she and Darkflower had caught up, Tigerleaf decided that they had arrived at a good enough spot. "... We can split up here to hunt." Yay, solitude. That cheer was meant to be said in a half-hearted tone. "But don't go too far away, in case something happens." Almost wearily, the young warrior turned and slowly padded away from the other two.

Darkflower nodded briefly, then quickly departed from the rest of the patrol. It was a quiet day and she was thankful for that. The she-cat soon picked up the scent of a robin. Her whisker twitched and her ears swivelled trying to pick up it location. Eventually, Darkflower pinpointed it.

She'd done this before, so she knew what to do. Instinctively, she dropped into a hunting crouching crouch, dashing soundlessly towards the unsuspecting bird. Her tail twitched as she waited for the perfect moment. The bird hobbled into view and that's when she pounced, catching the bird in her paws. Darkflower killed it with a swift nip to the neck.

Featherpaw slowed herself so she wouldn't make noise. Squirrel! She thought as she dropped into a crouch. She spotted the fluffy body near a pine tree's roots. She bunched up her muscles, tucking her tail under her belly. She leaped into the air, catching the squirrel between her paws. She quickly nipped her prey.

Featherpaw carried the squirrel back to the warriors, proud of her catch. "Nice catch!" The calico apprentice mewed, seeing Blackflower's bird.

Once the other two she-cats were a sufficient distance away, Tigerleaf felt herself relax somewhat. The sparsely-arranged trees of SkyClan territory allowed a clear view of the sky that the clan was named for. As she gazed upwards, a swallow flitted across the tops of the poplar trees. Poplars, like Poplarstar. For a split-second, the young warrior found herself rooted to the ground as the memories of the late leader surfaced in her mind. With a light shake of her head, she hastily shoved them away. He was gone now, like so many others; no point thinking of him. For the time being, she would climb a tree to see if she could catch any of the feathered-prey.

So climb she did. With a soft grunt, Tigerleaf pulled herself unto the lower branch of the poplar. Her long tail flicked out behind her as she stood. The swallow was gone now, as far as she could see. Silently, she scanned the surrounding branches for signs of living creatures. Her dark ears twitched at the sound of slight rustling. Her gaze swiveled upwards. A bird was perched delicately on an upper branch, preening its feathers. She was quite fortunate that it had not noticed her yet. There was just one problem. The distance between her branch and the bird's was no small joke. She could do it. An unwavering expression of determination on her face, the striped she-cat crouched down. Like a spring, her powerful hind legs propelled her upwards. Just as she had been aiming for, she landed squarely on the target branch. Unfortunately, the startled bird instantly took flight. It moved too quickly for her to catch it. Tigerleaf glared after it, lashing her tail once.

"shankfs," mewed Darkflower words muffled due to the limp creature in her mouth. She dropped the kill and begun to bury it, glancing around for any creatures that might steal it. Darkflower lifted her head and sniffed, already alert and looking for prey. A twig snapped and Darkflower left the apprentice, probably not the best idea.

She dropped, yet again, into the hunting crouch, moving swiftly towards her target. Unfortunately, the tuxedo she-cat stepped on a leaf, emitting a loud crouch! The mouse scampered into view, to see the disturbance, letting out a loud squeak when it saw Darkflower, then dashed away out of site. "Foxdung." cursed the warrior tail sweeping across the leaves angrily.

Featherpaw sniffed the air, detecting a mouse-scent. She buried the squirrel and dropped into a crouch, the oppisite way of the warriors. She sprang up, her paws landing on the mouse. The calico nipped the brown body and it went limp.
