Double Date [Closed]

The sun hadn't quite peered its head above the horizon yet, but the cats of SkyClan were beginning to stir in the soft morning light. Firflower stretched in her nest as she woke up, taking care to not awaken her Clanmates. She turned to face the still-sleeping form of a fluffy white tom and couldn't help but watch him for a heartbeat or so. Cloudroar's usually grumpy face appeared at peace. 'He looks like a kit.' She didn't want to wake him when he looked so peaceful, but they had already agreed to go on a morning patrol with their apprentices. The lanky she-cat gently prodded the older warrior with her nose until he seemed to stir. She gave him a short purr in hopes he'd recognize her voice before she emerged from the den and entered those of the apprentices'. Blue eyes searched the darkness for the familiar form of her own apprentice, Falconpaw, and for Cloudroar's, Jaypaw. Gingerly picking her way through the young cats, she nudged the two apprentices in turn, and waited for them to move somewhat before moving back outside the den. The sky was, so far, somewhat cloudy, and hopefully it would at least sprinkle later. Anything was better than the harsh Greenleaf sun.

Falconpaw blinked his yellow eyes blearily as he felt Firflower nudge him. For a moment he stared blankly towards Jaypaw, then began to wake as the morning air brushed through his coat. He yawned, then shifted to step out of his nest with a large stretch. A smirk of confidence on his muzzle as he stepped out and followed Firflower out of the apprentice's den to sit next to her. A soft purr in his throat as the sun warmed his pelt under the rustling leaves.

He turned his head towards her curiously, but said nothing. She wouldn't hear anything he said, instead he waited patiently for a sign, a signal of what they would be doing today.

Cloudroar grumbled sleepily as he was nudged awake. "Wh-" He started to spit out a nasty remark when the sweet scent of Firflower filled his nose, and his irritation dissolved instantly. With a sleepy nuzzle to her cheek, he rose silently to his paws to stretch. Only a few moments later, he emerged from the den to reside next to his mate's side. "Good morning, Firflower." The fluffy white tom meowed to his mate sleepily, his gravelly voice still a bit slurred from his recent slumber.

As he began to actually wake up, he realized that Firflower's apprentice was with them. "Good morning, Falconpaw." He greeted mildly before turning his attention back to Firflower. "How was your sleep, darling." He purred softly as he made sure to speak clearly, not necessarily loud, but easy for her to read. Now, all they were waiting for was his apprentice, Jaypaw.

Jaypaw's bright eyes snapped open as the deaf she-cat prodded her side, yanking her from her precious state up sleep. Training. Patrols. Heat. She was so tired of it all. She just wanted to curl up in her nest- but no, she just simply couldn't, because it would hurt the Clan so badly. She stood up, tossing her thick calico fur to clear it of any debris. The patrol would have to wait a minute or two- her fur was sticking in any direction it pleased, and grooming it down would take longer than the she-cat liked. She immediately ran her rough tongue over it, trying her best to keep it down. She quickly grew frustrated with it- she was already building up a mild sweat under the thick, long coat. "Guess I'll just have to deal with it," She muttered, walking out of the den quickly.

"Are we all ready to go? I'd prefer not to stay out any longer than necessary. It's hot." She said each word slowly and clearly, silently acknowledging Firflower's deaf state.

When Cloudroar came to sit beside her, Firflower briefly pressed into his side. In response to his question, she gave him a soft purr as a somewhat-clear, 'Good.' Her blue eyes scrunched with a happy gaze he couldn't see. She turned her head to face Falconpaw, and Jaypaw as she'd just emerged from the den, giving them both a soft nod in gentle greeting. Noticing that Cloudroar's apprentice seemed uncomfortable, the young warrior remembered how unbearable the coming hours would be for her thick-coated Clanmates. 'We might head for the stream. Everything will look for something to drink and to cool off in in this weather.' The lanky she-cat got to her paws and gave a soft trill as a sign that they should head out.

Once they emerged from camp, she attempted to steer them in the direction of the seasonal stream running through SkyClan territory. Hopefully, the rains from days past had filled the beds with water that would, at least, provide something for them to drink. Whatever prey lay between them and their destination, she knew they could catch. She only hoped that someone else would figure out where it was they were going; StarClan knew she couldn't tell them.
