Thistlekit's Apprentice Ceremony

Brindlestar rarely oversaw the proceedings of Apprentice Ceremonies, with the brunt of the duty now falling upon Swiftstep's shoulders, but this case was a bit more unique than previous instances. It had come to her attention that the young tom in question had found himself in the awkward position of holding a name that no longer suited him- thus, she was now standing atop the Tallrock to not only handle an Apprentice ceremony, but a renaming one as well. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather underneath the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!" She called, voice carrying the familiar summons.

Thistlekit trotted out of the nursery, his fluffy fur sticking out in every direction in an attempt to appear fearsome. The kit sat down on the outside of the gathering crowd, his excitement obvious. Today could be his apprentice ceremony!

"We all gather here today to make one of our kits an apprentice. Thistlekit, please step forward." Watching as the young tom obeyed the short command with little hesitation, Brindlestar allowed the brief silence to swell before continuing with the ceremony. Although she had little experience in the task of renaming, it did little to quell her steadiness. "Thistlekit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. However, unlike the rest of your denmates, the path to Warriorhood begins with the bestowing of a new name. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Thornpaw. Smokepelt shall be your mentor. I have no doubts that his seasons of experience will serve as a more than adequate guide."

Standing up upon hearing his name, Smokepelt gave the leader a curt nod and walked over to his new apprentice. "We'll start training tomorrow," the tall, dark grey and white tom mewed blandly as he touched noses with the younger she-cat.

Thornpaw?
The tall tom flicked his tail, ears twitching. If Brindlestar thought the name suited him better, he supposed it was all the same to him. Thistles, thorns, or anything else, what mattered most was that he was finally an apprentice.
Thornpaw grinned excitedly, reaching up to meet Smokepelt's nose with his own. "I won't disappoint you." He mewed, his voice hardening. He was determined to do his best; after all, he wasn't going to become the greatest Windclan cat of all time by lazing around all day.
