Graypaw's eyes were on the ground as she padded alongside the border, lost in thought as usual. It has been moons since she'd joined WindClan, and there were young warriors older than her. She'd trained day and night with Badgerthorn and her other Clanmates, trying to prove her worthiness, but apparently the death of Ashstar has set that back a little bit. Brindlestar had never trusted her as much, but hopefully, she'd get her warrior name soon... Finally. As she was about to turn around, the gray tabby she-cat's ears pricked up. There were pawsteps. RiverClan. Blue eyes narrowed, the warrior-aged apprentice turned to face the approaching cat, watching them suspiciously to make sure nothing happened, and they didn't get any... funny ideas. She'd heard stories of the fish-eaters' treatment of her Clan, and it made her embarrassed for her former Clan being allied with them.

Staring across the river next to the gorge at Graypaw was the pretty young she-cat Flurrypaw. Her luminous green eyes narrowed snidely at her, looking her up and down, and finally she huffed. "Um, what are you supposed to be? Some sorry excuse for a she-cat? Eugh, just look at that disgusting shade of gray that's plastered to your fur! Don't tell me that's your natural fur color!" She made a look of disgust and took a step back, her tongue sticking out.

Graypaw raised an unimpressed eyebrow at the dude young she-cat, noting to herself that she was probably three times the other one's age. While her feelings would have been hurt at a younger age, this older, more mature Graypaw didn't care. The RiverClanner's opinion didn't matter... Badgerthorn thought she was pretty. The WindClan apprentice stood her ground, eyes narrowed. "And what are you, a cloud?" she retorted. "Only ugly cats would feel the need to criticize others. I bet prey could see you coming from a mile away... If they couldn't smell you."

"Oh, I know you did not just call me ugly," Flurrypaw spat, eyes wide with anger and disbelief. "At least I don't look like a moldy, fuzzy old piece of fox-dung that sprouted legs and half a brain, if that!" Her fur bushed out aggressively, clearly very offended.

Graypaw rolled her eyes, corner of her mouth crooked in a mocking smile. It was so nice not to feel vulnerable anymore... she was really getting the hang of this confidence thing. While her Clanmates' opinions still meant the world to her, the thoughts of other Clan cats were disregardable in any way. And compared to the danger and uncertainty she'd faced in the past, this kit-fresh RiverClanner wasn't even anyone to get worried about. "Look who's talking," the tabby sassed. "Did your mother forget to lick you before you walked out of the nursery? Did daddy forget to teach you how to respect other Clan cats? If you come over here, I'll show you some respect." She wasn't as far gone as to cross the border. But if the other she-cat did... she wouldn't lie and say that she wouldn't enjoy tearing a few scratches into that vain apprentice's face.

Flurrypaw snarled and glared furiously at Graypaw. ”Normally, I wouldn’t fight disgusting she-cats... but you just called my parents incompetent. No one insults my family and gets away with it!” Thankful for Dewshine’s teachings, she was able to successfully swim through the river to get to her opponent. Then she leaped out with a furious yowl and slammed into Graypaw, pinning her down on the ground and pressing her muzzle in the dirt.

Flurrypaw used Leap-and-Hold on Graypaw, dealing 6 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Graypaw was slammed to the ground by the hissing mad she-cat, and she was stuck there for a bit. She'd learned enough from Moonlight and Badgerthorn to know that struggling would be no use, she'd just have to regain her strength. "For such a vain cat," the older apprentice snapped, "you're certainly very heavy. Don't miss many meals, do you?" The second she was free, she'd turn the tables on the inexperienced cat soon enough.

Graypaw is no longer stunned.

Flurrypaw spat furiously, completely enraged at this point, and dug her claws deeper into her shoulders before beginning to mercilessly rake her hind claws down her back, too angry to care about the tufts of fur or bits of blood catching in her claws and coloring her beautifully groomed paws crimson.

Graypaw shook herself free, not acknowledging the pain she felt, and immediately pinned down the hissing white she-cat. Her claws sank deep into her fur, leaving marks that would stay there. At least not all her battle training had gone to waste.

Flurrypaw couldn’t keep down a whimper of agony, unused to feeling any kind of physical pain like this. Unlike Graypaw, she didn’t think about saving her energy for fighting when she was finally freed, instead struggling and squirming.

Graypaw felt a tiny bit of satisfaction at pinning down the arrogant RiverClan she-cat, despite not really enjoying fighting. The tabby apprentice did what had been done to her, raking the other cat's belly with her claws, then using characteristic WindClan speed to smack her across the face as well.
