Spiderkit's Apprentice Ceremony

The view from the tallbranch was something that Poplartooth had become accustomed to. So, as he easily leapt up onto the tree branch to start the ceremony for Spiderkit, looking down upon the camp clearing was no longer a sight that filled him with awe. Some cats had already begun to curiously mill around near the bottom of the tallbranch, but Poplartooth needed to make sure that everyone was there. After silently clearing his throat, the deputy let the familiar meeting call escape his maw.
"Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the tallbranch for a Clan meeting!"

Spiderkit looked up timidly at the SkyClan deputy. Stars, he was up so high! How could he stand all the way up on Tallbranch without being scared out of his mind of falling off?

He gulped and slipped through between the gathering cats' legs to get a closer look, but once he spotted Raccoonpaw standing in close proximity of him he squeezed out and backed up back towards the nursery, ready to hide away.

Ah, there he was. Poplartooth couldn't help but glance toward Spiderkit with the slightest bit of confusion in his green eyes. It was a known fact that the kit was timid, but the deputy had hoped that Spiderkit would've at least shown some bravery during his own ceremony. Sighing, the fluffy tom figured that the mentor he had in mind for Spiderkit would be able to bring out the best in the soon-to-be apprentice.

"We gather here on this day to make one of our kits an apprentice. Spiderkit, please step forward."
Once the kit did so, Poplartooth smoothly continued the ceremony, "Spiderkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this moment, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Spiderpaw. Your mentor will be Cloudroar. I sincerely trust that he'll be able to teach you the ways of SkyClan and being a warrior."

With that, the tom leaped off of the tallbranch to end the ceremony.

Spiderkit's fur fluffed up, spooked by Poplartooth speaking his name so suddenly. He looked up at the deputy and whimpered softly as he approached back to the Tallbranch.

His eyes widened with horror when he learned who his mentor would be. Though, it wasn't the mentor himself he was scared of, but rather the other apprentice he was mentoring: Raccoonpaw. Of all the cats in the Clan, he just had to be paired with the same mentor who also trained the super mean apprentice!

He whimpered brokenly. His apprenticeship was not going to be fun...

Perfect! Just perfect. Although Raccoonpaw didn't like the idea of having to work with such a loser, this would give him a great opportunity to do cruel things to Spiderpaw behind Cloudroar's back without suspicion. 
Trotting over to the newly-named Spiderpaw, he smiled and congratulated him so genuinely that it likely fooled the dark red apprentice for a moment. For a split second, his expression turned to one of mischief and mockery when no cat was looking toward him, but it shortly returned to the same faux look that Raccoonpaw had first put on. "I will look forward to our training together, Spiderpaw," the Siamese cat spoke. He knew that, without a doubt, he would enjoy it, but not the way anyone else would imagine. Only Spiderpaw knew.
