The soft dew of morning clung to the leaves of the trees above him. Light slowly unraveling the shadows and bringing the glistening morning to life. It was, by all means, a perfect dawn morning. Yet a silver tom sat in the middle of camp. His gaze focused on the absent leader's den.
Had something happened? Rippedstar was supposed to be back by now? Where was Poplartooth? His ears flattened as he thought about the potential answers. Had they been injured by the rogues of twolegplace? Surely they were better trained than that. His tail flicked as a shadow flickered and a branch swayed in the corner of his eye.
There was no time to focus on that now. He closed his eyes and took a couple deep breaths. Today, he would train his new apprentice, Sleet on fallen leaves... a strange tom to be certain. He felt a curious but deeply rooted concern about the newest apprentice.
It didn't make sense. He had left. To bring an outsider, even a former old SkyClan cat into the clan felt like something the weak Kittypets of ThunderClan would do. Yet most of the other cats had seemed thrilled. Was there something he was missing ?
He turned towards the apprentice's den with a glare. There had to be more to this. Maybe it was a trick? Though he frowned to think of what end such a trick could be used for. He stepped forward when his apprentice finally emerged, words unthought slipped out of his maw before he could control them, something even Rippedstar had failed to stop.
"Sleet on fallen leaves." He meowed harshly. "Come with me." He ordered, not even waiting for Sleet's reaction to his command as he turned to glare at him arrogantly. "I should hope you know how to use the trees." A true skyclan cat would, he thought to himself.
