Riverclanners Spotkit and Smokekit weren't particularly close until Spotpaw's late apprenticeship after the, ah, Swanpaw incident. Once warriors, they found a particular fondness for each other. On a night patrol made up of only the two of them, they could not concentrate and finally realized their love for each other. They then had one litter of three kits; the aquaphobic tom Mudpaw, the black she-cat Nightpaw, and the quiet she-cat Mistpaw and adopted Chillkit/paw. At first, when Spotfur told her that he wanted to have two mates, Smokewish thought he didn't love her anymore, but he quickly and desperately tried to get her to understand. She is okay with being a second mother to the other pair's kits.

Leafpaw and Specklepaw were hardly friends as apprentices, mainly because of Leafpaw's sister, Sunpaw. Sunpaw and Specklepaw disagreed on nearly everything, and Leafpaw was caught between the two. Originally he had taken Sunpaw's side, but when his sister was taken by the evil Mist, he began to see Specklepaw in a different light. The fluffy she-cat was able to relax without Sunpaw around, and she began to join him and his friends (Hawkpaw, Falconpaw and Blazingpaw) on their various misadventures and patrols. However, Leafpaw and Specklepaw still weren't particularly close, and Leafpaw preferred to spend time with his original friends, although he still welcomed her into their group.
When Specklepaw earned her warrior name Specklefang, Leafpaw noticed that she was starting to spend more time with Hawkpaw. Leafpaw encouraged this relationship and was happy for his two friends, although Falconpaw feared Specklefang greatly.

One night, Leafpaw and Specklefang were captured by Twolegs alongside a Windclanner named Brackenberry, a Riverclanner named Nutpaw, and a Shadowclanner named Roaringpaw. Leafpaw and Specklefang fought the Twolegs together to allow the others to escape, although Leafpaw was badly injured while being held in the metal cages prior to their attack. Luckily, all the cats managed to escape the Twolegs and began their long journey home. Along the way, Leafpaw and Specklefang face rats, foxes, rouges, and Twolegs. The two finally made it home, weak and exhausted, and after healing Leafpaw earned his warrior name, Leafstorm.
Leafstorm and Specklefang had a very strong bond after their journey through Twolegplace, which is why Specklefang supported Leafstorm after his mate, a kittypet named Cherryblossom, died bearing his kits. Leafstorm also acted as a father figure for Specklefang's litter of kits and grieved alongside her when Hawkpaw and Falconpaw died.
Eventually, their close friendship began to develop into something more. However, their relationship was tested when Sunpaw was rescued from the mist and returned to camp. Sunpaw was appalled by Specklefang and her brother's friendship, certain that Specklefang was trying to steal her only family from her. One day when Leafstorm and Specklefang were alone together in the forest, after Leafstorm had tried to get his sister and Specklefang to become friends, the warrior confessed to Specklefang, who also admitted her feelings for him. Driven mad from her time in the Mistwalker's Lair and her brother's 'betrayal', Sunpaw tried to murder Specklefang by pushing her into the gorge. She was unsuccessful, and although Specklefang tried to save her, she fell into the gorge herself.
Specklefang told Leafstorm that Sunpaw went on a journey. He still believes her, to this day.

Specklefang and Leafstorm had several litters- they absolutely love their big family. Leafstorm loves Specklefang's first litter as much as if it was his own, and Specklefang dotes on all her children and grandchildren, whether they're blood related, adopted or step-related. For a few golden moons, they had a perfect life together.
That is until Thistlepaw was killed in battle.
Leafstorm devastated, but with support from his friends and family, he was able to come to terms with his daughter's death. Specklefang, on the other hand, was unable to move on from the death of her daughter. The warrior blamed herself for Thistlepaw's death. All Leafstorm could do was spend time with his mate, talking to her and comforting her.
Specklefang and Leafstorm weren't the only cats who were affected by Thistlepaw's death. Sharptooth, Thistlepaw's half-sister, accidentally murdered a Riverclan apprentice while trying to prove that Thunderclan was still strong. When Ivystar confronted Blizzardstar, Specklefang sacrificed herself for her family, assuming that one of them had committed the crime. Leafstorm, assuming Specklefang had a plan, let her eat the deathberries.
Specklefang died outside of camp. Leafstorm was the only cat to sit vigil that night. He was the one who buried her the next day and guarded her grave against predators. He still mourns her death.
Nobody other than Sharptooth and Wildfire is aware that Specklefang didn't murder the Riverclan apprentice.
