Back on Track (Closed)

It felt nice to be back outside again. Nutfur had been confined to camp for two moons because of Lionspark's attempted rescue, and then even further when she had Racoonkit. But now she was outside again, and on a hunting patrol. She didn't know either cat she was patrolling with that well, but it was still nice to be out and hunting. After the boredom of camp, everything seemed to have regained its initial interest. As she padded along, she did her best to soak up every scent. The prey, the fish, the trees, the grass, the about to bloom flowers, and all of it. RiverClan territory was the best out of the five, she was sure of it. Frog and fish scent reminded her that she wasn't out here just to admire the land. This was a hunting patrol, and the clan needed to be fed. So she cleared her throat, deciding that where they were was a good place to start. The River was within eyesight, and other land prey was frequent around this area. Not that those were their goal.
"Let's start," Nutfur decided. They probably found it just as strange as she did that she was leading a patrol, but it wouldn't change much. They were just going to hunt, and the less moments about her situation, the better. She didn't know Duckpuddle or Cinderpaw that well, so it might be a bit awkward. But it also meant they probably didn't hate her all too much.

Cinderpaw nodded. He didn't know Nutfur very well. At first, she has just been a face in the crowd, never leaving camp. Then she was a queen, and now she was back to leading patrols again. He waited for her to keep talking. Didn't she know how to lead a patrol? "Well, don't just stand there, tell us if we're hunting fish or land prey!"

Duckpuddle forced herself to not shoot Cinderpaw a scolding glance when he impatiently cut in. Nutfur was very capable of leading a patrol, plus she was older than both of them.
"Calm down, Cinderpaw," The brown warrior said, "Nutfur knows what she's doing."
After that, Duckpuddle looked back at the other warrior. She had thought that the whole RiverClan loyalty issue that had circled around Sweetheart, Nutfur, Spotfur, and Heronflight was over. Apparently, some other cats didn't think so. Duckpuddle didn't care, though. She saw Nutfur was an equal, a Clanmate, a denmate, and nothing less.

"I believe that you are very much able to decide that for yourself, Cinderpaw. I trust you know more about what you specifically are good at than I do. So I'm letting you choose," Nutfur explained, her tone almost as if talking to a kit. She had to admit that she was a bit surprised by Cinderpaw's words. Were all apprentices this incompetent? Throwing a grateful glance towards Duckpuddle, she then turned to face the river. "I, for one, am going to fish. Make sure to stay close enough so that you don't get lost." That last part was mostly just to spite the apprentice, by once again exaggerating how ignorant he was as well as saying something obvious that wouldn't need to be explained. Padding over to the river, she scanned it for fish. After a few moments, she spotted a brown streak that she recognized as a carp. Quickly judging where it was headed, she snapped her claws right there. The brown fish swam right into her claws, causing itself to be launched into the air. Lunging forward, she caught its spine in her jaws. In a swift chomp, she ended its life.

Cinderpaw gave the warriors a glare and an eye roll. He was great at hunting everything. He stalked a little bit away, only to find himself face-to-face with a fox. "Nutfur, Duckpuddle, there's a fox!" He was about to turn and run when it caught hold of his leg. He fell to the ground as it clamped hard. The pain was too much. He passed out.

Fox used Iron Bite, dealing 30 damage and using 20 stamina.

Duckpuddle hadn't even had a chance to do anything before Cinderpaw had called that there was a fox. Instantly, she rushed towards the scene, only to see that the gray apprentice had been knocked out because of the large, russet creature. Fueled by anger, the brown warrior sprang at the fox and knocked it over to make it easier for Nutfur and her to attack it.

Fox? A strange kind of fear rushed through Nutfur the moment that she heard Cinderpaw's cry. Why did her first patrol after such a long time have to be interrupted by one of those red beasts? They seemed to be everywhere now. Sprinting over to the battle scene, she realized that the apprentice had already been knocked out. Oh great. At least Duckpuddle was doing something both effective and productive. Realizing she needed to attack, the warrior dashed to the fox's stomach, turning onto her side to get a better position. Her claws raked through its sensitive stomach flesh, drawing blood.
