What About a Little Hunting Time? (CLOSED)

The flame dappled tom left his den after grooming himself a bit even if he didn't have the energy to do it. The whole situation with his family was still a pain in his heart and even if he had managed to keep a mascarade of happiness and confidence, he was still heartbroken. However, he knew by experience that staying in the camp won't solve anything. The best he could do was to go out and do something useful. "I'm going on a patrol! If you wanna come, join me at the entrance!" He called with a cheerful but fake tone before making his way to the place he just said.

Tansyheart hurried out of the warriors' den at Firestone's call. She padded up to where he was standing with Silentpaw, greeting them with a flick of her tail. "May I join you?" she asked carefully, studying Firestone. She wondered briefly how he felt about the recent events involving their family, but she didn't make any indication of her curiosity, instead pawing self-consciously at the dirt.

The warrior smiled looked at the young she-cat approach and he noticed something familiar in her eyes. He knew that look... he had seen it in his own reflection. That depressed and exhausted look that he had worn too well during the last moons. Firestone looked at the smaller apprentice with a comprehensive expression and gave her a sad smile she couldn't see since she was gazing away from him. "Of course you can come. Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Firestone." He purred charmingly, trying to give Silentpaw a little of confidence around him. She was surely having a bad time now... just like him. And he knew that what they needed was to lean on, a friend to be there and cheer them up.

However, his smile disappeared when he saw Gingerstripe's daughter approaching. He tried to keep a friendly look but it was hard. She must be suffering too. Her father was a murderer... and Nettlesting announced that to all the clan. What would she think about this whole situation? She was family to him, even if they weren't as close as he was with Sparklight, his first apprentice and niece. "Of course you can come, Tansyheart. I'm glad to spend time with my family." He lied. The experienced warrior couldn't trust in his own family after what his parents did... after what Littlebrook... after Gingerstripe's lies. However, he knew that the she-cat had no fault so there was no reason to be mean or distant with her.

"I think we're enough. Let's go!" And with that, he led the patrol into the marshes.

(Time skip)

"Well, this seems like a good place to hunt. Go and hunt whatever you can find and bring it here." He ordered before starting tracking the scent of a rodent. He sniffed the ground and followed the smell until his eyes gazed a small silhouette in the snow. He leapt for it and broke its back with his big paws. The warrior grabbed his prey by the scruff and carried it back to the meeting place they agreed.

Tansyheart followed Firestone and Silentpaw until Firestone instructed them to go hunt. She turned to the left and trotted a short distance away. Almost immediately, she spotted a lizard. She stalked it carefully, and when she was close enough to it, she leaped. The lizard slipped between her paws and darted away. "Mouse-dung," Tansyheart hissed, turning away to search for more prey.

The warrior smiled a bit when he noticed that Silentpaw seemed better after her first catch, unlike him. Gingerstripe's betrayal... was something he couldn't get out of his chest and every day that burden only grew inside of the large and strong tom. But as always, he forced himself to be okay... or at least show that he was fine. That's why he purred delightedly when Silentpaw came with that lizard. "Good job, Silentpaw! Keep that good work." He said before leaving the fresh-kill pile they had created in the search for more prey.

This time, his nose caught the scent of an amphibian. Those slimy animals loved wet places so the warrior searched for a muddy puddle with no snow and he soon found what he was looking for: a green-coloured and fat frog.  He lowered his body and prepared for the hunt, his tail barely lifted up. With a large leap, the warrior sunk his fangs on the not so pleasant skin and killed his prey quickly. Firestone rushed back to the place where they started and he left the dead corpse of the frog.

Ducking her head shyly, the apprentice mumbled a quick "Th-thank you." before scurrying off into the snow laden marshland once again. She had never been too good with praise. The hunting patrol might be improving her mood, but it certainly didn't cure her. Silentpaw took her time searching for potential prey this time. The point of all this wasn't the hunt after all. It was the escape, and so she considered her companions as she walked.

Firestone... wasn't he related to that cat that had been found guilty of murder recently? What was his name again? Gingerswipe? Gingerflight? Oh, right. Gingerstripe. That other cat Tansyheart was related to him too right? A pang of sympathy rang through the small she-cat. They had to be going through a hard time right now. Maybe that was why an air of masked tensity surrounded them both. She couldn't imagine what it was they were going through. Maybe they needed this escape as well?

It was then Silentpaw caught the passing scent of a mouse. Following it proved to be worthwhile as she came across the surprisingly plump little thing. This was very unusual considering the harsh leafbare. She decided not to question it and thanked Starclan for such a wonderful find as she stalked it for a few more heartbeats. The rodent's attention was momentarily snagged by something hidden in the snow, and Silentpaw took her chance to pounce. Before long she was padding steadily back to where she knew the two warriors would be returning and dropped her kill with the others.

Before long, Tansyheart scented a mouse scuffling on the ground. Instinctively, she dropped into a hunting crouch, stalking it cautiously before she pounced. This time, she caught her prey neatly in her jaws.
