| Softkit flinched at the commanding sound of his leader's voice, quickly running a paw over his head. He had been grooming himself all day trying to work down his nerves. And though the nerves were still in his belly, he also felt excitement. He took a few deep breaths to calm himself, then left the nursery, heading for the Tallrock. ______________________________________

| Fernfeather rushed over to the Tallrock at Ashstar's command as quickly as she could. How exciting! She was going to witness Softkit become an apprentice! She wished she could train her little brother, just as she was training their sister Squirrelpaw, but she knew that would be impractical. Oh, well. Maybe Quailfeather would become his mentor instead. | The newly-named Softpaw blinked in surprise, then was overrun with nausea. What if Silentstrike didn't like him? What if he couldn't live up to what his mentor wanted from him? Was he cut out for being an apprentice? His ears pinned to his head, Softpaw scanned the faces around him for the black-striped face he knew to belong to his new mentor Silentstrike. ______________________________________
